Ready to rock!
The Onkyo HTS5200 is your all-in-one entertainment package! It includes a powerful 910W (130 x 7) A/V receiver as well as seven speakers plus a powered subwoofer cranking out a maximum of 290W of bass. All the cables and accessories you need are included, and setup is a breeze! A new addition to Onkyo home theater, these four gaming modes create an experience with more realism and impact. You can select from Rock, Sports, Action, or Role Playing Game (RPG) modes to match your gaming content. The HT-S5200 also features a proprietary port, located on the rear side of the unit, to which you can connect Onkyo's Dock for the iPod. The dock sends both video and audio signals through a single cable. Earlier versions of Onkyo's Dock for the iPod can be connected via the Remote Interactive (RI) system. Make this beautiful set the center of your home theater today!
It's got the hookups
The included HT-R570receiver features a wide variety of input and output jacks, so no matter what you want to hook up, there's a good chance it will connect just fine. HDMI for your Blu-Ray player and TV? Not a problem. There are four HDMI v1.3 inputs and an output, all with 1080p capability. Component video more your style? Two inputs, one output. Maybe you want a slightly more retro AV experience. No worries. There are four composite inputs and one inputs. Still on the audio spectrum, there are two coaxial inputs and two optical inputs for a total of 4 digital audio inputs. There are, of course, hook-ups for the included AM and FM antenna. Further, there is a set of 7.1-channel analog audio inputs. There is also an RI remote control port, and designated connections for the included iPod dock and for SIRIUS satellite radio as well (activation, hardware, and subscription fees apply). The audio output includes 7-channel +/- terminals with a subwoofer pre-out and an additional set of speaker terminals for the front speakers. Finally, there is a full set of composite connections on the front of the receiver, as well as a headphone jack. Oh, this receiver has connections alright . . .
(Note: the HT-S5200's HDMI v1.3 connections support video only; separate audio connections are required when using HDMI.)
Head-turning
The aesthetic design of the speakers for the HTS5200 is such that they manage to call attention to themselves from the background. The black wood finish and cloth grill hint at subtle elegance. At the same time, the gloss black accents, curved shape, and even spiked feet of the subwoofer speak of unrivaled boldness. Put this together, and it's enough to turn just about anyone's head.
Home's Audyssey
The epic tale of the Audyssey opens in a grand and cacophonous chamber. Our hero, Audiphilias, descendant of mortals, embarked upon a fateful journey throughout the entirety of the room, on his quest for the "sweet spot," the place where, as legend had it, Audiphilias' folk music would sound as sweet as if it were the gods themselves playing it. For many minutes, Audiphilias wandered about the area. Though he searched far and wide, his unnaturally-discerning ears found no such place. Our hero fell to his knees and fervently began praying to Frequences, goddess of sound. While he was doing this, he felt his eyes suddenly being opened. He spotted the box for his new Onkyo HTS5200 set. He made his way to it. Right then, Frequences sent a breeze to open the box for Audiphilias. He picked up the owner's manual from inside the box, but it slipped and fell to the floor. It landed open to page 42. Audiphilias read about Audyssey 2EQ. He read how the included set-up microphone would "listen" to the sound in the room and use its measurements to adjust the sound output moment-by-moment to provide an ideal "sweet spot" for up to three people in nearly any room, at any volume. This was the answer! Audiphilias first paid homage to Frequences for her gracious gifts, then proceeded to set up his system using Audyssey. When it had finished, the lyre sounded sweeter than the finest honey in the land. Finally, he returned to his "sweet spot" at the center of the couch, where he battled suitors for his seat and ultimate power wielded by the holder of the remote control. And so ends the epic tale of Audiphilias.
Let's talk tech
Alright, down to business. The HTS5200 package features three different unique types of speakers, plus the subwoofer. The first speaker type is the center channel. This two-way, bass-reflex speaker uses two 3.25"-cone woofers and a 1" balanced-dome tweeter to bring you up to 130 Watts of pristine sound from 60Hz to 50KHz. The next group of speakers is the front set. To handle the left and right audio here, two powerful satellite speakers are included. Each is set up as a two-way bass-reflex speaker, and each wood cabinet is home to a 5" cone woofer matched to a 1" balanced-dome tweeter. The frequency response is from 35Hz to 50KHz, and like each satellite speaker in this package, their peak power is a mind-blowing 130 Watts. The last type of satellite speaker included is the surround and surround back speakers. There are two each of these, which are the same speaker design, but labeled differently to designate which is surround and which is surround back. These full-range, acoustic-suspension dynamos are comprised of a 3.25" cone and produce a frequency response of 80Hz to 20kHz. Finally, the bass-reflex subwoofer uses a massive 10" cone to pump out frequencies between 25 and 150Hz. And, at 290 Watts of power, you can feel the vibrations from this monster! The surround/surround back speakers are able to produce up to 81dB of audio pleasure, while the center and front raise that number to 85 eardrum-shattering decibels. The nominal impedance of the satellite speakers is only 8 ohms, while the input sensitivity/impedance is 20 k-ohms for the subwoofer. Finally, each speaker uses a wood cabinet for superior acoustics. Put this all together and you've got one rocking (literally) speaker setup!
Processing
The included receiver for the HTS5200 HTIB not only has amazing connectivity potential — it's equipped with cutting-edge processing power, including processing for Dolby PLIIx, DD, DD-EX and DTS ES, NEO6, 96/24 This ensures that all your processing needs will be met and likely exceeded.
A freebie? Sort of.
Another neat thing about this package is that the receiver includes connections for a remote control, SIRIUS radio, and even an iPod dock to play in full, glorious surround. Even more amazing, though, is the fact that this model includes an iPod dock.
iPod dock supports the following iPods:
4th Gen iPod, 4th Gen iPod (color display), iPod photo, iPod video, iPod classic (80, 120, and 160GB), 1st - 4th Gen iPod nano, and 1st and 2nd Gen iPod touch.
What's in the box?
Your purchase of the Onkyo HT-S5200 home theater system from Vanns.com includes all of the following: Onkyo HT-R570 AV Receiver, Remote control, two batteries, speaker setup microphone, indoor FM antenna, AM loop antenna, power-plug adapter, two SKF-570F front speakers (L/R), SKC-570C center speaker, two SKM-570S surround speakers (L/R), two SKB-570 surround back speakers (L/R), SKW-570 subwoofer, three 10-ft. color-coded cables for the front and center speakers, four 30-ft. color-coded cables for surround and surround back speakers, 10-ft. subwoofer cable, four floor pads for the subwoofer, and a UP-A1L iPod dock. No wonder the box is so heavy!

