Sound included
Put Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD MA decoding, 660W of total output power, and a 5.1-channel surround sound speaker system into the same box, and what do you get? A great way to experience the studio-quality surround sound found on Blu-ray Disc movies. Each of the HT-S3300's five surround sound speakers — including four satellite speakers and a center-channel speaker — employ a 3.5" driver to envelop your living room with full-range surround sound audio. And completing the listening experience with deep, controlled bass audio, this Onkyo HTIB offers an independent subwoofer with an 8.0" down-firing driver. Further, while the bass-reflex cabinets used by each speaker enhance low-frequency efficiency and performance, magnetic shielding of the front-channel and center-channel speakers ensures safe placement near your other home A/V components.
Ready to tie your 3D home theater together
The prospect of 3D home viewing was just too much to resist, so you've totally revamped your home theater for 3D compatibility. You've got the flat panel 3D HDTV, 3D active glasses for everyone in the family, the 3D Blu-ray player, and the latest 3D Blu-ray releases. Sure, you're ready for the full 3D experience at home, but you still feel like something is missing . . . like the system unity you enjoyed with your old 2D Onkyo receiver. Well, equipping you with total system connectivity for the 3D home theater, Onkyo presents the HT-S3300 with the HT-R380 receiver. Equipped with HDMI v1.4 inputs and output, this Onkyo home theater system is capable of handling all your 3D connectivity needs. With expanded bandwidth capabilities over the previous HDMI v1.3 standard, HDMI v1.4 allows transmission of Full HD 1080p video, studio-quality multichannel surround sound, and high definition 3D content . . . all along a single cable! The HDMI v1.4 connectivity offered by the HT-S3300 is ideal for integrating all of your 3D components into a seamless home theater system. And, adding another level of performance to your system, HDMI v1.4 sports an audio return channel. Now, rather than using additional audio cables, you can send any audio signal received directly by your HDTV back to the HT-S3300 and your home audio system via the same HDMI v1.4 cable that's feeding video to the TV! (Note, HDMI v1.4 cables are required for both 3D and audio return channel signal transmission.)
Blu-ray — it's all about the audio
Okay, so Blu-ray Disc isn't all about the audio. Blu-ray Disc media may offer Full 1920 x 1080p HD viewing, but it also offers something equally impressive — studio-quality surround sound. Because of inherent limitations, DVDs only have room for compressed audio, or audio whose highest and lowest frequencies have been removed to minimize data size. Sure, DVD audio is surround sound, but it's missing the subtle nuance of the studio-original soundtrack. That's where Blu-ray comes in: with it's expanded storage capacity, Blu-ray Disc can accommodate full uncompressed surround sound, i.e. audio true to the studio original. And ensuring that your home theater is capable of decoding Blu-ray's digital audio channels, Onkyo's HT-S3300 offers both Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio decoding. These two advanced processing decoding technologies unlock the Blu-ray audio experience, bringing you the surround sound the director intended for you to hear over the included 5.1-channel speaker system.
Get your game on
As a gamer, your interests are wide. You play rock-band games as much as you suit-up for sports games or go special-ops for an action/shooter game. Accordingly, you're aware of the different graphical nature and demands of each of these gaming genres. Ensuring that you enjoy optimal system performance no matter what kind of gaming you're doing, Onkyo has outfitted the HT-S3300 with four specialized Game modes. Choose between Rock, Sports, Action, or RPG to optimize your home theater's performance to match the needs of your gaming content.
Your favorite playlists, at home
You love jetting around town with tunes from your MP3 player flooding your ears. But once you get back home, you'd rather be listening you all your favorite music using your home audio system. If only there were a way to finish the playlist you'd started in town back without having to go through the hassle of finding a disc or queuing up your music library. Enter the HT-S3300. Thanks to a front-panel input, you can easily connect your MP3 player to your home theater system, and instantly pick up your playlist right where you left off. (Note, you'll need an adapter cable with a 3.5mm auxiliary jack to plug into this Onkyo receiver.)
Two choices: A or B
It's seems such a pity to limit the superb audio output offered by the HT-S3300 to just one room in your house. Why not share a little of the audio bliss with another room . . say the kitchen, or even back deck? Well, the folks at Onkyo think that's a great idea. As proof, they've equipped the HT-S3300 with Speaker A and B powered front-channel pairs. Of course, you'll use the Speaker A pair as the front left and right pair in your 5.1-channel home theater setup. However, you you're also free to setup a second stereo pair in another room using the Speaker B output pair. Accordingly, if you're not watching a movie or listening to music in the living room, you can simply push the A/B selector button on the HT-S3300's front panel and switch over to your speaker pair in the other room. Put on a favorite album while you cook in the kitchen or relax with friends on the deck.
Innovative control
While most A/V receivers offer some sort of on-screen display for navigating your system, they often suffer from the same flaw: in order to change settings, you have to leave the program you're watching. No so with the HT-S3300 — this gizmo's got an overlaid on-screen display. As long as you're using HDMI cables to connect to your video display, you can check and change system settings without leaving your movie or show. The on-screen display appears translucently overlaid on top of whatever you're watching. Change settings without missing a beat with the HT-S3300 from Onkyo.
The Audyssey Suite
A variety of factors can influence the quality of your home listening experience. Furniture, walls, and home-theater layout can interfere with speaker acoustics. Changes in programming — as between TV shows and commercials — can cause annoying fluctuations in volume levels. And listening at low volumes can cause you to miss out on some of a song or score's nuances. Ensuring that you always enjoy optimal performance from your system, Onkyo has equipped the HT-S3300 with a suite of Audyssey technologies. First, Audyssey EQ brings you an automated speaker-configuration process, employing a pre-set correction filter for each speaker and customizing performance to your living room's acoustics. Second, Audyssey Dynamic Volume automatically compensates for volume fluctuation in different audio content to deliver an even listening experience between programming and commercials. Finally, Aydyssey Dynamic EQ maintains consistent bass response, tonal balance, and surround sound effect at different volume levels, ensuring that you enjoy the natural dynamics of your audio content no matter the listening volume.

