Purchased to replace an aging Sony carousel player that had begun to skip. There are only a limited number of these jukebox type CD players available, so checked the reviews and specs and ordered the Pioneer since over many years I have had good service from the brand even though its now under different ownership, as are many other legacy name-brands.
Unit was simple to set up, and works as advertised. I have two quibbles - one current and one potential
A. The remotes markings are dark ink on dark plastic. Ergonomically its a major pain unless you hold it under a light source. A backlit remote would have been nice, but at least the designers could have used bright white ink for the markings.
B. The sliding access door works fine - for now. And it may last forever - but its an unnecessary gimmick, considering its purpose. A simple spring-loaded manual Open latch would have been cheaper and quite possibly less prone to malfunction. Hope I can eat those words years from now!

What an awesome machine. I have been holding off for years and now very glad I took the plunge to organize my CD library within 1 machine.
No more searching, jewel cases, etc. ...Search for a title and play!
Couple this capacity with the unprecedented level of service and support from Vanns Home
run!
I would certainly recommend to a friend..

An excellent product that made a wonderful surprise birrthday gift for my husband. It replaced his Technics 100 disc cd player. The Pioneer was easy to set up and has performed well. Very pleased with the product and as always the excellent service, shipping and pricing at Vanns. Love the tax free feature as sales tax in our area is 10 per cent and this makes a very nice savings. Vanns is my first choice for electronics!

My old Pioneer 25 disc player for over a year would play purchased cds but would skip on some of the cds I made myself! I took a chance that the laser was extremely dirty or worn out weak or my cds were degrading with time! Hoping this would solve the problem!! I could not listen to the music because I found myself just waiting for the skip!
Problem solved after playing about 30 cds I made not one skip , Only one problem and its a good one,, How to catagorize this many cds and record remember where they are!!
Very good , friendly customer service ,would do again and just wish I had done this earlier!

The main feature I like which puts this above Sony is the ability to search and store data on CDs not only by Title, but also by Artist. Although it is a huge pain to go through and create all the artisttitle information - its easier to find the CD you want in the end. I create CD Text duplicates of all my CDs and load them into this changer the originals stay in their cases so they can be taken on trips, etc.. I then have the ability to see every song, artist, and album title. CDText is a Godsend!
The only thing bad about this product is the un-ergonomic and un-usable completely black remote control brick. You can solve this problem by using a Universal Remote which I assume most serious audiophiles will want to use anyway. I still give the changer 5 stars because I dont believe the bad remote is that big of a deal for most people.

Ive been using this player for about 3-4 weeks. It was purchased to replace an 11 year old Sony 51-disk player that finally gave out after being used 10-12 hours per day, 6 days per week, for its entire life.
The first thing I noted about this unit was its ease of use - it has very clear instructions for setting it up and getting started, and all controls are intuitive and logical.
Connected to the amplifier via RCA plugs like the Sony, the volume was noticeably quieter than the Sony. Just doesnt put out as strong a signal, I guess - in any event, simply solved by setting the volume knob a little higher.
The first oddity is that, when turned on and off via a switched outlet on the amplifier, when you turn the amp on the CD player spends a long time moving the current disk out of playing position and thinking before you can start playing a disk. You just have to wait for the process to finish before you can start playing music. If you turn it off via its own power switch, it does all this upon being switched off, so it is ready to go when you turn it on again. This delay was annoying, so we decided to plug it into a live outlet - the inconvenience of needing to turn two power switches on and off is less than the inconvenience of waiting for the machine every time you turn it on.
The second oddity is that it carefully checks empty slots one at a time rather than moving to the next available disk. I put the 51 discs from the previous player in, leaving 250 slots open, fired it up, and when I checked to see why there was a *long* silence, the player was moving a phantom disc into playing position, declaring No Disc, moving the phantom disc out, moving the next phantom disc in, declaring No Disc, etc - at a rate of about 3 slots per minute. Definitely not a set-it-and-forget-it machine - at that rate we would have over 80 minutes of silence before disc one would start playing!
These quirks aside, it has played very reliably so far for several weeks on the same workhorse schedule, and with the volume turned up a bit it sounds fine. It is used for background music, so audiophile quality is not required. I am hoping that it will give us as good service as the Sony.