Ive had this system for about a month now and am happy to say that I am completely satisfied. I like the fact that you only have to run 1 HDMI cable to your television and everything else plugs into the receiver. I have a satelite receiver , DVD, and Xbox 360 hooked up to it. The included ipod dock works well with my iphone. The sound from all these components are crystal clear. The setup was easy the Audyssey mic adjusts the speakers relative volumes for you and function buttons are very easy to use. My only complaints 1.You still have to use another cable for each component if you want to hear the sound from the system and not just from the TV 2. Th e receiver wont pass the HDMI signal to the television in the standby mode. Bottom line is if youre looking for a great sounding system and you dont want to mortgage your home in buying individual components, the HT-S5200 is worth a try.

Ive used this system for a while now. It does everything I want it to do, and more. I use it with my Dish Network system, and unfortunately the Dish remotes will not control this system. However, you can buy a Dish Network learning remote for it. It is called a Dish 21.0 remote, and I bought 2 on Amazon for under 20 bucks each. Problem solved. I was FLOORED by the sound this system gives me when I listen to Dish Networks SIRIUS channels. Normally, I would not listen to these, but now I just might - incredible 7.1 surround sound on these music channels. Other than that, the bass is great. The HDMI is pass-through, which is not a big deal to me. I just use the optical inputs. I picked this system for the price. If you pay more, you get more. I just did not want to pay a ton of money for more.

I purchased this product because of the failure of a different surround sound system. I sought out Onkyo because of their long standing track record of quality. I have to say that for the most part, the set-up of this product was fairly straight forward. The HDMI connections are a bit interesting because they do not carry the sound to the system only the video. This is because the HDMI switch is wired to itself to serve as a bridge, not as 4 individual inputs for the receiver itself. This design is much simpler to produce, it is also however much less simple to set up. The quality of the sound produced from this system is incredible however, despite the design flaw that makes the HDMI connection significantly less convenient and partially less effective. The price that I paid for this particular unit made the value stifle any real complaints. All in all, I would absolutely purchase this unit again, and I would absolutely purchase it from Vanns.

We received the product from Vanns within a few short days. Setting up the HTIB is a breeze. For the first time we discovered the TV sound is really bland ever since we played that Iron Man on Bluray through this system. The quality of sound really blew us away. Now our search is to look for content that is prologic 5.1. Optical sound cable is necessary to pump life into this system. Some ShowTime and HBO movies are in Dolby 5.1 these days -- marked on movie title desription. But you need to use optical cable from your HD cable box if your TV does not out put this sound. Even routine stereo sounds much better. Audessey works nice.