One month in and it still works...as it should. The HDMI output was the selling point for me and it is as easy to setup as advertised. I have my HD cable box and PS3 going into it via HDMI and an HDMI out to my 60 inch Sony. Every now and then I have to turn the receiver off when I switch from one input to another because it will make a hissing sound or not produce audio. Hence the 4 ratings.

I was very pleased with the look and quality of the product. After setting up the system it took me a while to get familiar with it and all of the settings. Keep in mind this is my first real surround receiver. I am very pleased with the sound quality and the speakers that came with it. Although I could see in the future upgrading the front and back speakers with a higher quality. The subwoofer is very nice and the receiver has plenty of adjustment for each individual speaker. Overall I couldnt be happier with my purchase.

I thought I wanted a sound bar for its ease of installation and connectivity regarding speaker placement and so on... I listened to all that I could find in local Best Buy and such.
Being somewhat of an audiofile dating back to the 70s and 80s, spending more than I should have on High End audio equipment, I just couldnt convince myself that a long skinny tube of speakers could replicate the sound I was looking for. The soundbars did not sound bad by any means, just a little directional and tinny at low volumes...imho.
Everything I read pointed to the Onkyo HT-S3300 as an outstanding entry level Home system. I took the plunge based on countless high ratings of the system and Onkyos reputation for quality. I was NOT dissappointed !
The sound is full and rich and the speakers sound much larger than they appear. I did change the speaker wire to a 16 guage because the supplied wire seemed a little small. peace of mind. My two recommendations are
1.Make sure you set your dynamic volume to at least LIGHT setting
2. Make sure all available firmware updates are installed in your bluray player .
This Onkyo system exceeded my expectations!

I own this system now for two weeks and cannot find any negative points. As of right now, I am totally satisfied with this purchase.
Design & Quality
The black color and the systems design are modern and not to fancy. I did not expect that quality at the speakers, yes, they are not to be compared with a top line speaker system, but they are far above what I have seen at other systems. The AV receiver demonstrates great product development and offers multiple inputs.
A structured system menu makes the configuration and system setup easy and delivers your satisfaction.
Sound
This unit simply rocks Clear sound and a solid bass. Even the sub woofer is passive you will have a full bass. I use this system in a open space living room and experienced a superb listening experience. I was concerned that not having a contained room would diminish the sound quality, but this wan not the case.
Negative
Speaker cables, order a set of speaker cable with this purchase, since the original cables are very cheap. I understand that there are no better cables inside, different set ups, in wall installation, but anyways, they should have thrown in some better and longer cables.

