Precision you can hear
Drawing upon over 70 years of audio innovation, the VSX line of receivers uses a discrete A/B amplifier design with Advanced Direct Energy Amplifiers for up to 7.1 channels of surround sound, redefining the traditional limitations of home theater and promising precise sonic reproduction. Delivering the most remarkable surround sound technology available today, the VSX-919AH-K is a testament to pristine sound and pure digital enjoyment. Built with Advanced Direct Energy Power Amplifiers, Advanced MCACC room calibration with a 9-band Symmetric EQ, Phase Control, Advanced Sound Retriever, Auto Level Volume Control, and 14 Advanced Surround Mode options — this unbelievably powerful receiver delivers more ways to experience home theater sound than previously believed possible.
Amplified PHAT-II quality
Additionally, the VSX Pioneer line of receivers uses Pioneer Hybrid Amplifier Technology II (PHAT-II) amplifiers designed for high-power performance that exceeds ordinary capabilities. This newly developed PHAT-II power module makes the feedback loop smaller and minimizes influences from noise sources. Within the amplifier are new output transistors that have a lower base-capacitor impedance to achieve a wider range for a high current drive stage. It also maintains the correct bias levels regardless of fluctuating temperatures, allowing for high power with minimal Total Harmonic Distortion, resulting in a stunning performance at nearly any volume level.
Auto calibration means performance-centric
To achieve optimal audio performance, your speaker output needs to be fine-tuned to the listening room. Room size and shape, floor and wall textures, the quality and relative size of your speakers; all of these factors affect performance. Pioneer has a solution. The VSX-919AH-K offers the most precise acoustic calibration available without professional support. It's called the Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System, or MCACC, and it works in any room regardless of shape or size. Automatic MCACC set-up uses a microphone to monitor a room's acoustic environment, then determines the size and number of speakers, as well as channel level and listener-to-speaker distances. The VSX-919AH-K even has a 9-band equalizer with Symmetric EQ for more precise adjustment. With MCACC, you can have the ultimate home entertainment system; one that's customized for your own home.
Surrounded by pristine sound
In addition to the more traditional surround sound formats, the VSX-919AH-K offers DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD surround sound decoders. Pioneer's exclusive DSP technology lets you experience movies and music as never before. Phase Control Bass Management assures that low frequency signals arrive at the listening position in sync with the other 7.1 audio channels. There are 14 Advanced Surround modes, including Front Stage Surround Advance, which lets you enjoy the full benefits of surround sound with all five speakers at the front of the room. Perfect listening areas with limited space. Virtual Surround Back mode deepens and broadens the sound stage by creating a phantom rear surround effect without using a surround back speaker. Enjoy all this high-quality entertainment in 120-watt per channel surround sound, across as many as seven speakers. With this receiver at the center of your system, there's virtually no limit to your entertainment possibilities.
Quality connections
Four HDMI connections (3 in, 1 out - repeater) make A/V input switching easy. Pioneer's 0 to 400ms HDMI Lip Sync compensates for differing audio and video signal processing rates to deliver the picture and sound simultaneously. To enjoy cinema-quality sound, just connect a Pioneer DVD player and surround system speakers and you're ready. For CD-R/RW, MD, and other recording media, this receiver has one digital coaxial and two optical audio inputs. You also get two component video inputs and one output to maintain the signal integrity from such digital sources as DVD and DTV. On the VSX-919AH-K's front panel, you'll find an A/V connection, the USB iPod DIRECT input, and a minijack input that's used for other portable music players as well as for the MCACC calibration microphone.
SIRIUS-radio ready
To hear SIRIUS you'll need the optional SiriusConnect Home tuner (not included). Check sirius.com to see which service has your favorite sports coverage and personalities, and for the hardware to make it happen. You also have to subscribe to either or both services, activation and subscription fees apply (subscriptions not included).
Receiver, or giver?
Pioneer's VSX-919AH-K may be called a receiver; but really, it's a giver. It embraces your every component without prejudice. Flat panel high definition televisions, Blu-ray and DVD players, video game consoles, surround sound speakers, iPods, and SIRIUS Satellite Radio are all welcomed harmoniously, instantaneously. You won't just be entertained, you'll be transported; your senses treated to stimuli they haven't experienced before. Control all this power at your command, often with just a single push of a button. And if this isn't impressive enough, watch as Pioneer's receivers calibrate themselves to their environment automatically with MCACC, the Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System, for the best audio experience possible. It's a performance no other receiver in the world can follow.
Pioneer innovation, quality, and lifestyle
Pioneer is a company full of engineers who have difficulty accepting the words it can't be done. Frequently, industry experts say something is impossible, only to have Pioneer prove them wrong. So when everyone said that a vehicle was too harsh an environment for the sensitive laser needed to play CDs, Pioneer created the world's first in-car CD player. Pioneer had a hand in creating the new Blu-ray Disc format to play movies at home in HD or to record huge volumes of data from your computer. In an era when computers are out of date as soon as you buy them and some A/V components are easier to replace than to repair, Pioneer takes pride in developing products that last. Pioneer manufactures most of their products directly; so when your component comes from a Pioneer factory, you know it's survived the most rigorous quality assurance testing. It's one thing to create nifty new gadgets, but consumers know that nifty is not the same as useful. Pioneer listens when consumers talk about the products they want to buy, and then does its best to make products that exceed your expectations.

