Blu-ray. Wireless. Media. Server.
Complete home theater happiness in one simple step: the BD590 from LG. Sure, as a Blu-ray Disc player, the BD590 brings Full HD 1080p video and studio-quality surround sound to your living room. But thanks to its built-in ethernet port and Wi-Fi capabilities, and an integrated 250GB hard drive, this single-disc Blu-ray player also equips you to discover vast entertainment possibilities on the world wide web. Whether you choose to use the RJ-45 ethernet port or the 802.11 wireless connection to hook up to your home's existing internet service, the BD590's NetCast Entertainment Access suite serves up instant access to movies and music from a heavy-hitting list of online providers. Stream movies from Netflix (using your pre-existing subscription). Chill out with your own personalized radio station from Pandora Internet Radio. Catch the latest DIY craze on YouTube. Check the weather at AccuWeather.com. Heck, you can discover even more HD movies at Vudu.com. Speaking of Vudu.com . . . once you've downloaded the HD main feature for this Saturday's movie night, you can keep it around for a second matinee showing on Sunday afternoon, or any other afternoon, thanks to the BD590's built-in 250GB hard drive. In fact, you can store up to 35 HD movies at one time. Or, you could stock up 260 standard-definition movies or up to 88,000 songs, or any combination of HD movies, SD flicks, and audio tracks. One step to a Blu-ray home theater experience that's beyond Blu-ray . . . the BD590.
Oh, yeah, there's more
We've got just two words for ya: BD. Live. Okay, so it's more like two letters and a word, but one way or another it spells an expanded, interactive Blu-ray Disc viewing experience. When you combine internet access, your favorite Blu-ray movie, and a USB storage device, the BD590's BD-Live functionality gives you the ability to delve into a wide array of bonus materials and interactivity features. Using BD-Live you could: watch deleted scenes, hear director commentary, or enjoy special movie shorts; participate in online gaming; or, you can even chat with other BD-Live users via online voice and video messaging. But guess what? Yep, there's more.
Still not finished
Boy, thanks to a simple ethernet port and wireless capability, it's incredible just how much you can expand your home entertainment experience with the BD590. As a final note, DLNA compatibility makes it possible for you to access any photos, music, and video stored on your home's computer network for playback on your home theater system. Whether it's online audio and video streaming, interactive extras for your favorite Blu-ray movie, or your personal photos and video, the BD590 delivers.
Blu serves up the full home theater experience
Full, high definition audio and video . . . all thanks to a teeny blue-violet laser. That's the revolution offered by Blu-ray Disc. While DVD technology uses a wide red laser to encode audio and video on DVD discs, Blu-ray Disc technology uses a much narrower blue-violet laser, making it possible to fit a significantly larger amount of data on a disc of the same size. How much more data? Try five times more data! So, while DVDs store standard definition 480i video and 5.1-channel compressed surround sound, Blu-ray Disc serves up full 1920 x 1080p high definition video as well as 7.1-channel, studio-master-quality audio. And that's not all. There's still space left over on Blu-ray discs for a wide range of bonus features, including extra scenes, director commentary, interactive features, and picture-in-picture BonusView viewing. Discover the Blu-ray Disc experience with the BD590 Blu-ray player from LG.
What the director intended for you to hear
While DVD technology marked a huge advancement over VHS, sacrifices still had to be made in transferring your favorite movies from the silver screen to your home theater. And perhaps the largest sacrifice concerned the audio portion of the home cinema experience. Audio data occupies much more space than does video, so in order to fit a movie's soundtrack on a DVD, the audio had to be compressed, or altered from its studio-original quality into a more compact form. Naturally, realism-enhancing detail was lost. Thanks to the dramatically improved storage capacity of Blu-ray disc, however, full 7.1-channel studio-quality surround sound can be placed on a single Blu-ray disc along with the video. Delivering this HD audio experience to the rest of your A/V system, the BD590 from LG sports Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio decoding, the latest processing technologies from Dolby and dts. Further, 7.1-channel audio output delivers this full surround sound experience with superior fidelity. Hear movie audio as the director intended for you to hear it.
Hardly the end for DVD
Fear not: investing in the LG BD590 does not mean "lights out" for your DVD collection. Quite to the contrary. Advanced video-processing technologies allow the BD590 to upscale standard definition DVD video to near-HD, 1080p-equivalent levels via HDMI, optimizing your DVD collection for viewing on your HDTV.
A little multimedia functionality
There's no doubt about it — your HDTV would make a great venue for sharing all your latest digital photos. If only there were a way to get your photos from the computer to the HDTV . . . Enter the BD590 from LG, featuring a built-in USB 2.0 Media Host. Load your favorite shots onto a USB thumb drive, connect the thumb drive to the BD590 via the USB port, and voilà, you and your friends are reliving your adventures on your widescreen HDTV. You can also access music and video stored on a USB device. Further, with support for a vast array of audio and video formats, the BD590 lets you play everything from CD and MP3 audio to DivX-formatted online video and JPEG photos.
Included with purchase
The following items are included with the purchase of the BD590 from LG: BD590 Blu-ray Disc player, 1 RCA-type A/V cable, 1 Nero MediaHome Bundle Disc, 1 universal remote control, and 2 AAA-size batteries for remote.