I purchased this unit for use in my bedroom in conjunction with a 55 inch LCD TV and a BluRay player. This is my 2nd Onkyo receiver buy, albeit my first home theater in a box purchase.
The box is hefty - all those speakers weigh a lot - so have help when hauling it around. I was a little concerned because the shipping box was chewed up in transit, however the contents were in pristine shape.
Setup was very easy. The iPod dock is a nice touch that my girlfriend loves. The speaker wire supplied is mickey-mouse, so will be replaced by 12AWG wire this weekend. The receiver sounds great and has plenty of HDMI connectivity - more than enough for most people.
This system is an all-around excellent value, and unless you have specific requirements or are fanatical about your stereo components I think this is a system that would suit most peoples needs.
Vanns shipped rapidly and its evident they have a commitment to customer service that will keep me coming back.

I bought this system bc I wanted a two zone system to run a 5.1 set of speakers inside and 2 speakers outside without spending a ton of money. This system does everything I need it to although I did have to make some minor adjustments to the install due to it not being a true 2 zone system. It has AB speakers which allows you to listen to two different sets of speakers, but not two different channels. I solved this easily by simply turning up the television volume and turning off the Home Theater speakers. This allows me to watch the game inside while at the same time listening to the IPOD inside or outside. I have been VERY happy with this purchase and with Vanns customer service

Having upgraded my basic home theater experience with the purchase of an LCD TV a year ago, followed by a blu-ray player a few months ago, the next logical step was to focus on the sound system. My old Yamaha system still sounded good, but its lack of HDMI inputsoutputs and its combination or receiverDVD player left me looking for an upgrade to go along with the Blu-ray.
Im one that does a lot of research before purchasing something, and thats just what I did this time. After deciding where my price range was, I read reviews on various websites to help me to narrow down my choices. While Im not a total audio expert, I do know the basics.
What drew me to this selection was the great reputation that Onkyo has as well as the fact that I wanted a HTIB system that didnt include the player. In addition, this put me somewhat on the cutting edge by allowing a 7.1 surround experience. The icing on the cake was the inclusion of the Audessey auto-calibration system. I actually narrowed down my choices to this and another higher-priced Onkyo HTIB system before deciding that this one had all of the power and features that I needed.
In addition to being a great system to get my feet wet, this system also allows for future upgrades, whether it be better speakers or a better receiver.
Shipping was quick and I was pleasantly surprised to open the box to find some heavy, quality speakers and a solid receiver. I spent most of the day getting this set-up. Not because it was difficult, but more because of some room modifications that I had to make to accommodate. All of the wires were color-coded, making it easy to keep track of what went where. The only complaint is that the wire for the rear speakers could have been a little longer 26 wire is included.
Running the 10 minute auto-calibration was a snap and produced some great sound from the beginning while allowing some manual adjustments for those that want to tweak things a little.
The manual was adequate, and actually more detailed than many Ive seen. However, there were some things that the manual didnt explain well enough. I had to do some online searching to find out more about listening modes, for example. But it wasnt anything that couldnt be easily solved.
While it doesnt really bother me for the moment, you do want to be aware that even though the receiver allows for HDMI, only the video is actually carried for use to the receiver. Youll need to run a separate optical or digital audio cable to get the surround experience, so you wont get full advantage of the newest HD audio on the newer blu-rays. However, as I said, the system is easily upgradeable and even as it is, it produces a great sound that will be powerful enough for almost any listeners.

I replaced an aging Onkyo 5.1 surround sound system that did not support Dolby Digital -EX, Dolby Prologic IIX, just Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital II. I was looking for another system by Onkyo based on my previous experience with the brand and my happiness with the value I got for my money. The added bonus was the 7.1 sound to make my Blu-ray movies jump to life. I turned to the HT-5200 to meet my needs. As an added bonus of the iPod dock and Sirius ready capability, I was sold on this model. The included microphone to setup the surround sound settings of the system using the on-board Audyssey sound technology made setup a cinch. My old Onkyo would play different tones through the speakers and one would have to manually adjust the levels of the channels along with other effects to make it sound theater-like. However, this was not the case with this great system. I found the settings selected by the Audyssey technology to be dead on and made me feel like I was sitting in the local digital cinema playing a Blu-ray movie. Once, I tried out the iPod dock along with HDTV channels sent through the receiver, I know I made a good choice with this unit. Congrats to Onkyo for yet another great unit and I got it for a great price at Vanns to boot. I highly recommend this system to a movie buff or to anyone looking for a great system at an incredible value.