I bought this unit because of the excellent reviews it received. The diagrams in the manual along with the color coded speaker wires made connecting the unit itself extremely fast and easy! However, connecting the TV was a little more challenging and that was because the TV had only one audio output and I could only use a digital audio coax cable. Similarly, my DVD player which is old only used a digital optical audio cable to hook up to the receiver. In both cases the Onkyo receiver had these connections! Furthermore, because the Onkyo receiver had an HDMi OUT connection which I then connected to the TV HDMI input, I was able to connect the receiver to the TV allowing me to view the Onkyos setup menu and make my choices using the remote. This was invaluable as I have a bad back! I am very much a novice 70 yr.old novice at that! and I was able to set up the whole system by myself! That says something about the ease of use! I will eventually purchase the IPOD dock. This is a very nice system and I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

After extensive research with the many different brands and features available in the market, I found that for under $300 this system is the best. Its easy to set up, and was packaged very well. The main reason I believe that this system is the best at its price point is because it provides hdmi pass through which enables me to play PS3. At this price, its rare to find a system that has this feature. I also connected the wii [via component] and comcast as well. This system sounds amazing and cant be beat. Let me re-iterate. This system is indeed the best bang for your buck. Have a great day!

I had been looking at Home Theater Systems for two years. This system is a great value for the price. Sounds great in my family room which is about 16 x 20 with a high ceiling. My daughter cranks it up when were not home so she can hear it throughout the house. The only minor complaint was the installation instructions. After trying for a couple of hours to follow the instructions and purchasing an extra HDMI cable, I just gave up on that and connected it the way I thought it should work - and it is fine! One more thing - the speaker wires that come with it are definitely lightweight - eventually Ill probably replace those.

The remote stops working intermittently and will not work until i have reset the remote. I thought about returning the system but I thought i would give it a chance to prove itself but it has not panned out. The on screen UI is cumbersome to use. I have my DISH DVR attached with HDMI, my LG blu-ray also with HDMI, and my ReplayTV with component. Took me a bit to figure out that the component feed would not play back through my HDMI connected Panny Plasma TV. All the HDMIs will playback through the HDMI and all the components must playback through a component. And I guess that also means all composite must play back through a composite out. I also have a Roku Soundbridge hooked into the box so I can listen to all my PC based music through the system. Everything works very well and has excellent sound. Perhaps I might have eventually found some solution to this problem, but frankly, if it is this difficult to hook up a simple starter set to a basic TV, then there is a problem with the products. I returned the system, with great regret.

As a poor college student, I did quite a bit of research before buying a home theater system. The problem of course, is that most decent systems cost at least a thousand dollars, and anything cheaper is usually of questionable quality. Ive used these speakers now for about 2 weeks, and I have been pleasantly surprised. The front and center speakers are superb - the theater audio setting sounds great. The receiver even does a great job emulating surround sound for DVDs lacking it. My only complaint is that the rear speakers are a little weak. Although as of today Im still using the speaker wire that came with it. With a few more tweaks this system should sound just as good as a much more expensive model.

I am completely satisfied with the HTS300 in both ease of setup and sound performance. I have the rear speakers operating through a wireless adapter, and I know my speaker placement is not optimal, but the surround sound is still amazing. The labels on the remote buttons are small and hard to read in the dimmed lighting of watching a movie, but i have quickly learned the locations of the ones i use most frequently and they remote is layed out logically for each function. In addition to the cost value, you dont have to tweek any of the default settings. I used the Dynamic Eq mode last night during the NFL Hall of Fame game, so that the commercials did not blow me away....the sound level remained constant from game to commercials.

I never had a home theater before I bought this Onkyo system. I owned an HDTV, a DVD player, and basic Sony soundbar-subwoofer combination, but it really wasnt home theater as far as I was concerned. I got better sound than I would have gotten from my television speakers alone, but it did not compare to the rich, full sound I heard from the systems on display in stores. I decided to take the plunge and began to research reviews online for sound systems to complement the HDTV and DVD player I already had I did not want to go out and replace my DVD player with a theater in a box system.
After a few days of reading, I decided the Onkyo HTS3300 was sufficient for my needs and within my means. It arrived on my doorstep while I was away attending a conference, so I ended up taking delivery of my system at 1230 a.m. when I came home. I was excited to hear what it would sound like, so I unpacked everything and began to set it up using the enclosed directions. Please understand that I was very tired and it was well past my bedtime when I began connecting all the color-coded wires and cables and placing the speakers throughout my small living room. I say that to let you know that I had only one problem setting everything up. That problem was attaching the front left and right speaker wires to the correct terminals on the receiver. First, I misread the directions and attached the wires to the wrong terminals, and then, in my sleepy state and working with bad lighting, I had difficulty attaching those wires to the correct terminals. However, once I got everything properly connected, the system started right up and the sound was a dream!
I have been learning all the ways to configure the system to my taste and to the space where my home theater is set up. I am very pleased with my purchase and I would recommend this system to people like me who want good sound for TV, movies, and music, who are not audiophiles, but just average folks who want to hear things well. I have Roku player connected to my television, and the sound from the Pandora radio stations is incredible through this system! For the money, I think I got a lot of bang for my buck. I would recommend using HDMI cables whenever possible for connections, and I plan to purchase some speaker stands for at least my two left and right front speakers to get them up to ear-level and off the floor.
In short, it was easy enough for a sleepy direction follower to set up in the wee hours of the morning, and it has awesome sound.

