This is my second digital camera in 5 years, the first being a Canon S-30. I was awaiting a light-weight digital with a longer lens, and this camera seems to have filled the bill. Easy and instinctive to use without too much reference to the instruction book. I especially like the very usable digital view finder for action shots and larger, easily viewed LCD screen on the back for review and occasional shooting. Despite the long lens, its still lighter than my pocket-sized S-30. I compared with the Canon and Olympus similar models and so far feel Ive made a good choice, especially for the $100 price difference. I would have preferred a little wider lens, perhaps 24 mm, over the extreme telephoto since the added digital zoom is incredibly sharp compared to the S-30 digital zoom.

Bought this camera to replace panasonic fz10, Better in every respect, more pixels,larger screen, better battery, and half the price. The fz10 produced great pictures, and this one is better. Cant say enough about stabilazion, you can take pictures with a 12 zoom, hand held even if your hand is not too steady. An excellent camera for the price,for the casual picture taker, and for the camera enthusiast too. Only caveat is the guide book takes some work to master.

Im just learning photography and how to use digital cameras. I wanted something that could be easy enough for a beginner yet has the capability in its features to suport me as I grew - I didnt want to have to buy another camera as I learned more. Simple Mode is just that and produces super picture quality. This camera has many preset functions for pictures in certain conditions night, cloudy, etc.which is perfect for the less-professional.