I have had this reciever for almost 2 weeks. It is a bit of a challenge to set up. There are many options and the manual refers you back and forth from page to page. However the manual is very thorough. The actual setup is pretty straight forward. You plug the microphone in and let the receiver do its thing. When finished it has compensated for speaker distances, room acoustics, speaker sizes. This is a great sounding receiver. Well worth the bit of angst in setting it up. At first I thought I had a lemon because I was turning it up to -25db to hear any sound but the volume isnt linear. Once you get to -30 it starts cranking out the volume. I wasnt use to that and thought I was pushing alot of power through my speakers. I talked to Pioneer and they said this is very normal. I am very pleased with this receiver. The sound effects are endless. I also want to say that Vanns is a great place to do business. They were concerned about my happiness with the product I purchased and offered to replace or exchange if I was unhappy in any way. Most helpful and genuine in the way they do business. I highly recommend this receiver for the money. I had been a big JVC fan for quite awhile but I think Pioneer is onto something. The remote works with every device I own and the programming is simple and straight froward. I also think that Vanns is the place to shop if you want good service and customer satisfaction. I have been treated so well by them. I will always shop here for my electronics.

What an awesome unit! I have not upgraded my surround receiveer for several years and now I am sooooo glad I did! The sound is incredible! Set up takes some time, but if you follow the directions its not too bad. This unit also takes my older analog video devices and upconverts them to HDMI! This upgrade was a must for my newer TV as it could not handle the older analog inputs so I am very happy this one does the job. I can now still use my older equipment such as my Laserdisk Player- yeah I know they are dead- and still get a great picture and sound.

Ive had this receiver for about three months now and I can only think of good things to say. This is also the first time Ive ever set up a real home theater system so Ill have to admit my own newbie status.
After copious amounts of research I finally decided to go with the 919 after learning that the only difference between this one and the 1019 was one less HDMI port in other words, the innards were all the same. After getting all of the required cables and wires, I hooked it up to my 42in Panasonic tv, Energy Take Classic speakers Sub, HD cable box, and a Sony DVD player. I was surprised at just how little set up was required on my part since everything was working fine right off the bat. The MCACC calibration quickly set up all of the detailed speaker settings and tweaked the audio for the room. If you want to jump in and fine tune any of these settings it is really easy to do since the on screen menus are pretty well laid out and are easy to navigate.
Then it was time to start listening. Now, the speakers were just as new to me as the stereo so I cant really say who should get the performance credit, but I was blown away. I put in Master and Commander on DVD and every creak of the ships hull appeared with crystal clarity. Same can be said for listening to music. While the iPod functionality was great it is, my favorite part is that if you want you can plug in the iPod through the usb port and still control things via the iPod rather than having to use the remote. I tested this with an iPhone 3GS and an iPod classic, the real joy was in listening to CDs. Its like having a whole new music collection.
The only places where I would take points off are for the remote, the instruction manual, and how it seems to make commercials louder Ill go into more detail in a second. The remote is very poorly laid out with so many buttons you would think it could control everything in your house. None of it is back-lit, and its damn near impossible to get to the onscreen menus again, once you get to the menus its no problem. This problem was all solved with a Logitech Harmony remote which I would highly recommend.
For some reason, commercials seem louder than they used be in comparison to whatever program happens to be buried under all those ads. Its not a major problem, its just kind of strange and I have not found a real work around for it other than turning the volume down a little bit.
Over all, I cant recommend this product enough. The sounds is great, it looks really good in my entertainment center, and the value is just outstanding.

Ordering was easy. Purchased threw Amazon. There was no shipping information given on Amazon after the order. However when I contacted Vanns, I did receive the tracking number promptly. I love the reciever. Its a great price for a great product. Sound is good. The only issue is the instruction manual is not set up for the novice person So be ready to read and re-read the info inside for advanced configurations. All and all I was able to figure it out and I love the receiver.

The receiver is great. I have it paired with two Polk Audio Monitor series speakers and a Polk audio 12 subwoofer. I mainly listen to ClassicalInstrumental, and the stereo is hooked up to our main television.
The unit needs air circulating around it. It gets hot, but thats expected.
Shipping was fast, Vanns is easy to deal with, highly recommended A

This system is a replacement for another ancient Pioneer system and Im glad I stuck with them this new 919 is great sounding and a great picture. It has knock your socks off ability!
Love the Sirius, ipod, two zones and DVR features. Vanns is great to deal with, very helpful and fast shipping. Employee ownership and concern fpr the customer really shows through.
