| This unit is one powerhouse home theater system especially if you have a HDTV monitor and a ps3 or xbox 360. Very easy to set up all speaker cords are color coordinated. The unit also has 2 HDMI inputs and one output, this is good for all new entertainment equipment you are going to get such as an HD cable box and other HD supported equipment. HDMI is the future in tv and device connectivity and these days its a must for a receiver to have some HDMI support even if you are not going to use it, eventually you will want to. This unit is also compatible with satelite radios and an optional iPod dock may be purchased to hear your tunes in full force. The speakers can be wall mounted and the subwoofer can make your whole house shake. This is a great buy especially with the price and you can have a peace of mind that Vanns customer support is willing to help any problems that occur with your unit. |

With two little ones in the house and technology changing faster and faster I needed to upgrade my HT sound as painlessly as possible, while at the same time ensuring that I would not have to upgrade again anytime in the near future. Now Im not the sound freak that I used to be so I did more than my fair share of research before I chose the HTS800. Weeks! And thank goodness I did because there were alot of choices out there that I almost went with for convenience reasons aloneclose to the house, on sale, did not trust online due to size, etc.. Then I stumbled across Vanns. But to be honest, you guys seemed to good to be true and for another few weeks I debated some more whether to use you or any internet vendor for that reason.
Well, after finally giving your company a shot, I can only so WOW! Your sight and links were very informative. And while the reviews seemed a little pumped up while I was researching... I now can only say that you guys rock! Your prices cannot be beat anywhere on the planet nor can your shipping. My stereo was processed so quickly that I received my shipment four days early. Pretty nice as it was a Birthday present for ME and the price was right. I still do not know how you do the tax thing but Ill take the savings anywhere I can get it. Thank you. Lastly, great communication from purchase to delivery. E-mail traffic makes this part so easy to keep the customers updated but not everyone does it. Oh well, THEY are not my concern any more.
In closing, yeah my Onkyo HTS800 is awesome and does everything that I need it to do, but it is because Vanns offers such great service while also carrying an excellent selection of products that I am a customer for life. Keep up the great work.

After a few months of intence research we purchased the Onkyo HT-SR800Bblack to update our theater system package since it had glowing reviews in may catagories. I replaced our 6yr old Pioneer 5.1 in which I thought was a great system... until we hooked up the Onkyo HT-SR800 and wow, such a major improvement! I gave the Onkyo SR800 a 5 star rating based upon our set up and situation. Listed below I will give a full review of Pros and Cons, you may notice that some Cons listed are also listed Pros, I will explain that as well as it depends on what type of set up you have or what your looking for. I will list our set up, products and room size first so you can get a feel if this system is right for you.

