Receiver of respect
Denon's AVR4310CI breaks new ground for Denon in the A/V receiver category. Its heart and soul is all Denon for the home theater enthusiast. It features Audyssey's newest technology, Dynamic Surround Expansions, boasts 6 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs, and has discrete iPod and USB player inputs. The AVR4310CI also pushes the envelope of connectivity with an Ethernet port that provides for unprecedented convergence flexibilities. Add to that XM Satellite Radio functionality and analog-to-HDMI video conversion, with video scaling to streamline video switching and to provide for maximum content quality for every source in your system.
Audyssey DSX enhances the surround sound field
Audyssey's newest technology, Dynamic Surround Expansion, is a scalable system that can adapt to the practical needs of the user. Dynamic Surround Expansion provides a more enveloping soundstage by deriving front height or front wide width channels for the most immersive surround sound experience. The first level of surround stage enhancement comes from adding the Wide channels. The second level comes from adding the Height channels. DSX automatically reconfigures its processing to optimize surround rendering over any number of available speakers beyond 5.1. The result is an incredibly natural soundscape with an immersive quality.
Connect and control your iPod
The AVR4310CI provides two terminals for connecting your iPod: one is located behind the trap door on the front panel and the other is on the back panel. A USB terminal that lets you connect your USB-compatible portable music player is provided behind the trap door on the front panel. You can connect the player to this terminal and play the MP3 or WMA (Windows Media) files directly through your AVR4310CI system.
Video up/down conversion
The AVR4310CI includes a video up/down conversion function that allows the unit to be connected to the video monitor via a single cable regardless of the video input signal's format as follows: 1) Composite video signals are converted to HDMI, component video, and S-video; 2) S-video signals are converted to HDMI, component video and composite video; 3) Component video signals are converted to HDMI, composite video and S-video (output signal up-converted to HDMI retains the resolution of the input signal). The AVR4310CI uses a time base corrector (TBC) in converting composite video and S-video signals to component video to suppress jitter in the video signal during playback.
Video DAC and component switching
A high-speed, high-accuracy 12-bit/216 MHz video DAC is used in the video circuitry for component video, S-video, and composite video signals. This DAC enhances the reproducibility of delicate-level video signals, allowing high-definition video to be played back with greater fidelity to the original images. In addition, noise shaped video (NSV) technology improves video S/N for greater signal linearity. The AVR4310CI is equipped with three sets of component video inputs and one output. These component video circuits achieve sharp HDTV video quality in a frequency range up to 100 MHz.
Powerful converters
Three of the latest 32-bit floating point DSPs are used in the AVR4310CI for decoding. The latest high-accuracy 24-bit/192-kHz D/A converter has been employed for the audio DAC, while a high-performance A/D converter of 24-bit/192-kHz quality has been used to significantly boost S/N and dynamic range. The AVR4310CI also utilizes 'AL24 Processing Plus', the latest technology for high sound quality giving you the most bang for your buck available in an audio system. Package all that with DENON Link (enabling high-speed, high-grade digital signal transmission), and a large-output power amp section and power supply configuration for stable high-power output, and you're ready to rock 'n roll.
Getting the best sound
A new auto set-up and Room EQ, featuring MultEQ from Audyssey, gives you overall listening area support using the supplied microphone. You'll quickly get just the right set up for your listening area. With configurable center, surround and surround back amplifiers, you have some options for multi-room use. For example, you could enjoy 5.1-channel theater sound in the main room and a monaural environment in a second and third room. The AVR4310CI also provides full support for the most advanced surround playback formats. Additionally, you get support for Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic IIZ and IIx, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6 and HDCD. The AVR4310CI is also XM Satellite ready with an optional "connect and play" antenna. Of course, you also need a subscription to XM services.
Connectivity/Expandability
The AVR4310CI is equipped with an Ethernet port that lets you build various types of network environments. You can use these network environments to take advantage of three new home audio network functions. The Audio Media Client function lets you stream audio over the network from a Music Server. This network connection uses two standard technologies: The Designed to DLNA (DLNA: Digital Living Network Alliance) Guidelines, and Windows Media Connect. Supported audio formats are MP3, WAV (LPCM), and WMA. Internet Radio is a system that lets you hear radio broadcasts from stations on the Internet. A wide variety of stations, both large and small and some which are operated by individuals, can be found on the Internet. Until now, radio stations could only be heard if you were within listening range of their radio waves, but with Internet Radio, you can listen to broadcasts from all over the world. The list of stations that the AVR4310CI uses comes from the vTuner radio station database that has been customized for Denon. Finally, A/V Receiver Network Setup (Web Control) lets you set up and control the A/V receiver over a network using Internet Explorer on a PC. The AVR4310CI's Ethernet port also supports serial controls that use Crestron and others.
New DDSC-digital
The new DDSC (Dynamic Discrete Surround Circuit)-Digital is a high-quality surround sound reproduction circuit designed for Denon, and forms the core of the design concept that Denon pursues for all its A/V amps: to faithfully reproduce the original intent of content producers. Denon has succeeded in developing a fully discrete design for the new DDSC-Digital in which high-performance ICs are used in independent blocks to form a signal processor that reproduces surround sound, and the discrete design ensures that all channels are endowed with identical response and quality of sound.