The DVD player works fine. It played some burned DVDs which have given me trouble on other players.
I have listened to Pandora. The viewer does not offer as many features as you get on a computer or I pod. No biographies of artists. No explanation of why a particular song was picked.
I havent used the other features yet
My only concern is that it took close to an hour to download and install a software upgrade. I do not know how often this will be needed.

I love this LG DVD Player BD590 so much. Being bedridden I spend a lot of time watching movies or browsing online. I subscribed to Netflix several years ago since cable fees are so high for movie channels and have always had to watch the movies on my laptop. The problem was when anyone wanted to watch one with me. The laptop screen is hardly -shareable- even though we suffered through. When the first wifi and netflix compatible came out I was thrilled! I stupidly purchased a different unit prior to this one, big mistake, and found it impossible to set up and it never even detected the signal just a few feet away from the router. I promptly returned that device since the frustration is absolutely not acceptable. My family and I travel a lot in the motor home and the signal settings change frequently so ease of setting up the device is very important and I refuse to go through the frustration time and again. Within one hour of my player being delivered, I was enjoying movies and sharing files from my computer on the big screen. It actually took longer to program my universal remote to manage the devices because -I- am not electronics compatible! I have not encountered a single problem with getting the wifi signal anywhere we are or the quality of the playback and I live in an extremely rural area, -where the comforts of home have nothing to do with a shopping mall, doctors offices or grocery stores but rather just finding indoor plumbing,- surrounded by a national forest where over the air broadcasting signals are virtually nil. I have not found a single reason to give a rating less than perfect! I would absolutely recommend this player to anyone in the market. It has made sharing a movie with my kids or husband so much more pleasurable than the group of us having to huddle over the laptop screen to watch! It is an extra bonus for how sleek the unit looks too! My best advice on purchasing this unit, -- Dont settle for less! I wish all devices were this easy to use and of such good quality. I truly enjoy having my cake and being able to eat it too!

LGs BD590 delivers more value than their competition. This player comes fully enabled to access your home WiFi network without purchasing an adapter dongle. LG ups the ante by including software to set up computer files access off your home computer and a 250 Gb hard disk drive you can archive your CD library to with numeous sampling schemes. The library also includes Gracenotes access which downloads the CDs song, ablum title and cover internet access required. This unit also sorts by artist, genere, album title etc. You can also set up folders for family members to dowload their music to keeping family member albums separate from each other for archiving purposes. The hard disk drive also facilitates movie streaming service for those that purchase movies from that kind of service.
I would only suggest not playing CDs while archiving. The download goes faster and it seems to pick up some cross tracks when ripping to the HD for some reason. Other that that little quirk, I couldnt be happier. I own two of them now.

I used the Blue Ray Player out of the box and it worked perfectly. I Play a Blue Ray Disk, used the hard drive to show some pictures and connected to the Wireless without a problem. I need more time playing with it to use all the functions. I have no problem recommending this product to someone else.