Ive had this product for about 2 weeks now and Im quite happy with it. Some people in other reviews complained the sub was lacking since it isnt self-powered, but Ive found it to be plenty loud. I even find myself turning it down because I live in a duplex. The wires that come with it are 24 gauge and I replaced those with 16 gauge wires. I never tried it with the original wires so I cant comment there. My only complaint is that there is a bit of a learning curve involved with the different sound modes. Each input will require you to set a mode, but once you get every possible combination set you are good to go. One thing that is useful to know is that on the PS3 you will want to set it to output PCM and then set the Onkyo to Multichannel. When watching blu-ray the TrueHD light wont actually light up because the player PS3 is doing the decoding. The last home theater system I had was about half this price and I can definitely say this one was worth the extra money.

I hung the surround speakers from the ceiling - they recommend wall mount - and used a very simple L-bracket and two screws. Theyre not going anywhere.
Sound is a vast improvement over my old system. For the price and size, I am impressed with the output and clarity in sound. Only now am I tweaking the set-up fully to maximize sound I let it sit for about a week while I adjusted to it. The remote is confusing for me, but Ill live with it.

This was my first purchase of a surround sound system and I did quite a lot of researching before I decided on the Onkyo HTS3300. Installation was simple but it took a little while to tune everything up to the way I like it. The result---surprisingly good sound.
The center and surround speaker perform great with 5.1 movies and even sound good with plain old stereo music and CDs. I was concerned that the sub-woofer might not be adequate since it is passive and not very large. However, it pumps out an impressive amount of strong, tight bass. I have to turn off the enhanced bass settings at night for fear of disturbing the neighbors.
My only complaint, its remote codes do not work for my TiVo remote. Consequently, I will need to buy a new universal remote, upgrade my TiVo remote, or just get used to juggling another remote on the coffee table.
Conclusion--I couldnt be happier with the system. Considering its price especially since through Vanns it cost me far less than anywhere else I could find, I highly recommend the Onkyo HTS3300 for anyone looking for an entry level or budget surround sound system. You wont be disappointed.

After doing extensive research on what was available in the market, I narrowed down my choice to this Home Theather Setup. I did so based on reviews from all over the world and detailed comparisons with like kind units There were, of course, many personal decisions due to size and power of unit. I live in a smaller home and do not need to knock the walls down to be happy.
Set up was relatively simple and it fit well into my dcor. Sound was very true to life and added a great deal to the video presntation. The Amp works very well to get local radio channels and with my CD player, it puts out enough sound so that I can hear it in my basement when working down there. Any sound is richer with this unit.
Onkyo has had a well made product and they have continued with this model. I did not hesitate to buy this unit , especially at the incredible price I received at Amazon. Vanns delivery was faster than expected and the package was well packed. I would have no problem recommending Vanns again.

I recently purchased the Onkyo HTS3300. I wanted a 5.1 channel system for my 3D TV because of the configuration of our room. It has been a delight. Setup was easy, the sound is terrific and just what we needed.
As with many newer components, integration with my Samsung BD and TV is a bit of a challenge as now I have 4 remotes for cable, sound, TV and BD. But the sound with the BD, CDs, and DVDs is such an upgrade for us we love it. For the price I am not sure you can beat it.
Vanns was just great. I shopped a lot, finally decided and they sent it with no shipping or sales tax at a more than competitive price in less time than they said it would take.