In our opinion, they are too small for the sound being pushed through them. If they were the same size as the main speakers, we feel the sound would be greatly improved. This purchase was a downgrade for us and there are obvious sound differences but it still gives a nice sound. The sub-woofer is awesome! We were impressed with its size and sound. Most home theater systems only provide a tiny subwoofer with maybee 100 watts this one is 10 inches and over 250 watts. We would recommend this product to anyone who asked us. This is a quality system for the price!

I bought the Onkyo HT-S5200 for my downstairs Man Cave and so far I have been impressed! Setup can be pretty simple or as complicated as you want to make it I just hooked up the receivers by the positions on the back panel and positioned on the walls from a previous surround system. The system has a sound sensor that will help position your speakers if you are perfectionist! The speakers sound awesome and the sub woofer thumps! I have my Samsung 52 LCD hooked up to it and plan on adding a Blu Ray player as soon as I can. The only issue I have had is that I am not getting a coulple HD channels via my DirecTV DVR since hookup, but that could just be the dish is out of alignment or I need to call setup support Onkyo has a toll free number. As an FYI I shopped around and found Vanns to be the lowest, no tax, and free shipping! I would definitely recommend the OnKyo HT-S5200.

This system so far has been outstanding. I have it hooked up to a projector, PS3, and an Xbox 360 and the sound is simply amazing. I used the mic that came with it to calibrate the system, but it seemed too quiet and I was a little disappointed. But after fine tuning it manually I realized its true potential. This HTIB is a beast.
The only trouble Ive had so far is with my PS3 and hdmi cables. I use an hdmi cable out of the receiver and into my projector, then an hdmi cable into my PS3, but sometimes I will lose the picture on my projector but can still hear the sound. I sent an email and the reply I received was very prompt and courteous, but I still didnt know what the problem was exactly, so I am just running the PS3 hdmi directly into the projector for now I was a little frustrated because I couldnt figure it out.
Other than that, this is one awesome setup and I strongly encourage anyone who is shopping for a home theater system or is on the fence about this one to buy it immediately.
Great product and great website.

Sound is very good. Would recommend it to anyone. Bought on recommendation of Consumer Reports and they were right. Had to buy more speaker wire for my 28 X 28 room, not enough included in package. After many years of listing to TV sound coming from in front of you, takes a little while to adapt to the surroundsound but its great. Not technically experienced, but setup is progressing. So many possibilities for this unit.

System sounds great. However, simply connecting the HDMI cable from my cable box PS3 only provides video. I have to then connect the red white AV cables in order to hear audio. This does not make any sense because the purpose of the HDMI cable is to eliminate the need for multiple cable connections, providing both high quality video and audio in one connection. System sounds great though.

I read Consumer Reports reviews on Home Theater in a box and ordered the Onkyo 5200.
After reading the recommended speaker locations, I started the install. It was very straight forward. The back of the receiver is color coded, with matching speaker wire, making the hook up a breeze.
Once the install was done, I turned the unit on, selected the source, and started listening. Great sound from the low bass to the high cymbal crashes.
I could not ask for a better sound from a low cost, all in one package. I was impressed.
I then used the automatic sound set up program called Audyssey.
I simply pushed a button and the whole system took over and it set itself up by adjusting volume and EQ for EACH speaker.
WOW, what AWESOME sound came from the same system I was already happy with.
Hands down, I doubt any system can produce this great of sound without spending 2-3 times the price this system sells for!

For the money, you wont find something better. Is this the best sounding system? No. But, its pretty good. The highs arent as crisp as I would like I preffer silk dome, and these are paper, and if you turn up the bass, the speaker cones over extend and the sound gets way distorted. But if you keep the bass within reason, you can crank it up without any issues. The sub sounds good too. The speaker wires that come with the system are too thin in my opinion and I would replace it with at least 16 gage. If using HDMI, you wont be able to hear the sound, so youll have to additionally add an optical cable or PCM cable to get true 7.1 sound. If you think about it, you could go a bit cheaper in price, but take a look at what a few more dollars gets you more wattschannel, larger sub, 7.1 vs 5.1, two drivers more for center speaker per speaker vs. single driver. I am happy overall with my purchase and would recommend this HTIB to anyone who is looking for a decent sounding system for a medium - large room.

