Blu-ray meets the internet
Samsung's new BD-P1600 serves up way more than the full HD 1080p video and 7.1-channel surround sound for which Blu-ray Disc is known. The combination of Wi-Fi readiness (with separate Wi-Fi dongle) and an ethernet port make it possible to connect the BD-P3100 to your home internet network. From there, the possibilities are astounding. Thanks to Netflix and Pandora readiness, you can stream internet movies and music and send them straight to your HDTV (a Netflix membership is required for some services). Further, BD Profile 2.0 capability (also known as BD Live) gives you the ability to discover on-line extras for many of your favorite Blu-ray movies.
It's all about the Blu
If you haven't heard of Blu-ray Disc before, here's a quick crash course. DVD technology uses a wide red laser to record movies onto the disc. Blu-ray Disc, on the other hand, uses a narrower blue-violet laser to do its encoding. Consequently, a dramatically larger amount of information can be recorded in the same space. In fact, a Blu-ray disc can store over five times the information of a DVD. This makes it possible for both full high definition 1920 x 1080p video and HD 7.1-channel audio to be stored on a single disc. And that's just the beginning. There's also plenty of room left over for special features and behind-the-scenes extras. Samsung's BD-P1600 not only supports a variety of Blu-ray formats, but also gives you the ability to play back DVDs and CDs, as well as audio and images recorded using formats such as MP3, and JPEG.
Surround sound's full potential
While Samsung's BD-P1600 features built-in decoding technology for a variety of surround sound formats, two top the list: Dolby Digital TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio. These advanced technologies allow for decoding of the full HD 7.1-channel surround sound found on many Blu-ray Disc titles. Full 7.1-channel surround sound adds two side surround channels to standard 5.1-channel configurations, creating and even more realistic, enveloping audio experience.

Two little words spell out a big sigh of relief for your DVD collection. With all this talk of Blu-ray Disc's full HD 1080p video and 7.1-channels of uncompressed surround sound audio, your DVDs were preparing themselves for the landfill. Keepin' connected
While the BD-P1600's Wi-Fi and ethernet connectivity options are great for accessing online content, they aren't the only important connections. No HD device is complete without an HDMI connection. As the most advanced digital interface, HDMI is capable of transmitting HD video and audio via a single cable. Ensuring that all 1920 x 1080 pixels of your Blu-ray Disc movie reach your HDTV, Samsung has outfitted the BD-P1600 with an HDMI output. This Samsung blu-ray dvd player we had purchased from Vanns in combination with a Samsung HDTV is incredible! We had never seen such detail, clarity and picture quality from a dvd player ever. You would have to see it to believe it and, when we hooked up the digital audio cable up to our surround sound receiver...WOW! the sound just blew us away. I bought this unit because it was cheaper than the bdp3600.. It does everything it did at a reasonable price. Picture quality is excellent at 1080p & at 24 frames per second. It match my tvs specs and it looks awesome. Netflix streaming is great feature that comes with this unit. Depending on your internet connection speed quality is good enough for me at 1 Mbps. You have to have a existing account with Netflix. All my old DVDs look great on this unit as it is upscaled to 1080p. I would recommend the Samsung bdp1600 to any thrifty shopper.

This is my first blu ray player so Im not well versed in all the advanced features. I bought this one because of the pandora netflix integration. So far it works great. I love having pandora on my TV and synced through my receiver without a computer. Setup was instant. I never even opened the manual.

This player is quiet, loading is quick, and the Netflix streamed movies seem more crisp than those I stream on my xbox 360. This DVD player was part of the the package when I purchased a Samsung 46 inch LED-LCD TV. I really did not expect the Netflix streaming to work so well with my 2.1 mbps DSL. It works great! Ocasionally it has to readjust the resolution based on connectivity but most of the time I get HD quality. And of course, it plays DVDs just fine. I really dont know why anyone would need a more expensive unit.