Ive had a lot of surround sound systems over the years, and this one sounds better out of the box than anything Ive had. The surround sound field is rich and convincing, and the sound is very organic for lack of a better word. Sometimes the sound from lower cost systems can be flat and lifeless, but that definitely is not the case here. Plug in a high definition source and prepare to get blown away. Dolby TrueHD is a thing you dont expect to find in a receiver of this class. If the system fits your needs, youll be set for many years to come. Ive had an Onkyo receiver before and Ive never failed to be impressed by them.
I wouldnt go with this for a large room. In a medium sized living area I have to pump the volume about half way up. But for what it is and what it does, its close to perfect. Its the only system Ive had where I havent been conspiring to replace this or that after the first month.

I recently purchased my first plasma TV and found my older version Bose 3-2-1 to be outdated. My budget was very limited as I looked for a replacement. I am incompetent regarding anything AV related, so I started researching my options on the different forums. The Onkyo HT-S3300 was recommended and looked to be perfect for my situation.
I ordered one from Vanns and find myself very pleased with them and the Onkyo system. I have spent about a week setting up and placing up the speakers, getting correct cables for my components and hooking them up, and learning more about the functions of the HT-S3300. I am having a hard time believing this $300 system can sound so good, especially compared to the Bose I paid over $1000 for almost 10 years again.
I was a little hesitant to get this Onkyo because it only has a passive sub. I am not disappointed as it shakes the room.
For those with much deeper pockets, who dont have to ask what the difference is between composite and component cables, who can hear everything the wife mumbles under her breath in another room, I know there are better systems out there. For me, I cant believe I get this much home theater experience and enjoyment for the money. I highly recommend the Onyko HT-S3300 as an entry-level consideration.

This system is incredible! It was super easy to set up the directions were easy to follow, though they were hardly necessary. All the speaker wire is color coded, which helps a ton. Each speaker looks elegant and are very sturdy. In fact, when I was mounting the rear speakers onto wall speaker stands, the speaker slipped from my hands and hit the laminate wood floor seven feet below. Yikes! But not a ding or scratch to be seen on the speaker or the floor!
Once it was all hardwired in it was a snap to set up and configure with my TV and equipment. I currently have the system hooked up to my PS3 and my upconverting DVD player- I know, I know, but I keep it so I dont have to run my PS3 when I just want to watch a DVD. After getting the settings adjusted, I did what I call the Lord of the Rings Test, where I pop in the Fellowship of the Ring, skip to the epic battle near the end, and find the part where Boromir starts sounding the Horn of Gondor. To me thats the ultimate test to see if you feel in the middle of all the action, with the horn resonating through different speakers as the camera swings around. The Onkyo system passed with flying colors.
I have only had one problem thus far, and that was with the connectivity between my PS3 Slim and the Onkyo system. I must not have had a strong enough quality of HDMI cable, because the picture would constantly flicker but the sound would be fine. I then swapped the HDMI cable from my DVD player, and the problem has stopped. Just a heads up for any Slim owners out there.
All in all, I am very happy with this buy. I always do a lot of research before I purchase a new, expensive electronic toy for my Mancave. After scouring several techie websites and forums, I know I made the right choice. The Onkyo system sounds AWESOME and I got it for a fantastic price. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I had shopped numerous places viewing and experiencing their advertised 5.1 channel speaker systems to my dismay the premium name vendors in the world of home theater systems do not hold a flame to Onkyo and the HT-S3300 which now sites proudly in my living room for my guest to enjoy.
Ive only setup the front channel speakers and subwoofer but even with this limited sound exposure it supplies more than ample quality sound. I found the owners manual and subsequent instructions easy to understand and simple to follow. The speaker wire are all color coded as well as one receptacle on the back of each speaker and the subwoofer are color coded to match the appropriate output wire from the receiver. A great package with amazing features at a very reasonable price point. The HDMI inputs are able to pass video data to your tv and audio data to the speakers through one HDMI cable. This allows all of your electronics to connect to the AC reciever through HDMI with one cable and only one HDMI output to the TV.
It also supports ARC which allows your TV to pass audio back to the AC reciever through the input HDMI to the TV. This is very convenient for any web based functionality of your TV as you do not need a seperate cable to return sound to the reciever.
I am currently only using the front speakers, which essentially turns this system into a 3.1, but sound is more than adequate, and bass is excellent. Hopefully I will have the rear speakers set up soon to experience the full surround sound ability.
I have this paired up with the Toshiba 46ux600u and the Regza link compatibility that allows the AC reciever to be controlled through the TV is very convenient.
All in all I would highly recommend this system for ease of setup, great looks, quality sound and high functionality at a very reasonable price.