It delivers top notch sound. The automatic speaker calibration is very helpful. I have an older Onkyo 6.1 receiver, that has good sound. This delivers much better sound with less effort.

For the money, this is a good buy. Build quality is what I would expect from a cheap setup, not exceptional. Overall sound quality is pretty good, Id like to see a more full sound from the center channel. Sub response and output is pretty good, nothing that will run you out of the room.
Setup is pretty simple, but Id like to see a heavier gauge wire comes with 18 ga wire and longer rear channel wires. They arent long enough to run under the floor in a room appropriately sized for the setup.
Overall, I have no major complaints about it, its everything I expected for the price.

This is really a great system for the money. The sound quality is as good as systems costing several times this much, and is to Onkyos credit. The bass is impressive even in a large room, and the other speakers are small enough to be unobtrusive, but have excellent clarity. It is a stylish set of black components that fit well in any decor. There are some high-end decoding features that this system does not have, but unless you are a super hi-fidelity movie buff, you wont notice their absence. The only draw back so far is that your cable remote can not be programmed to turn the unit on AND off, only one or the other. There are ways around this if you have an expensive universal remote, but its complicated. My understanding is that this is true for many Onkyo units.

Bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas. Absolutely loves it. Easy set up. Remote takes some getting use to and I wish the labeling on the unit was a bit bigger and easier to read.
Was extremely concerned about the iPod dock being compatible with iPhone, a main reason this particular model was purchased. Vanns website did not state the same information presented on Onkyos website. I called customer service and the gentleman was extremely helpful, called Onkyo personally and followed up our conversation with an email. He also asked me to email him verifying that the iPhone worked with the dock, which it does.
Sounds great, looks great, boyfriend is happy so Im happy. Would definitely purchase from Vanns again....best price around too.

After considerable online research and assistance from a Vanns tech I determined that the Onkyo HT-S5200 would fit our needs. We wanted good to high quality audio for movies at a reasonable price. We were not interested in selecting each audio component separately. The 5200 performs great, setup was easy, and Vanns had a great price along with free delivery. We have not been disappointed.

This system is exactly what I was looking for. The sound quality is great. Im actually only using it as a 5.1 because my great room is on the smaller side. I used a wireless receiver on the 2 rear speakers. The setup instructions were very easy to follow. Im a girl no offense girls and was able to set it up by myself.

I have a small apartment and really wanted a reasonable home theater set up that met my requirements and didnt break the bank. Specifically I wanted something that had multiple optical and digital inputs, good build quality, good sound to dollar cost, and didnt have a built-in dvd or Blu-ray player. Sound quality is subjective and dependent on many variables but this set-up was for movies, tv, and internet radio so I wasnt expecting that of a $5000 or even $2000 dollar system. I tossed the speaker cables that came with the unit and used a heavier gage and the set-up was a snap. Positioned the speakers, plugged in the mic and let it perform a self calibration. Have yet to play with all the sound settings as I havent had a need. The 7.1 system is awsome. It is great being enveloped by the background sounds, hearing cars drive around you or doors close to one side or the other. No regrets with the purchase or Vanns.

Replaced my old Aiwa 500 watt surround sound system with Onkyos 7.1 HT-S5200 system. What a HUGE difference in sound quality and appearance. System was super easy to set up and fine tune to get the most performance from it. Would highly recommend to anyone thats upgraded to a flat screen or Blu-Ray player. Great job Onkyo!

The manufacturers description fails to mention this important point, therefore I call it to your attention, Audio signals received by the HDMI IN jacks are output only by the HDMI OUT Pass-Thru. HDMI sources are not output by the speakers connected to the AV receiver.

Ordered this system from Vanns and it was shipped the same day. System was easy to set up. I replaced an Onkyo 5.1 Receiver that lightning struck with this system and was shocked how much better the 7.1 sounded. The calibration mode is great and easy to use. Would recommend this system especially for the money it cost and the quality of sound. Will buy from Vanns again because of their knowledgable people and great service.

This HTIB really performed aboved expectations. Set up was a breeze but, it did take some time to run all the speaker wire. I advise you to order at least 150 to 200 ft of 16 gauge speaker wire to save time in running wire twice because the 24 gauge wire that comes by default is okay but the 16 gauge gives the system a little more ompf. I also advise that you order the Sanus front speaker stands or similar because the front speakers are fairly large and will not fit on normal satellite speaker stands. Keep in mind that this a 7 and 1 and you will need two additional stands for the extra rear speakers. Use the auddessey mic to set and calibrate speakers and you are ready to be blown away. Impressive ONKYO.