This D.V.D Player works great ! Old D.V.D look good and threw the menu brings up more fetures that I ever knew I had ! The Blue-Ray side of it is far better than that !
The picture is better than the best H.D sorce
that my cabel Co.can provide ! And what you can do with the menu with a blue ray disk

This Bluray player is a great product for the money. Nice picture on bluray discs and most DVDs, though some ordinary DVDs look terrible for reasons Im not quite sure of. Animated films look outstanding however.
The extra features like Netflix and Pandora make it extremely worth it, and were ultimately the features that made me go with this model. The Netflix instant streaming feature is revolutionary, cant say enough about the quality and convenience of it.
Overall nice player, good design, easy hook-upinstructions, great features. Really not blown away by the picture quality, as Ive seen what my television can do without the player when watching ordinary HD channels, and just doesnt seem to match that quality when viewing bluray discs, and especially ordinary DVDs. Good product for the money though.

My husband did hours of research before choosing the Samsung BDP-1600 for our game room. We were looking for an economical Blu-ray player with a good name and fun features.
This projector definitely fits the bill. The picture is sharp, even on our 8-foot projector screen. Out of the box it was easy to hook up to our receiver. We love that we can play Blu-ray and regular DVDs on the same machine. We havent hooked up the Netflix feature yet, but were planning to.
The one complaint we have is the first time we tried to play a Blu-ray disk it worked perfectly. A few hours later, with a room full of company all eager to watch our new Blu-ray, the disk wouldnt load. We waited about 20 minutes as the machine told us it was thinking, please wait, before we gave up and just watched a DVD instead. The next day the Blu-ray was working fine. Weve never had the same problem again, but it was a weird glitch.
Overall, were very satisfied with the features, performance and price point for this machine.

This is a great little Blu Ray! Plays everything on my TV crystal clear and with the optional wireless dongle can stream youtube, pandora, netflix and blockbuster. Got this one off the clearance site for a great price- Check it out!
Wish it had better on screen instructions for setting up the wireless accounts to the internet streaming, but the manual is OK on the subject

I purchased these Blu-Ray players for my parents and one for my in-laws. Nice picture, easy set up, great features.
The only thing missing is wireless connectivity which you can buy, but the adapter is expensive.

Its boots fast, loads and unloads fast and has the features that I was looking for like Netflix, You-tube, etc.. It works great with my Samsung plasma TV using the Anynet connectivity. The Samsung is much better than my Magnavox blu-ray player and Vanns delivered it in good shape.

I plugged this unit into my Samsung 52 LCD set and first played back a 480p DVD. I was stunned at the quality of the image. It seems the units upconversion unit is great along with the Samsung TV display of standard DVDs. I inserted a Blu-Ray disc and the quality was there as expected.
The Players remote is quite handy as it easily controls not only the Blu-Ray player, of course, but the controls also seamlessly controls the Samsung TV in all its function. This is quite handy for me.
The fold-down faceplate flap dropping to insert and eject discs is a bit awkward, but manageable.
Its a good unit overall and a great match for a Samsung TV.

Nothing is ever perfect, otherwise they would not continue to make new products. The Samsung does what it says and allows me to watch movies online and have an interactive radio station via pandora. My wife and I have really enjoyed it.
Prior to buying it we did lots of research and saw multiple horror stories, but everything has worked wonderfully. Our only problem has been the connection gets lost sometimes, which is probably the cables fault and not the players. I would suggest people that have the money and watch alot of movies buy the product.

This was a Christmas gift for my dad and he loves it. It was recommended by a co-worker who loves his too! It connects to the internet and you can download movies to watch directly on it. It also has wireless so you dont have run wires through the house too.

This was my first Blu Ray and I was not sure what to expect. It hardly took me 15 minutes to hook my Blu ray to my TV and Home Theatre. The remote and then button on the player are very sensitive. Picture quality is great and so is the sound. Would recommend this to everyone. Am yet to try out the online features.

I am very pleased with this player. After doing some research I went for Samsung, mostly due to the great picture quality at an exceptional price. Very little setup was required. I simply plugged in an ethernet cord from my modem and I was off using Pandora and Netflix. The picture is brilliant and the sound quality far exceeds my expectations. The only drawback of the player I have seen is that the face of the player has to be lowered to access the controls. While some people seem to be bothered by this I like the sleek look of the front of the player. The remote is also able to open and close the faceplate of the player, which makes it look even more sleek and gadgety.

