Wait, I thought this was a digital camera
Hey, what's going on here? This Panasonic Lumix camera is listed under "Digital Cameras", but it's capable of recording high definition video? This must be some kind of mistake . . . believe it. The much-anticipated follow-up to the DMC-FX28 is here: the DMC-FZ35. And yes, this Lumix digital camera does more than snap photos: it gives you the ability to record high definition 1280 x 720 resolution video in AVCHD Lite format. While the HD resolution captures every detail, the AVCHD Lite formatting makes it possible to achieve higher image quality while storing less data than with conventional Motion JPEG formatting. Further, an integrated mini HDMI output offers you an advanced and speedy interface for hooking the DMC-FZ35 to your HDTV for a big-screen debut of your latest footage. The DMC-FZ35's HD Movie mode can even be used in conjunction with the zoom lens to zoom in and out while filming.
And now for the "digital camera" part
Remember, the Panasonic DMC-FZ35 is a digital camera that just happens to record HD video. Naturally, therefore, it's equipped for high-performance point-and-shoot photography. For starters, a 1/2.33" CCD sensor with a whopping 12.1-megapixel resolution captures an incredible level of detail, and offers enough resolution to maintain detail even when enlarging prints over 8" x 10". Further, while a 27mm-468mm Leica DC Vario-Elmar zoom lens serves up both wide-angle and telephoto capability, a wide 2.7" rear LCD viewscreen offers a clear view for composing, reviewing, and sharing your shots. Additionally, a High-Speed Burst mode lets you fire off up to 5 shots at 2.3 frames/sec, ensuring that you catch the perfect action shot.
Shooting modes galore!
Shooting modes define digital point-and-shoot cameras. By automatically adjusting camera settings under a variety of shooting conditions, shooting modes let you stay in the moment. While a plethora of shooting modes comprises the DMC-FZ35's repertoire, Intelligent Auto Mode stands out from the rest. This technology combines multiple detection and correction functions to deliver clear, beautiful images, every time. First, Auto Focus Tracking locks onto and maintains focus on moving subjects for optimized action shots. Second, Face Detection and Face Recognition technologies help to produce stunning portraits. Third, an Intelligent Scene Selector automatically configures camera settings for a variety of common shooting conditions. All this, in addition to a wide range of Scene and Advanced Scene modes.
Modes for your creative side
Whether you're shooting stills or recording HD video footage, the Lumix DMC-FZ35 offers shooting modes that let you indulge your creative side. First, Creative Movie mode lets you adjust aperture and shutter speed as you like, giving you a wider range of expressive possibilities to explore while filming. Second, with My Color mode you can freely adjust color, brightness, and saturation parameters per your expressive intent.
Double the steady
Sure, sometimes you want a little blurring in your photo for creative effect. But most of the time, a blurry photo is a dud. Dramatically curbing the blurring effect caused by shaky hands or an unstable shooting platform, Panasonic's DMC-FZ35 amps up its image stabilization technology with POWER Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Offering twice the stabilization power of MEGA OIS technology, POWER OIS uses an integrated gyrosensor to detect any movement during a shot, automatically sending a signal to the camera's microcomputer. After calculating the necessary compensation, the microcomputer shifts the optical image stabilizer to guide the incoming light from the subject directly and cleanly to the CCD image sensor. The resulting photos are sharp, clear, and blur free.
Lithium-ion battery performance
Because the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 digital camera is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, it brings you more than just incredible power. First, because lithium has the third lightest atomic mass of any element, lithium-ion batteries are some of the lightest batteries available. Second, Lithium-ion batteries have a lower loss-of-charge rate overall in comparison with other battery types and they do not suffer from 'memory loss' or a decline in total energy capacity. The lithium-ion battery featured on your DMC-FZ35 brings you light-weight, long-lasting, and reliable power for your digital photography needs. In fact, this Lumix digital camera can shoot up to 470 shots on a single charge.
Included with purchase
The following are included with the purchase of the Panasonic DMC-FZ35: battery charger, battery back, AV cable, USB cable, shoulder strap, CD-ROM, lens hood, lens-hood adapter.

Spend some time reading the manual [unfortunately, its on disk, not printed] and you can start taking advantage of the more advanced features. It comes with everything you need except a SDHC card. Battery life seems good, but I like to keep a charged spare in my camera bag just in case. You dont need to install any software to access the pics from your PC. Love it!

