I recently bought a house and was looking to get a sound system set up. I did some pretty extensive research for a couple of weeks before buying this unit. To me, it seems like the best bang for you buck and it lived up to that. The sound is incredible and the receiver can do everything that I need it to and more. When listening to music, Im hearing instruments in songs that I didnt even know where there. The only issue that I have and its a good issue to have is that there may be too many features as far as listening modes. It can get confusing with all the different settings, but the book does help with descriptions of what each setting is optimal for. Overall, its a great system and I highly recommend it.

Great product. I used bigger speaker wire but my choice. I prefer to use bigger wire for better sound and less resistance over longer wire. Great sound.

complex system, very little feedback on why so many listening channels. Onlt one I found that actually gets the sound in all the speakers. Quality of music isnt there on these speakers. Not that user friendly. Having to assign what input would do what equipment. overall wasnt a bad price, could have done better.

I bought this mainly for the receiver. The Onkyo TX-NR609 features 7.2 channels with 5-way binding posts for the five of those and spring-type for the surround back channels. There are six HDMI one on the front, 2 component video, one PC RGB which will be converted to HDMI by the receiver, and four composite video inputs and one output for each. The HDMI ports are version 1.4 and support 3D video, HDMI Thru in standby, and an Audio Return Channel. The TX-NR609 sports two each digital optical and coaxial audio inputs and six analogue audio inputs. Zone 2 audio is supported by pre-outs as are the dual subwoofer outputs or powered through the surround back channels but there are no other analogue inputs or outputs for integrating legacy gear or external amplification. What there is, however, is a rear Ethernet port and a front USB. The USB port offers a direct digital connection for an iPod or iPhone, along with support for audio playback from USB mass-storage devices. In the case of the TX-NR609 the USB port even support album from your iPodiPhone.

The TX-NR609 supports streaming over a wired connection and is compatible with Windows 7 and DNLA. When connected to the network, you can much more simply update the firmware of the receiver something that manufacturers are moving more and more toward and use Onkyos free Remote App for iPodiPhone to control the receiver.

On the technical side, the Onkyo TX-NR609 has Marvell Qdeo upconversion same as in the new Oppo BDP-93 BD Player and upscaling all the way up to a 4k resolutions - something that no current home displays can do. It has PLL jitter-cleaning circuitry to preserve signal clarity, lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding, an overlaid on-screen display for easy adjustment of settings, and Dolby ProLogic IIz front height and Audyssey DSX front heightwidth support. Audyssey 2EQ is on board for room correction as is Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Speakers are adequate, but not thx rated. Overall a great value, I highly recommend.

I have been carefully shopping for an home theater system for about two years. I did not want to break the bank but I also wanted to feel like I was in the theater when I watched a movie. This system does the trick. I have had Onkyo components for thirty years and have grown accustomed to their reliability and performance and this product does not disappoint. It is practically fool proof to set up as every connection point is color coded. The provided microphone easily lets the system calibrate itself to your room. My room is 30 x 18 x 10 high, so I needed a system that would fill this room and this system does it with ease. The folks at Onkyo have out done themselves again. You wont be disappointed with this purchase.

I was in the market for a home theater system for the house I just bought. Since I bought a house, that also means I was on a tight budget. I was hesitant to buy the Onkyo HT-S8409.. The receiver is really nice and has all the features that I wanted including streaming internet radio, but the speakers I had little information about. After all, I wanted to make sure all my neighbors knew that I moved in. After pricing out individual components out, I realized that this package was going to be the best I could get in my price range and a good starting point in case I want to upgrade. The package arrived in a tall, heavy box. I would recommend inviting a friend over to help move it in. All the components arrived as they should and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. My only complaint about the packaging is that they use thin speaker wire and they were cut a little too short for the places I wanted to mount the speakers. I suggest buying speaker wire if you are serious about your theater system. The speakers sound great and fill out the room nicely about a 15 x 20 room. The speakers werent as loud as I was hoping for, but they are pretty good considering the price and package. I also never heard of Vanns before I made my purchase and was a little wary when I needed to contact customer service about a billing issue I had. When I called, someone answered immediately without a menu routing system which was pleasant for me and the guy who answered was extremely helpful in resolving my issue. I would recommend Vanns to my friends and will be using them for my electronic purchases. Overall I am extremely happy with this product and would recommend this product to a friend. Vanns customer service was also great. If you are looking for a home theater and arent looking to spend several thousands of dollars, buy this product from this website. Youll be happy you did.
