Four drivers, two speakers, one heck of a sound

The Yamaha MCR-230BL looks its two 2-way bookshelf speakers to serve up all your favorite audio with full lows and crisp detail. To this end, Yamaha pairs a 1" dome tweeter and 4" cone driver in each speaker with a bass-reflex porting system. While the tweeters and cone drivers take care of the high- and mid-range frequencies, the bass-reflex porting enhances bass extension and efficiency for improved low-frequency performance.

These days, your music doesn't come in just one format. You've got CDs, MP3s, AACs, WAVs, and WMAs. Yamaha's MCR-230 microsystem combines playback support for all of these audio formats with a USB port, making it easy to play that new song you just downloaded on the 40W stereo speaker system. And if you're listening to an MP3 mix off of a CD, but you can't remember an artist's name, the MCR-230BL supports CD Text, displaying a disc's information on the receiver unit's LCD display.

I wanted a small shelf system for my office, but didnt want to spend the money on a Bose system. I looked at every shelf system under the sun and settled on the Yamaha. Im not disapointed at all. The sound was pretty good right out of the box, but lacked the bass that I was looking for. I immediately ordered the Yamaha 10 subwoofer from Vanns. It made all the difference in the world. Im extremely satisfied with the product, Vanns excellent service and the price.

Excellent sound out of a very small package. Bass is decent for this size system but I am adding a powered subwoofer at which point this system will outperform a similar size Bose system costing twice as much.

Pros Good clarity and separation with stock speakers I bet this thing cranks with a sub! Interface and Remote are easy to learn and understand Creates good sound up to about 50 then it feels like you are pushing the speaker but still sounds very good small footprint is perfect for a shelf, or on a small table Well built and good reputation with yamaha
Cons Despite what Vanns says it DOES NOT SUPPORT WAV FILES! So if you have a lot of music stored in WAV you may want to reconsider No AM radio No aux inputs

All in all Worth the money for above average sound and versatility. Great customer service from the phone staff.

MCR230BL is exactly the right stereo if you are looking for great sound out of a small foot print. This unit has alot of digital music capability with its usb input and its iPod dock both located on top of the unit. The speakers produce very decent bass although you can connect a subwoofer up with its sub input on the back. All in all this Yamaha is a great value and I sure enjoy mine !!!