This is an awesome camera and a big step up from the series of point-and-shoots Ive used over the years. Not as amazing as a DSLR at capturing low-light images but also not as complicated to equip or shoot -- and plenty good enough. I had briefly owned a Nikon L110, which is comparable in many respects featurewise, but this Lumix is three times the camera for about $30 more. With this as a higher-quality solution in conjunction with a compact point-and-shoot I feel like Ive got all the cameras Ill need and plenty of room to grow with this. Recommended accessories eyeFI card, spare battery, tripod, possibly AC adapter.

I bought this camera for shooting close up flower and plant pictures. I do plant presentations in power point and have found that this camera will suit most of my needs. Operation details took me a while, but I am figuring them out slowly. I havent adjusted to all of the light setting required but will do so eventually. It takes good pictures and I find it better than my two other Kodak cameras , a Z712 and a Z1015 which I bought for the same purpose.
I have only used it for about 2 weeks but expect to improve and enjoy this camera. Battery life is good and charging the battery requires removing it and charging it outside of the camera, which I dont like.
For amateurs who want good results, I recommend it. I have not tried the video part and did not buy it for that purpose. Be careful when buying the size of SD or SDHC memory card as they require only certain sizes. for this camera.

The camera has many features that are usually only found on high end cameras, a great zoom and a Leica lens, it also records in HD video. Besides the LCD screen, it also has an optical view finder which helps me get the right picture in bright light situations where the LCD might be hard for me to see. It has a stabilization mode which my wife really likes and also has a burst mode so you wont miss the shot you really want. The documentation is on a CD, no big deal, but a manual would be nice, are you listening Panasonic! I have been using Panasonic cameras for quite a while now. DSLR cameras are just too big for me to lug around.
The features on Pansonic cameras are very intuitive. And the FZ35 is no exception. I have tried many cameras over the years. But always come back to Panasonic. I dont think you can find more for your buck.
What more could you ask for in this class of camera. Leica lens with 27mm wideangle and 486mm telephoto all in one lens!!
Panasonics image stabalization is unparelleled in this class of camera. It makes Macro, Wildlife, and indoor and low light shots seem easy even for beginners.
My purchase through Vanns was also a good experience. Shipping was very fast. I look forward to ordering from Vanns for more of my electronics needs.

With little reading, I was able to yank this pleasantly small and light gem out of the box and use as a point and shoot with clear sharp results. While the printed directions are sketchy, a disc with complete details is included 200 page PDF. Strongly recommend dowload for getting the most out of this highly refined camera. For example, the FZ35 records HD movies with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. It uses the AVCHD Lite format to achieve superior image quality while storing less data than standard JPEG. Plus, the FZ35 is equipped with an HDMI output terminal for direct transmission of digital image and sound signals. Easy slideshow enjoyment. The zoom, and other extraodinary features--especially the precision Leica lense--make this Panasonic a shocking value for the price. Make no mistake, the FZ35K is everything I expected and much more. I would unequivocally recommend this camera to a friend.

This is an amazing camera!
It is lightweight, dependable, versatile, user-friendly and does it all!
I value the high quality lens. I value its having a viewfinder. I value being able to program it the way I want and then using it like an automatic and then occasionally using it like an old SLR, easily switching to manual settings when desired. At the same time, I feel very comfortable recommending it to someone who just wants to point and shoot and has no interest in ISOs or shutter speeds.
In fact, two of our recent orders for this very camera were for friends who asked our advice and we offered to order their cameras through Vanns. Two other orders were for our grown up children. The most recent order was to replace my 4 year old Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 which I literally wore out with very heavy use. I wanted to replace it with the closest thing I could get to that camera which I had loved!
The price of this new Panasonic Lumix FZ 35 was $50 was less than I paid for the FZ8 several years ago!
Vanns service is superb.

Having just received the Lumix DMC-FZ35, I havent had a lot of time to play with it. I decided to upgrade from the 6MP Lumix FZ7 I bought 3 years ago and I couldnt pass up the new low price. Amazingly, I received the camera only 3 days after ordering it, and this was just before Christmas. The FZ35 is a bit larger than the FZ7 but still pretty light. It has a solid feel to it and is a very good looking camera. After switching it on, it is ready to take a photo almost immediately. The menu selections are daunting at first and the small instruction guide is only slightly helpful. However, a CD with the full PDF manual 218 pages is enclosed. I went to Office Depot and had them print it up on nice paper and bind it with front and rear covers for about $20. I highly recommend doing this because otherwise youll have to read it on your computer or other device and this is more handy. Be sure to spend an evening reading it all the way through to take full advantage of all features. I bought this camera mostly for its advertised 18X zoom and ability to shoot up to 10 frames a second still shots, although at lower resolution. I did have a chance to do this with some birds at my feeder and it does a good job. I believe the shots are 2.5 MP. Havent had a chance to use the HD movie feature yet. Also havent had a chance to compare photo quality with my previous camera but other reviewers give it high marks. Be sure to buy at least a class 6 SDHC card. I bought an 8MP card and this should be all I need. An older SD card will work for still photos but Im not sure the HD movies will record well with it. Overall, Im pleased with my purchase and recommend the camera to anyone.