Owned 2 months now. What an awesome piece of electronics!! Besides my Pioneer Elite receiver, this is by far the best addition to my stereo system I have made. Now I can play pool in my entertainment room and not have to tend to the music, except to load a new CD or, I can just let it play for days on end. I listen to far more music now that I dont have to sift through the rows of music. Instead I created a list and laminated it where it sets on my coffee table. All I do now is choose a CD, dial in a number and I have what I want, super fast. So far I have had no problems with loading or the system hanging up. Planning a list before you start loading makes having this system a whole lot more user friendly. The only negative is the system does not have a way to just skip to the next CD in the system without punching in the next number. This is a very minor inconvenience.

The Pioneer 301 CD Player performs better than I had expected after reading reviews citing poor sound reproduction. I am running it through a high-end Denon AV unit and some expensive speakers, and the sound quality is crystal clear through the normal red and white cables that came with the unit.
Its very easy to load smooth and precise in picking CDs in both Direct and Random modes. The physical motion of the tray is soundless. Remote control works well.
Downside The visual display showing what mode the unit is in, is microscopic and cannot be read beyond 20 away. The remote is poorly configured with very little contrast in the labelling of the buttons, all of which are the same size. You need a bright light to discern the functions of the buttons. But these are mere quibbles.
BTW, its essential to maintain a complete listing of titles and artists in a spreadsheet since theres no way of identifying CDs without playing each one.

The system is simple to use, my wife loves the single disc loader and I love the storage capacity. Both of us love the intuitive controls that puts every CD within reach in seconds.
The only drawback to the unit is the time it takes to load it. I highly recommend developing a catalog system spreadsheet or something well in advance, check it twice, and start loading the CDs in some order that you can live with. The time required to move 50 or more disc because you realize you failed to leave enough room for a 2 disc set or a box set containing 4-5 CDs for that matter is consuming.
We have not tried CD-R or CD-RW disc yet so I cant verify whether or not it works as advertised in this arena. Based on my experience so far, I have no reason to doubt it will play these disc admirably.
In a nutshell - excellent unit, high capacity, fast access, and easy to use. Now, if my reciever were only so simple, I would be happy indeed.

I don't buy houses, cars, TV's, or even consider getting married without a great deal of thought and research. Well, I did my due deligence with my purchase of the Pioneer PDF-1009 CD changer and couldn't be more pleased with my choice of changers as well as Vanns. My last changer bit the dust recently and I knew that a 5-disc changer wasn't going to cut it after acquiring over 200 CD's over the last several years. Cabinet space and lack of organization gave me extra incentive to jump a bit higher and go for the 301 CD Pioneer unit. I've now reclaimed all that cabinet space crowded by the jewel cases in those mini-CD cabinets. I have my entire collection on the Pioneer carousel with finger-tip control for any genre or composer desired. The whole process of purchasing with Vanns was also a treat. The first person to answer the phone was happy to provide answers to my technical questions and did not pass me off to another department or refer me back to the website when I decided to make the purchase. The CD-changer was in stock, my order was processed the same day, and I received the changer within the week with nary a penny extra for shipping, handling, or sales tax. I had a momemtary thought about purchasing at another internet site at a slightly lower price, but I really did not want to purchase from a non-authorized dealer then worry about all the 'what-ifs', the S & H fees, etc. Don't hesitate to check out this Pioneer CD-changer if you have a cluttered audio collection and your sweetie is hinting about getting your life or CD collection more organized. 301 jewel cases can take up an awful lot of space and sliding each CD vertically into the revolving tray is a terrific idea - kudos to Pioneer and to Vanns!!
P.S. My first wife is a winner too!