*Note In my opinion the cons are not that much of a concern as I will explain in my review.
Speaker wire. Onkyo provides color coded wire to hook up to the color coded 7.1 multichannel inputs. The wire provided is a great idea from Onkyo and may be a good thing if you do not want to buy wire because of an extra expence and it makes it a bit easier to hook up all 7 speakers sub has its own coax. wire that is included in package. If your room is fairly large as mine 14x20 there probley isnt enough wire supplied to hook up the back 2 speakers. If your going to go through the trouble of running wire through walls & etc. as I did I would recomend using a good quality 16ga wire unless you are running wire over 30-35ft to the back speakers, then maybe I would consider poss. a 14ga. Yes, there was a dif. as I hooked up the suppiled wire first to determine how much of a diff. there may be. I noticed the sound was not as clearcrisp as with the 16ga wire. I used 16ga Monster wire, now I cant tell you if the Monster wire is that much better over another quality brand since I did not have any other 16ga wire to hook up but I can tell you that I could tell the diff. between the supplied and the 16ga I installed. So in essance, I recomend a 16ga speaker wire
HDMI pass through. What the HDMI 1.3 pass through is just that... a pass-through. The Onkyo HT-SR800 reciever will only pass a video signal... not audio, as you will have to hook up either a coaxial or optical from the HT-SR800 to what ever the unit may be such as your Tv, dvdcd player, cable top box & etc. to take adavtage of the system. So if your looking to just have one cable HDMI to provide video & audio you may want to invest in the Onyko 604 reciever no speakers included for that type of set up. This did not bother me one bit since I arranged my set up different... let me explain. If you hook up your supply such as a cable top box Ill use that as an example you will have to have the receiver on to watch tv as it will only send the signal in the on position. This is something I did not want do to the fact I dont need to watch sponge bob in 7.1 unless I desire... as you can tell I have kids. So what I did is run a HDMI cable from my cable box to the tv and an optical cable to the Onkyo reciever thus allowing me to watch tv without having the receiver on. The onkyo HT-SR800 will pass a 1.3 video signal through the unit to take advantage of HD-DVD & Blu-Ray players if you desire to use the HDMI inputs, now thatsa big plus since most budget blu-rays only provide 1.0 Onyko was thinking ahead thier. This unit provides 2 HDMI inputs with 1 output, this is to take adavntage of connecting 2 devices if you only have one HDMI input on your TV my DLP has two inputs so its not that big of deal for me, buts its there is I need it so I can count that as a in my book.
No DVD player. Actually I consider this more of a plus than a con. unless your looking for an all in one unit but take note if an all in one unit is what your looking for make sure the dvd player is not part of the receiver as if something goes wrong with the dvd player you have to replace the whole unit except speakers of corse In most cases people have there own unit so in essance its not a big concern in my eyes.
Speakers. I was amazed how well the 7.1 speakers sounded, I read a few reviews to where some had noted that the speakers were marginal as they mentioned a great receiver wso-so to ok speaker set up, of corse they did not mention if they were using the supplied wires or using a better gauge. As I had mentioned I noticed a diff. between the supplied and the 16ga. I cant comapare the speakers to say a $1,800 to $4,000 set up but I can say they blew away my 6yr old Pioneer set which I thought was pretty good to begin with. Even though most of your movies only support 5.1 a few newer ones do provided a 7.1 set up as I assume as time goes on quite a few will be 7.1, so in other words your getting very good quality speakers not to mention your ready for the 7.1 format thinking ahead. Now for the base... simply amazing! Very crisp and clear, it takes on even the lowest bass freq., I was very impressed! Now keep in mind, I have no back wall as our area opens to the kithen and I can still feel the base, just ask my wife she will tell you hehe as we watched a few HD movies such as Transformers, it actually put you in the middle of the action.
Audyssey 2EQ. What the audyssey 2EQ actually does is wonderful! It calabrates all 8 speakers to the room layout. By placing the A2EQ in 3 desired areas it calculates the distance freq of each speaker, truly accurate and what a time saver! Just make sure the room is quiet when doing this as it picks up the slightet sounds. I did end up tweeking the set up just a little bit though, I wanted a bit more bass than it suggested but all in all it was right on.
Connections. There are more than enough connections they you may need with 2 optical & 2 coaxial for dig. audio along wanalog 6 in 2 out. Speaker conn. can handle banna plugs as well as bare ends. Video has 2 HDMI inputs 1 out remember just a pass through, S-video 3 in 1 out, Composite vid. 4 in 1 out also has AB set up if you want to listen to 5.1 in one area and listen to 2 speaker set up in another In other words you will be set with any type of system set up you may have.
Overview. All in all I believe the Onkyo Ht-SR800 is the biggest bang for the buck. I would def. compare this system with a friends system Dennon that cost him around $900 and thats with out speakers. I truly believe your getting a $900.00 system with high quality speakers included for half price. An A plus to Onkyo as well as Vanns!

| I bought this to go with my panasonic 50 plasma 77U model. The 800 is very cool looking I think. It has an easy guide for hook-up and it took me about an hr to get everything hooked up. I have direct tv, and toshiba HDA3. The sound microphone check is great..really balanced everything out perfectly.To me the sound is awesome..it replaced a previuos hitachi HTIB. I would like to have had HDMI audio feed...but this is a great unit overall. Vanns was great..I got the thing by fed ex in a few days!!!I couldnt believe it. |

| Despite its low cost, it doesnt have the sound of a cheaper system. I have had a Sony for years, but this system beats it hands down. It picks up the little sounds like guns clicking when the hammer gets pulled back even when it is cranked up. the only drawback I have found thus far is that I cant get the HDMI pass through to work, it could be that I am doing something wrong, but for the time being I am using optical cables and it is working pretty good with that. |

Very fast delivery with this product. Was easy to put together. When I was doing the automatic speaker setup, it came up error,reconnected the wires and went and did the steps. Am very happy that I purchased this as the sound is great.
Would recommate this to a friend.