I had an Olympus digital D-560 zoom which took very good pictures but had a delay when a shot was taken. This sometimes made me miss a good shot. The Panasonic is pretty easy to set up and learn. It took me a couple of days to understand most of what I needed to use a lot of its features and the IA feature gives pretty good pictures. I got some great pictures of my grandkids at Christmas along with there new kitten .I am very satisfied so far with the camera and the price was really good.

This is the fourth Panasonic Lumix camera Ive bought from Vanns. In fact, I sold the DMC-FZ18S - within 3 hours of posting it - to buy the FZ35K! Ive shot 2 sporting events where my companions had DSLRs - and our photos were comparable - if not almost identical. I like that the HD video has zoom capability --earlier versions, like the FZ18 could not zoom while filming. I like to be able to set the shutter speed - even thought the Intelligent Auto -IA- mode is adequate for most pictures. I like being able to manually increase the ISO in order to set faster shutter speeds at a night-time football game. I find the image stabilization at high zooms to be excellent. The camera is excellent for taking family portraits or candid shots. And - in my opinion, it is better than lugging around several lenses with a DSLR. With regard to Vanns customer service, I could not be more pleased - they refunded the difference when the price decreased 10 days after I ordered the camera.

I just gave this to my wife for Christmas, and have been very impressed with the what this camera has to offer. We had an Olympus before, and the Panasonic blows it away. Easier to use, great picture quality, enough manual adjustments to allow us to customize the shot, and a great zoom. Plus, I know with the drop and spill coverage from Square Trade, Im covered no matter what happens we have kids. Looking forward to more time with this camera.

I have owned a Lumix camera for more than five years. Unfortunately the CCD in my old camera developed a dead spot that resulted in a dark shadow in all my photos so I had to update my equipment. I researched quite a few cameras both on Consumer Reports and other tech sites. I looked at simple point-and-shoot cameras all the way to SLR or SLR-like cameras priced at more than $1,500. Unless you are a professional earning your living from your camera, I do not believe it is necessary to spend $1,500 to get excellent, professional or close to level photographs and video. The Lumix has simple controls, easy to follow menus and takes excellent photos. You should note that this is an F series Lumix. For some reason the G series now comes with a substantially reduced zoom capability. My old Lumix had a 12 X zoom. The G series have 3X. This model has an 18X zoom. Unless you are making enlargements more than 8x10 or so I dont think you will notice any significant drop in quality. The body of this camera is a bit larger than its predecessor but it is still a good compact model. This is not the camera you want if you need something for your pocket or purse but other than that you probably will be very happy if you are an all-around casual or semi-serious photographer that likes decent quality at a very affordable price.

This is yet another in the Panasonic Lumix series that I have owned since 2003. Again it is a winner. It takes amazing photographs on the automatic settings - and for those who want more advanced features this camera has it all! My favorite new feature is the ability to focus in low light situations. It is not an SLR but the view finder feature has the same effect in terms of knowing exactly what will show in your finished photo. I generally use the view finder feature to save on battery and especially in bright situations where the LCD screen is unusable. I love this camera! The battery lasts for a very long time especially when you use the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen.

I purchased this camera prior to taking a trip to Alaska. It was very well reviewed and had both a viewfinder and the option to use a polarizing filter. However, after my order Costco was selling a very similar camera made by Olympus with a 30 X optical zoom for much less money. The zoom seemed a good trade off for the view finder and polarizing filter given that the Panasonic only had an 18 X zoom and the price was much cheaper for the Olympus SP 8000 UZ.

Wow this is an awesome little camera! other then not having a hot shoe for my additional lights, it performs better then my d20 in my opinion! i shot numerous low light shots with the full zoom and without a tripod, i was impressed on the new stabilization engine this thing has,...... it capture perfect shot after perfect shot!!!!! for the price the lense alone is worth the money!!!!! I was worried that i was not going to receive this camera on time for my sons 2nd grade year end presentation awards, and up coming vacation, due to a mix up with delievery from vans, but they were able to fix the problem in a timely manner!!!!! great customer service!!! thank you!!! capture awesome panoramic shot of my sons class!!!
After many months of research for the perfect camera this thing sure payed off, i looked at several canons, Nikons, Olympus, Pentax, Minoltas, and Ended up with My Panasonic!!!!

