If you're using non-xD devices, you'll be happy to know that a number of adapters will be available, including a CompactFlash Adapter, SmartMedia USB Reader/Writer, and a PCMCIA/PC Card Adapter. Olympus xD-Picture Cards are also the only cards that support the Panorama function found on most Olympus digital cameras. An Auto-Connect USB port on this camera connects to nearly any USB computer. No software, no hassle. It's also compatible with both Windows XP and Mac OS X.
Improving Your Image
The D540 has technology that will help you get outstanding images. The Olympus TruePic TURBO Image Processor gives you smoother results from edge-to-edge and produces faster response time for quicker start-up and less shutter delay. The technology also smoothes the image to make it clearer, most apparent when lower pixel resolution images are captured by the camera. Seven scene program modes are easily selectable through the Virtual Dial to get expert results at the press of a button. Some of the modes are Portrait, Landscape, Self-Portrait, Night Scene, and QuickTime Movie Mode.
Balancing Act
When shooting in mixed lighting, iESP white balance detects the differences in color temperature between the various light sources and adjusts appropriately to capture more natural colors such as skin tones and shades of green. Pre-set white balance settings (Daylight, Overcast, Tungsten and Fluorescent settings) let you get a more precise white balance under various light sources.
Range of Resolutions
The 3.2 megapixel CCD on the D540 makes for some pretty incredible pictures. But there are situations where you'll want to capture smaller images, and that's where the numerous adjustable resolutions of this camera come in handy. You can capture JPEGs at different sizes, including 2048 x 1536, 1600 x 1200, and 640 x 480. The smaller images are great for emailing to friends and family, and the range gives you plenty of options for various needs. The QuickTime movie mode also has a couple of options. You can record at 15 fps in 320 x 240 HQ mode, or 15 fps in 160 x 120 SQ mode. So get the camera that gives you more, and be ready for any situation.
