Options aren't a problem when you've got the Sony LB-TZX66i stereo shelf system on your side. Not only does it have a built-in five-disc CD changer, iPod dock, and AM/FM radio tuner with up to 30 presets, it's got 580W of power to back them up, and a pair of speakers with dual 6.5" woofers to give you plenty of sound to enjoy them with. Plus, you can mix sound from your game system with sound from the CD player or radio to customize your gaming experience.

A shelf system in three parts

Before the turn of the century, a stereo shelf-system meant a CD player, a tape deck, radio tuner and a pair of speakers. Now that we find ourselves in the future, weâ€™ve seen technology advance a bit. The Sony LBTZX66i still has the CD player (although now you can play CDs that youâ€™ve burned yourself, or that just have MP3 files on them), and it still has the radio tuner built in for AM/FM stations (with up to 30 presets), but that tape deck has gone the way of the 8-track, home organs, and hiring personal musicians. Now, weâ€™ve got a dock thatâ€™s been Made for iPod, which is like having a tape deck, but itâ€™s digital, generally smaller, less of a hassle to rewind, and holds a whole lot more music. Oh, and it automatically charges a compatible iPod while youâ€™re using it with the system, so when youâ€™ve finished listening to your tunes and are ready to go, you donâ€™t have to wonder whether you switched in a fresh set of batteries and if you were playing on side â€œAâ€� or side â€œB.â€�

More power to you

Itâ€™s not something we like to talk about, but some shelf systems have a problem with . . . well, to put it bluntly, power output. Itâ€™s not that they donâ€™t sound good, or try really hard, but when youâ€™re listening to music, or even routing TV sound through the A/V input to give it that little boost, sometimes you just want a little more power. The LBTZX66i provides a whopping 580 watts of total power for your listening enjoyment, splitting it between the large speaker pair, each of which sports dual 6.5â€� cone woofers, and 1â€� tweeters. Positioning the speakers is easy too, as the provided speaker wires stretch out to 3M, so you can put the speakers where you want them to be, to provide the best sound spread possible for your room.

An unlikely mix

A lot of great mixes arenâ€™t really obvious at first glance: chocolate and chili; books and handhelds; 19th Century romance novels and modern day horror memes. Sony has hit on another one, getting some gaming into your shelf system, with their Game Sync Mixing. By using the front A/V input for your game system, you can play a CD or use the Tuner at the same time as you game, getting all the sound effects you need to keep on playing, while mixing in your own musical score. You can even adjust how much mixing happens by using the low, medium, and high settings to determine if you want a little video game and a lot of music, or vice-versa.

This stereo is exactly what I wanted. Its loud and a beautiful piece of equipment. You barely have to turn it up to feel the bass. One thing is that it is NOT a small stereo. It will not fit on your shelf. The box it comes in is about 4 tall by 3 wide. Its just amazing and I highly recommend it if you want a bumpin stereo

Wow! This unit is awesome. I had looked at the reviews and thought,we will see, they were right. The unit has BIG sound. Bought it for a graduation gift for my Daughter and floored her, shes excited to crank some tunes. This is by far the best sound system on the market. I was skeptical about the big price tag, but was presently surprised by the sound quality and loudness. I shopped for a stereo that could fill a large shop with great sound and found it with this system. Thats not how this story starts though. When this stereo first arrived I unpacked it and set it up. I listened to it for a couple of hours and began to notice a definite cracking or popping noise coming from one of the subwoofers. Naturally I was not pleased with this so I called VANNS and explained what it was doing and also explained that my children destroyed the packing material about 5 minutes after I unpacked it so how could I send this huge system back? The customer service agent suggested I order a new system and when it arrives just place the original system in the box and send it back to recieve a refund. So thats what I did and I waited for the replacement system to arrive. The day after placing this second order the mysterious sound the subwoofer was making seemed to vanish. I listened for a week before the replacement system arrived and could no longer detect any abnormal sound from the speaker. I called VANNS back and explained the situation suggesting that I just return the replacement system since the original one worked just fine after all. VANNS sent UPS back to my house and picked it up and did not charge me any kind of re-stocking fee or shipping charges of any kind. I dont think you can beat that kind of customer service. As far as the stereo system is concerned I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. I cant give it 5 stars for the following reasons It sounds great and is very loud but it will slightly distort when you set the volume higher than 22. It goes up to 30. Understand that I listen at a volume of about 12 in normal circumstances but when I want to blast the neighboring businesses you must go to at least 20. The orangish amber color material used on the display and ipod docking area seems to scratch extremely easy. Just wiping fingerprints off with a cotton rag left small scuff marks on it that wont come off. The EQ only has 3 adjustments Low, Mid, and High. In order to connect my computer I had to buy a $10 cable from Radio Shack that converted RCA connectors to a male headphone jack. All in all I am very please with the overall package. It would be hard to find a flawless system without spending BIG$$$ It rocks my ipod out and sounds awesome. It works with my iphone and my 1st generation ipod as well. I would recommend this system for its value and definately recommend VANNS for their superior customer service!

The quality of the sound on this stereo is awesome, good bass and just good overall. We love it. It is easy to use. Even our teenage grandson likes it because of the iPod dock. When we arent listening to music, he parks his iPod and enjoys it. We are very pleased.

Wow. Big sound . I bought this to replace a previous sony micro shelf system with 5 disc changer. The sound is great the features far more than I could hope for. My only hang up is that is big. When shopping I found that they seem to no longer make a true micro shelf system with 5 disc.My last one hardly took up any space. this one has better sound by far and tons of great features but be ready to make a little room for it.