I am very pleased with both the camera I also got a skylight, ND4 and polarizing filter for the camera and Vanns. The service I received from Vanns has been exceptional with them being very patient and willing to answer any questions and shipped the product quickly and without issue.

Video quality is outstanding, zoom and focus are solid and the camera copes with various lighting conditions very well. I like the feel and balance, decent battery life, the solid state memory for video makes it easy to transfer to computer. USB works fine to transferring still images, shoots RAW files, which added$100 to competitors product. HDMI to TV is nice to review video. Controls and menus are easy to navigate. In order to write this review I have to go back a few years so I can explain a few things. I never get involved in writing these, but this time I almost feel obligated. Thats how great my new Panasonic DMC-FZ35 is !! I really love it !! About 4 years ago, after checking, comparing, researching, asking, and shopping for a digital camera for over 3 years I finally decided on a Kodak Easyshare DX 7630 with an Easy Share Printer dock plus. Boy, did I make a mistake.
I guess I didnt research it enough. The printer dock now holds our door open in the summer. The camera worked great until October 09. Then the little thing that holds the battery down broke. I thought, no problem, Ill call Kodak, get the part, pop it in, and Im back in business. Right?? WRONG !!! My camera is OLD, they dont support it anymore !! No parts, No service, No tech support. They did give me a #, which I called. They want $125.00 just to look at it so I started looking again.I found Panasonic was a top rated camera with great image stabilization, which is very important to me because I have Parkinsons and it really helps me a lot.
Its also great as a point and shoot, just set it on Intelligent Auto, and its easy for my wife to use, I take a lot of close-ups, and I use Manual Exposure. It has a setting for almost everything. We have 2 grandchildren and we dont want to miss a shot, whether its a Portrait, or in Sports, at Fireworks, or a Custom, where you can set up that special shot.
After searching countless stores and, literally hundreds of web sites, I chose Vanns. Why? Because when it came to buying the item, the price didnt change, there was no gimmick, no add-ons, no run around, just the lowest price on the web. As advertised. Less than a week later I knew I had picked the right one. Before I even had the camera out of the box, they were calling me to ask me if I was happy with the camera. I knew then no matter how I felt about the camera, Vanns was going to get more of my business.
Thank You, Dan
P.S.
I honestly dont think Vanns or Panasonic will EVER tell me they no longer support my camera.

My wife and I took it on a recent cruise to the Caribbean then we returned to the blizzard of 2010 in the Washington DC area. We took hundreds of pictures on the cruise and of the snow storm. Almost all of them came out really great. My wife loves the 18x zoom for shooting wildlife. I purchased this as a replacement for my older Panasonic DMC FZ28. My only complaint with it was at times some images would blur or were fuzzy because the camera couldnt accommodate real fast motion. Besides it made a great hand me down which my wife loves. The new DMC FZ35 is the ultimate solution. For the most part they have corrected all the little idiosyncrasies. This is a simple point and shoot camera with tons of features you may or may not use. It is about 20 percent smaller than my older FZ28 which makes it even easier to travel with. Bottom line, if you want SLR performance with out the hassle of lens changing in a small package at a great price, plus Vanns trusted service, this is probably the camera your looking for. Dont forget to use a protective filter of some type.

This is the 4th FZ our family has owned and is an excellent value. The lense is sharp, the zoom is more than adequate, reliability is as good as it can get, and the resolution allows a fair amount of cropping and enlargement. Since we take the camera hiking and boating the small size and light weight are absolute necessities. If you are looking for almost all the bells-and-whistles of an SLR without the weight or hassle of changable lenses the FZ deserves consideration. The only serious drawback vs an SLR is noise at higher ISO settings, and if you use 800 or less it is unnoticeable in most conditions.

