I needed a home theater system to go with my new LCD TV but was having trouble finding one with the quality and features I wanted at a reasonable price. Research led me to this system.
The Onkyo HT-SP904 has high quality sound, comprehensive features, excellent connectivity options and looks like it was made to go with my TV. Specially important to me was the option of being able to connect via HDMI to allow for maximum video and audio quality. The system includes a DVD player capable of 1080P upscaling and an iPod dock option which help make the price attractive.
Set up was easily accomplished with one minor glitch--the receiver is shipped with the surround speaker setting in the off position which caused some temporary consternation. The system includes auto speaker calibration with an included microphone that results in an outstanding listening experience.
If I could improve any aspect of the system it would be to make the speakers physically smaller.
Purchasing from Vanns was a no-brainer since the price was significantly better than any other. About a week after I received the system, the price dropped and Vanns is crediting the difference to my credit card account.
The only problem was shipping. Vanns chose to use FedEx Ground which only delivers during business hours on weekdays. Since I work, this became a problem and after three failed delivery attempts which added four days to the delivery time, I had to go to FedEx and pick the system up. And pickup is no mean feat--at a bulky 96 lbs the box was difficult to get up the stairs into my apartment. |

Awesome system for the money. My room is very large with 21 foot ceilings, and the sound is more than that space can handle. Speakers are a beautiful high gloss black, and sound terrific. Yes, they are a bit large, but not objectionable. Set-up was easy, other than some issues with my cable box HDMI output. The picture on my 720P Samsung flat panel is much better now with the HDMI cables over component.
Vanns price, service, tracking system, everything was excellent. |

This system is outstanding.
RECIEVER
- Setup was a breeze
- Audyssey equalizer claibration sets up 3 main listening locations was simple and really enhances the home theatre experience
- 2x 1080p HDMI pass through inputs simplified my configuration greatly since I have only one HDMI input on my TV
- Although there is no HDMI audio which is available with the HT-SP908, sound quality is equaled with an inexpensive optical cable from my DVR and digital coaxial cable included from the DVD player
SPEAKERS
- Very attractive design
- Outstanding audio clarity
SUBWOOFER
- Easily the best subwoofer included in systems of this price range, very powerful with great range
DVD PLAYER
- Great upconverting DVD player, not buggy like many of the cheaper upconverting players
- Simple user interface
CORDS-CABLES
- HDMI cable included
- Thin speaker wires, I would recommend upgrading
Overall I am very pleased with this system, and with my purchase experience through Vanns. |