I have a 60 inch Pioneer Elite Pro-151FD. Some may disagree but it is the finest television ever made. The Denon 4310 makes it better. It improves the image! It upscales ordinary 1080i to 1080p so spectacularly that it makes regular HD television look like Blu-ray. It makes the colors richer, denser and more vivid. Forget the blacks it makes the whites just luminous. And it smoothes out the motion. And the wonderful, wonderful sound. I replaced a 2 year old Yamaha RX-V863, not the worlds greatest receiver but far from the worst. The improvement in the sound was startling. It is just beautiful. Clean, sweet, subtle, effortless and so comfortable. There is no weak spot. Soft, medium or loud, top to bottom, it just sings. For me with almost everything after a while I find some weakness. Somewhere that just falters a little, so that after a while theres always a little sore spot to go with the goodness. Not the 4310. It is just a pleasure for the ear. It is full, rich and soothing. I have upgraded the speakers twice since I got it. And it just delivers and delivers and delivers. And when you want big sound like home theatre, Avatar, Beethovens 9th sound, it says Ok hows that? Want more? Lets do more. It is powerful and it never feels like its trying. Just effortless. Clean, rich, beautiful and complete. I havent used the much ballyhooed Audyssey EQ yet. But those that have say it will sound better. The GUI interface is very, very nice. Its so easy to use that I have yet to read the manual thank goodness. That being said if this is your first AV receiver you will probably find it a bit daunting. And the 4310 does so many things that eventually I will have to try to get through it. Fortunately Denon has very good customer service and you can get to a knowledgeable, helpful person quickly. The remote is easy to use. An you dont have to point it! I would recommend reading some of the professional reviews before purchase. It sure helped me have some idea of what I was getting into. That being said the 4310 has way exceeded my expectations. This is a fine, fine piece of equipment. And since I dont care about 3D I got this at a great price. Theres a special kind of satisfaction when you put yourself out there and get an expensive piece of equipment only to find that youve hit a homerun and then some. One note the 1080p upscaling has to be turned on manually. That was my first call to Denon.

I purchased this unit from Vann's less than 2 weeks ago. This is a upgrade from my Denon 2808CI, I wanted more HDMI ports. The Denon 4310CI is a great receiver, with plenty of options, power, and the quality is second to none. I ordered this unit from Vann's on a Wednesday afternoon and it was at my door only two days later on Friday, You cannot ask for better service that that. Thank you Vann's!! . In comparison to the Denon 2808CI also a great AV receiver, the 4310CI sports a much improved OSDGUI that makes it a breeze to configure and fine tune. If you are looking for great quality and equally great performance at a super price, the 4310CI is for you!!

I previously owned a Denon 790 receiver and wanted to upgrade for more power and a few more features. The 4310ci meets those needs and more adding better video upscaling, AL24 processing on all audio channels and the additional front width option for surround.
The back panel is intimidating compared to the 790, but as long as you are using HDMI for your primary connections it is really no more complex to wire up and the graphical user interface is a massive improvement when setting up your connected audio and video equipment.
The 4310 also supports an on-screen overlay when interating with your equipment during everyday use which is a plus. Finally, you can trust Vanns for your purchase.