As a serious amateur, Ive been fortunate enough to own a number of point and shoots including Panasonic, Fuji, several Nikons, & a couple of Canons. All have had their strong points and Im not a brand loyalist by any means, but after a couple of weeks, I must say I absolutely love this camera.
My first impressions were ones of pleasant shock. The camera seemed smaller than in the pictures and if it seemed smaller, it seemed doubly more so in terms of weight. Compared to my SLR this thing is an absolute lightweight but very well built and certainly heavier than the smaller in your pocket point and shoots. A great balance...although I wouldnt want to drop it. Some strategically placed silicone on the housing would make this a bit more rugged without much if any impact on cost. Powerup is about as fast as you can bring the camera up to your face - amongst the best of the point and shoots. Controls are easy to use and I like the mini joystick for making on the fly adjustments in manual and scene modes. The menus are fairly well laid out although some items I had to resort to the manual to find their location for the first time.
The iA or Intelligent Auto function gave consistently above par picture quality, although I was always able to tweak it better myself this could have been as much preference as anything. The AVCHD and HD movies worked absolutely flawless with my Patriot 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card . NOTE Make sure you lowlevel format these SDHC cards a COUPLE of times BEFORE first use. I do wish that you could use the normal shutter release instead of the dedicated movie button on the back face when in movie mode. I kept forgetting and tried to stop the movies using the shutter button instead of the record button. Minor nuisance, but will be overcome as I get my brain wrapped around the change in button locations.
The battery worked well past 300 stills and about 35 clips, so I am very pleased with it with the LCD display being used for most of the shots. I purchase another spare batteryLenmar DLP006 Lithium-ion Digital CameraCamcorder Battery Equivelent to the Panasonic CGR-S006A Battery, also available here at Vanns, and it appears to be working about as well as the original Panasonic a great buy. The EVF or Electronic View Finder was very handy, although most of the overlaid information is very hard to distinguish in the small EVF. I CANT BELIEVE PANASONIC DIDNT INCLUDE A RUBBER BOOT FOR THE EVF! Please someone, anyone, make it as an accessory.
The EZ or Extra Zoom function is quite handy. Using this feature, you can shoot at lower resolutions and get more effective zooming power out of the camera...over 30x and it works very well. The LCD screen is clear and crisp, but its performance in high ambient light is about average. Thank goodness for the electronic view finder mentioned above.
Image stabilization is the absolute best amongst my camera collection and is especially noticeable in low light and full zoom. I was pleasantly surprised how well I could take indoor pictures at night with a simple tweak of the exposure. Far better than any of my other point and shoots, although nowhere near my SLR.
The standard 3picture burst mode was fairly standard and unimpressive, but the 10pics per second for speed priority and 6 pics per second in image priority burst mode worked well for catching difficult shots like geese landing on the water and children jumping out of swings, but I still wish the resolution and picture quality was better in these modes. Still, for a point and shoot, its ability to catch the fast action is at the top of its class.
The lens cap interferes with zoom, but the camera will kindly remind you that you have left it on with a 17,000 volt discharge...just kidding...it will tell you on the LCD screen.
LIKES Ease of use, picture quality, zoom and extra zoom, HD movie, lightweight, stop action. BEST Point and Shoot Ive ever owned ! ! !
DISLIKES all minor No eyepiece boot for EVF, lens cap interferes with zoom, tripod mount interferes with batterymemory door when in use. Only 10 sec. max on the built in timer.

Ok, for those shoppers that research, research, and research some more before making their purchase - STOP here. If you are looking for an ultra zoom camera, the FZ35K is a great buy.
I have used a pocket-sized Sony Cybershot for years, primarily out of convenience. Unfortunately, I could never get good close-ups or action shots at my kids events. I wasnt ready to take the DSLR plunge simply because of the bulky size and higher pricetag. So the ultra zoom provided a great compromise.
My search actually started with the predecessor, the FZ28. Panasonic improved upon an already solid camera by enhancing to HD video capability along with an HDMI output, adding stereo audio, improving the image stabilization, and packing more scene modes than I know what to do with. All this at the same price of the FZ28.
I wonder why Panasonic did not increase the FZ35s 18X Optical Zoom, but it is outstanding and comparable with the competition.
Like most weekend photographers who simply want to preserve a slice of their childrens precious moments without the expense and clumsiness of the DSLR, I wanted convenience, a good zoom and quality photos at a reasonable price. The Panasonic FZ35K delivers.

This is a great camera! Easy to use. I read trough the handbook a bit, but the menu is very user friendly!
The picture quality is amazing, along with the video recording quality. Even while zooming it was very clear!
So many options. I am so excited to have this camera. Great value!

Thanks to Vanns for the quick delivery of an awsome product! Though I have owned many good cameras over the years, Nikon, Cannon and yes, Kodak this Panasonic sets the standard for one of the most user friendly, affordable digital cameras on the market today. Ease of use for the novice and advanced features for the more seasoned are just the starting point. Picture quality is amazing.
The color and sharpness are amazing. I would never knock the competition. Every product has its good and not so good points. My opinion, youre getting more than your moneys worth with the Panasonic. I could go on and on but Im not here to write a novel. Do your research. Im sure youll agree.
Great job Vanns! Thank you.