When I was searching for flatscreens I researched blue ray players as well. My wife and I were giving up the dish and commercials. I placed the order for the TV and Vanns had an offer that bundled the blue ray with the tv! What a deal!
The items arrived quickly. After some cabinet retrofitting I had everything hooked up. The blue ray discovered my network settings. I punched in the registration code for netflix and boom- we are steaming netflix. I also had an existing pandora account so the music is streaming also.
Thsi unit has been great. The price was right. The picture is excellent. Lots of great features!

I recently purchased the Sony BDP-1600 Blu-ray player and am very happy with my purchase. It was simple to install, and I love the netflix feature. I had to purchase the wireless dongle separately, but it was worth it. The Nexflix movies download in under 1 min, and play seamlessly. I was also able to get rid of my Starz subscription because Netflix offers all the Starz movies on their instant view menu. I would definitely recommend this blu-ray player.

This was purchased as my first blu-ray player along with a panasonic plasma tv. Overall, im pretty psyched with the setup - great sound through my outlaw receiver via optical digital and great picture through hdmi. Not sure how the quality of those two compares to what you might find in other players. The internet options are great, but still wish there were more. Or just a browser. The cons as i see them are that, while it looks great with no controls on the front, i dont really care for the flip down access to the disc tray and controls. Just not needed. Also, the player is super noisy moving from one track to the next. Sometimes you can even hear the whirring of the player over the sound of the movie going. All that aside, even after moving from montana to california, vanns is still the place to buy my electronics.

Another quality product from Samsung. This is second one I own and very pleased. Works with Samsung TV using just the Blu-Ray controller. Controls on outside of DVD player are very difficult to find or use, but remote control unit is easy to use. Particularly like the NetFlix and Pandora features using CAT 5 cable. Gradually moving to all Samsung products.

Ive been really pleased with this unit. The picture quality is fantastic, and sound quality 5.1 seems to be great as well.
I bought the wireless adapter and the Netflix player often stops in the middle of watching something, or runs at very poor video quality. This may be a netflix issue for all I know.
The fold down face of the unit is a little ugly, but Im more concerned with the video and audio quality - which are both great.
The interface is fine - nothing special, but it doesnt get in the way either.

I feel completely satisfied with my purchase, it delivers a great video image anf sound quality. On the downside I have to say that sometimes it gets a bit slow reading the disc. But overall the bluray experience is incredible, it has made me realize that I never wanna go to dvds. Well its just technology!

Man this player rocks! I have a 1 year old Sharp Aquos BD player and i want to literally throw it in the trash now. This player loads piraticaly as fast as a dvd player. netflix and blockbuster both work great too. Only tip, if you are planning on having the internet connection be wireless, dont get this model. The wireless adapter is like $80.For that price, you can get the next model up which has wireless built in. Other than that, flawless. Highly recommended.

I purchased this samsung BD1600 a few weeks ago and was very happy with it until I had a technical issue with it that was not fixable. I called up Vanns and they were more than happy to have me exchange it for a new one, they paid for the return and sent the new one immediately. Now that I have had the BD1600 up and running for a couple weeks now, I have had no problems at all, no disks skipping either.
Bottom line if your going to buy any type of electronic device, I would highly recommend Vanns.com for their excellent low prices, helpful tech support, and easy returns.

This blu-ray player is probably one of my best purchases along with my 46 Samsung LED TV. The combination is just beyond perfect. The picture quality cant get any better than this. Thanks to Wise Link, which works perfectly well by the way, really does everything for you. Netflix loads quite fast and the video quality is definitely acceptable for a videophile. I would recommend this product to anyone who want to upgrade to HD world without spending the big $$.

Initially I was skeptical however the ability to access YouTube and the like is a great feature. Blue Ray movies are scary clear and there is difference in DVDs when upconverted. On the downside we have had to unplug the player twice as it locks up. Otherwise we have been very happy with the 1600.

This player is easy to set up and use. I have not encountered any play problems with my blue ray disks or standard disks. The play back is great. I must admit that loading of disks is a little slow, however I have the same problem with my Sony Blu-Ray player. I think this is commom with Blu-Ray players in general. I would recommend this player to anyone looking for a blu ray player!

The unit has great features though if you want to use the wireless Netflicks et al features youll have to shell out another $80 for the USB adapter. Quality at Samsung for this unit seems a bit lacking or I have snake bit luck. The first unit I had was returned to the store after failing and the unit they replaced it with had a bad laser right out of the box. The third unit is so far so good one week.
