Purchased from Vanns, November 2007. Just a few quick comments for the SONY BDP-S500. Right from the start I would like to give the opinion that this player is NOT worth the price Sony is asking, but it is an excellent player none the less. I purchased this unit to go along with my Sony 50 sxrd TV. Like many others, I am amazed with the incredible Blu-Ray picture and display. It also does very well with standard DVDs. I have watched several of my older DVDs in a whole new light! The gripe that I have is simply the price. Other than some additional audio decoding that the S500 does, many other players look just as good for much less. I have seen this side by side with a Playstation3 and can not tell the difference. Nor does its picture look better than the S300.
