Better than expected Sony ICF-CD553RM

I searched all over the place for an under counter cd player for the kitchen. Got pretty well scared away by a plethora of terrible reviews for all that I found, including several Sony products. Finally found this machine with a pretty high rating, so I chanced it and purchased one.

Well, this little beauty arrived with easy instructions and adjustable spacers to go along with a clear template for installation. I had zero problems or puzzles with the whole mounting experience. Everything including the cord and antenna just tucked away neatly, showing only a clean appearance under the cabinet.

Controls are clear and clean, two fm bands, an am band, tv band and weather band round out the reception items. Very good reception for an item that must remain stationary. CD performance is absolutely great! With the Mega Bass and Mega Expand controls, you can make it sound the way you want. Of course, its short on what you would get with a graphic equalizer, but hey, this is a kitchen clock radio that plays CDs very well. We couldnt be more pleased with the purchase.

The sound and overall quality seems a lot better than those I checked out at a lot of big box stores. The Sony name was, I confess, a big draw. If you are in the kitchen a lot, or what the heck, if it is hung in a bedroom or bathroom, and you are not a sound aficionado, this little outfit will serve you well, I think. Now, you can only load one CD at a time, but after all, the thing is hardly noticeable in your space.

I would be careful about the CD drawer. By the nature of this machine, it has to be thin. The CD must lightly snap onto the tray through the hole. If you just slap it on there, it will break, no doubt! Just take the CD in one hand and hold the bottom of the drawer in the other so that the small force of your CD insertion will not stress the drawer. Youll see the common sense of this when you get one.

So, for price, brand, ease of set-up, versatility and really decent sound, I highly recommend the Sony ICF-CD553RM.

What a great sound!!! It was great receiving all the emails on our status of the order..and we received it as promised..great follow-up and answers to our queries when we called Vann's. We ordered the under-the-counter radiocd player for the bathroom, but we tried it out in our kitchen first before installing..and I have been using it here...guess the decision is do we want another one in the kitchen too!!!! This is a great unit..sound is terrific...easy to use and program...the remote comes in handy... I like the options and the sound is just great... You will enjoy this product!!!

I love my kitchen radio! I couldn't have done better anywhere else! I wish I had a cabinet in my bathroom to put another one! My order was received the exact day I was given. It arrived in perfect condition.

I liked receiving the emails on my order, letting me know when it was processed and shipped.

I'll definitely order from Vann's again when I needwant something. It's nice to know I can order something and not have to worry about anything. They have earned my trust!

My kitchen radio fits so perfect under the cabinet, it looks custom made. It was easy to install, not taking long at all. The CD player sounds out of this world! I've never had one with a TV or weather channel on it. That's a great feature. I mainly wanted it so that I could listen to my favorite radio station while preparing dinner or lunch.

Of course, my husband didn't think I really 'needed' it, but has admitted that it was a good idea now. He's using it just as much as I am! He did tell me that if I was going to buy one, I couldn't go wrong with a Sony.

The remote will never get lost because of the magnet on the back of it. It stays on the refrigerator. I haven't used the message feature yet, but I'm sure in time I will find it useful. Another great thing I like is the clock and it being lit up at all times. I don't have to press a button or anything to get it to light up. It's always easy to see.

I'd like to thank Vann's for being out there to order safely from! Quality and trust is so important on the internet. I'm glad I've found a place to order a variety of different items.

Great unit. easy to install and operate. has a great little remote. The only negative is that when listening to a cd it goes to a default track 01 when the unit is powered off. However, there is a way around this problem and that is to put the cd on pause and do not power off.
