The DENON AVR-1712 was exactly what I was looking for. After researching and considering comparable models by ONKYO, PIONEER, SONY and YAMAHA I realized that for the price point and performance it offered, it would more than suit my needs. Many people tend to over-buy when it comes to AV components. Its like buying an off-road SUV just to go down the street to buy groceries and never actually going Off-road with it. The same can be said about AV components. For the size of my livingroom, I chose and bought an appropriately sized receiver. This receiver with its 90 watts per channel has the power to fill my large livingroom with great sound while watching movies on blu-ray. I can hear distinct sounds from each discreet channel that I have not heard from my previous setup.
The diverse range of inputs including 6 HDMI are great for the mutiple components I have to connect and the setup wizard made getting started very quick and straightforward.
The clean arrangement of the front panel was definitely more attractive than some of the other AVRs I considered.
I have only been using mine for a couple of weeks and am taking my time to figure out all the features it has to offer but I am extremely pleased with this model and would highly recommend it for most average setups. I think it has more bang for the buck compared to the other AVRs in this range. It is a very good receiver for the price.

Received the AVR 1712 about a week ago and set it up immediately. Easy to do. The unit works very well, increasing an already good experience from FIOS and my LG tv even more. Users should keep in mind that the source of your audiovideo may need setting up as well as the receiver. I didnt realize that my set top box has audio and video quality adjustments which had to be tweaked to get the best signal over to the receiver. Vanns really made the difference here. This is my second purchase from them and in both cases they were nothing but great in way they handled the transactions. Coincidently, the products I purchased dropped in price soon after I bought them. In both cases Vanns matched the price!! I am extremely happy with the unit thus far and Vanns. They are now my number one electronics store.

Before this, I owned a Sony Receiver, Onkyo Receiver and recently a Pioneer 1121. I had nothing but problems with the Pioneer 1121 which I ended up returning. When I bought the Denon 1712 I wasnt expecting much but at least better reliability than the PIoneer. What I got was a whole lot more, the sound quality on this Denon far exceeds the Pioneer 1121 with a warm full bodied and dynamic sound that puts the Pioneer 1121s THX certified sound to shame. It makes my music and movies sound amazing. I had an inkling that Denon made good receivers, but I did not expect this level of performance. I am guessing that Denons discrete amplifiers and high quality manufacturing is responsible for the marvelous audio that this receiver produces.

I am now a firm believer in Denons receivers and will be looking to them for future upgrades in the future. If you want an entry level receiver with budget audiophile features like Audyssey XT and plenty of input and outputs, definitely check this receiver out. Side note If you want upconversion features for low level video sources, then check out the higher up model, the AVR-1912 model because the 1712 does not have upconversion. All of my sources are HDMI so I didnt need upconversion,. Highly recommended receiver!

I bought my Denon 1712 after I had bought my Energy Take Classic 5.1 Speakers from Vanns, through Amazon. The speakers were delivered so fast, I wasnt expecting them and missed the UPS guy. But I got them a couple days later. The price and speed of deliver of my speakers made me quite comfortable with buying the receiver from Vanns also. The receiver also was delivered faster than I anticipated. Everything worked out though and it all sounds very good. The set up of the receiver took a while to figure out. Im a novice with this sort of equipment and the instructions that came with the receiver werent extirely clear. But, Im happy with my purchase, excited about my new home theatre set up and would certainly buy from Vanns.com again.

I was looking for a lower cost 7.1 surround reciever and found it with the Denon AVR1712. It has the Dolby True surround and that was important for me. Used the mic that comes with it to set up the 7.1 surround and I can hear sounds from movies that I had not heard before. Very impressed.
