I have been upgrading my system over the years, and was using in the end an HK AVR-8000 for a prepro, separate Adcom 565 Monoblocks and Infinity Kappa 600 speakers in 5.1 mode. I always felt something was missing. I have swithed back and forth between my Denon 4308ci used as a prepro too, and that was not the problem. Many speaker configs, Used Klisch RP-5s, Mirage OMG-15s, and always came back to the Kappa 600s. BUT, there was just not an extrordinary quality that I expected. I have great 4 lead wires, nice connectors, not the silly overpriced consumer ripoff stuff, a very high end power conditioner, dual 20 amp wall sockets. I am not a true snobish audiophile, but I have done some homework.
Enter the AV-7005 WOW! This has the most detail, crisp unasaulting brilliance I coulld hope for. My Kappa 600s have found their salvation. I always liked the speakers, but now I just Wow whenever I hear my system. I know my apps make a big difference and the sound I have would not be possible with out them, but they could not reach the potential with out the Marantz. This by far was the finishing touch, or maybe should have been a bit I picked up sooner. Would have saved my from buying 4 high recievers over the last 5 years. I think if you are dedicated enough to own or plan to own separate amps or a multi-channel amp, then this is about the best value in the industry. The specs are standing with 5 to 10 thousand dollar units. The sound quality and the video processing is in my opinion, amazing and the best I have experienced. I have been to a few hifi stores to audition the equipement they have. Searching mostly for ideas and tips I think, but always ended up walking out thinking, My system sounds better than that. That was before the Marantz too. But this unit is nice looking, very powerfull looking and modern. I love the fact that the blue light goes out if you want. Also, If the prepro is powered off, the hdmi still goes through the unit and can provide audio and video to my tv. This is important to me because sometimes I want to just watch a documentary or a old movie and dont want to switch on an off 5 amps, ect. It is a feature all my recievers never had. If the unit was off, the hdmi was dead to the tv. Not now, if the unit is off, the audio and video still route to the tv. Not a selling point really, but great for me. If you buy this, I am sure you will enjoy its quality, versatility and value. The remote is backlit and is a learning remote as well, so you can run many devices from it.

After listening to the Marantz AV7005 I would closely compare it to the Marantz AV9000 it replaced with the added bonus of HDMI. The things i have noticed between the two is that the signal to noise ratio is greatly improved in the AV7005, it is dead quiet with the volume at -10 and all I hear is the singer as if she is in the room with me, no types of induced noise with this pre-amp processor. The look of this unit is great and the fit and finish is nice, but I would have to say I was disappointed in the qualityfeel of the volume and input knobs in comparison to the Marantz AV9000 which are phenomenal. The buttons feel more like my Pioneer VSX-920, but overall I plan on using my remote most of the time anyway so I would still rate it 5 stars out of 5 stars as you will not find a more quality piece like this one for even twice its price. Marantz has done it again. What even makes this purchased better is I bought it from Vanns. Josh was great to deal with and even followed up via phone call to see how I liked my Marantz AV7005. Thank you Vanns and thank you Josh .

My Lexicon MC-1 preamp was starting to become outdated with the newer technology out. I went searching for a replacement and decided to give the Marantz AV7005 a try. I didn’t want to spend a mint like I did on the Lexicon just to have to replace again. I have a serious set up which includes 7 Magnepan speakers and an 18 inch Velodyne sub. I’m pushing the speakers with a Parasound Halo A51 5 channel amp and a pair of Aragon Palladium monoblocks. My biggest fear was to lose sound quality with a preamp costing so much less. I can tell you that there was no audible loss at all!!! This is an incredible preamp. My first awesome experience was the ability to reduce my cables. I now only have HDMI connections to my 61 plasma, cable box with FiOS, Oppo DVD player and balanced interconnects to all amps and sub. The cables management never looks so good. Now the fun stuff - The AV7005 can run airplay from Apple. This allows you to wirelessly transmit your itunes library over to your receiver all for $50 bucks. The receiver also have Pandora, HD radio and I have a Logitech Squeezebox receiver so I now have more digital music that I could have possibly needed. If you are in the market for a fantastic preamp which is up to date with all the modern capabilities and sounds like a $10K preamp, then look no further. The cherry on the cake was that I got an incredible deal from Vanns.
