Home theater fulfillment at a price you can afford
If you're looking for a budget-friendly A/V receiver that offers versatile connectivity and compatibility with the latest processing technology, Onkyo's TXSR507 has you covered. With four HDMI 1.3a inputs, it can accept up to four high-definition sources — from Blu-ray Disc to HD broadcasting to high definition games — and output them to your compatible HDTV. HDMI 1.3a also enables you to enjoy the pristine "lossless" audio of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, as well as secondary audio on Blu-ray Disc via DTS-HD Express. The TXSR507 comes with a suite of Audyssey surround-sound technologies to help tailor audio output to the unique dimensions of your entertainment space. Meanwhile, a new universal port makes it easy to incorporate an optional Onkyo Dock for the iPod or Onkyo HD Radio tuner into your system. With all this, plus four high-impact Game Modes and the ability to send different audio to two rooms simultaneously, the TXSR507 puts a huge amount of entertainment potential at your fingertips.
The HDMI you've been waiting for
The Onkyo TXSR507's four HDMI v1.3a video inputs provide an advanced interface for transporting high definition (HD) video with Deep-Color capability including 1080p content from Blu-ray players, HD set-top boxes, and the latest generation of gaming consoles; what's more, all multichannel audio, from bit-for-bit streams to standard Dolby Digital, can be input via HDMI for processing on the TXSR507. In addition to its four HDMI inputs, the TXSR507 includes two HD bandwidth switching component video and four composite video inputs to accommodate other sources. There are a total of four digital audio inputs, as well as six analog audio inputs, 5.1-channel multichannel inputs, and powered Zone 2 outputs.
Get in the zone
The TXSR507 features Onkyo's Powered Zone 2 capability, which can be used to power stereo speakers in a second room while listening to 5.1-channel sound in the main zone thanks to a dedicated set of Zone 2 L/R speaker terminals. The receiver is capable of processing separate multichannel and stereo sources simultaneously for the main and second zone, or processing a single source for both. There's also a Zone 2 pre-out that can be used in conjunction with a dedicated zone amplifier or receiver. Finally, for those with premium bi-ampable loudspeakers, where the bass and midrange/treble drivers are each driven by separate amplifiers, the rear surround channels can be reconfigured for this more powerful operating mode.
Iliad and Audyssey 2EQ/Dynamic EQ
With unquestionably no relation to Homer's epic poems of the Trojan War, Audyssey 2EQ automatic speaker calibration provides remarkable improvements in performance by calibrating the home theater system to its acoustical environment. With this system, the included calibration microphone is used to analyze the system's acoustical output at three unique positions in the listening area. By taking readings in two different locations in the theater room, with the microphone placed at the listening positions, the receiver sends test signals to each speaker in turn, then uses the input from the microphone to adjust channel level and time delay settings for each speaker. And, as if that weren't enough, the TXSR507 is among the first receivers ever to employ Audyssey's Dynamic EQ algorithm, which adds moment-by-moment refinement to the receiver's frequency response and surround levels in order to compensate for volume-dependent deterioration in listening, particularly at low volume levels. When used in combination with the Audyssey 2EQ system, this feature tailors the receiver's output to correct for room acoustics, listening position, and playback-level distortions, delivering an overall experience that is a much closer match to what the audio production engineers originally intended.
Help for compressed music files
The TXSR507 is in the second generation of receivers to implement Onkyo's Music Optimizer technology, which improves the quality of compressed audio such as MP3 and AAC encoded digital music files. While these compressed audio formats sound quite acceptable over small headphones or PC speaker systems, when reproduced on a full-scale home theater system the loss of high-frequency information becomes much more apparent. The Music Optimizer employs sophisticated equalization and optimization algorithms to overcome these faults, and enhances the reproduction quality of digitally compressed music.
Get big sound from your little iPod
The TXSR507 features a proprietary universal port, located on the rear side of the unit, to which you can connect Onkyo's HD Radio Tuner or Dock for the iPod. The dock sends both video and audio signals through a single cable. Earlier versions of Onkyo's Dock for the iPod can be connected via our Remote Interactive (RI) system.
Included with purchase
Remote control with batteries, Audyssey 2EQ calibration microphone, FM antenna, Quick Guide, Instruction Manual.

The Onkyo 507B receiver did not dissapoint. Great combination of features and value. Good receiver with HDMI repeating. Works great with HDMI devices to pass audio and video on one HDMI cable. The Audyssey suite is a cool feature and the microphone makes set-up a breeze. The remote is nice and handy, and a good size. It is universal enough for me to be able to control my TV, cable box, Blu-ray etc with full access all from the Onkyo remote. I put the other remotes away and have not needed them since. Receiver does not run hot when powering large speakers for extended periods. I am happy with the product for the price. 5 out of 5.

I purchased this receiver to replace my older Onkyo receiver that did not have HDMI inputs and outputs. My previous receiver performed well and had no problems for about 7 years. But HDMI on my TV, PVR, and soon to have Blu-ray player required I upgrade. And wow!! This receiver is more of an upgrade than I ever thought. The rear layout of HDMI and other connections leaves nothing to be desired. It covers every connection type you may have along with the array of HDMI inputs. BUT, the best part to me is the Audyssey 2EQ speaker setup. I had just installed all new surround speakers to hook up to my new 507B. On my previous Onkyo receiver I had to input all the distances the speakers were from center and the size of the cones. You can still do this manually with the 507B, but Audyssey will do it all with the supplied microphone and equalize all the speakers for best performance from three seating positions you select. ALSO, since my wife does not like as much sound coming from the surround speaker on her side, you can manually adjust it to her tastes without affecting the other settings. I love the new sound and performance of the receiver. I was also happy that the 507B worked perfectly with my multi-unit programmable remote control. I highly recommend the 507B to anyone that wants great performance, all the bells and whistles, and all at a great price point.

I didnt have the money budgeted for new speakers when I was upgrading my 9 year old HTIB receiver, but this thing makes my old cheap speakers sound great. I cant wait to hear the sound from higher quality speakers. My DVDs, blurays, HD dish programs, and radio stations sound great. I now only need one HDMI cable running into my TV. I have my PC, PS3, and Dish Network box hooked to the receiver with HDMI, with one more HDMI jack to spare. IMHO, the only thing that could be better is if the remote control was a little easier to use, but thats getting picky. I am thoroughly satisfied!

I bought this to utilize the capabilities of my Sony HDTV 1080P and a new Oppo Blu-ray DVD player, the latter with SACD capabilities. I have 5 speakers plus a subwoofer for my family room. The best thing about this is the Audyssey set-up which only takes about 10 mintes and gives you a nicely balanced sound for your room geometry. Other set-ups were pretty easy, too. I did find the manual hard to follow at times with so many choices to make. The audio quality is the best we have heard from previous systems in our home, and works well with medium priced Polk speakers. I wish you could play the headphones without cutting out the main speakers but I have done a workaround on this with another older analog receiver.

Reason for Purchase
I was looking to setup a simple surround system that was better than the TV speakers with the option to upgrade down the road. After looking at Bose and some sound bar systems, I figured it would be more fun and I would receive better quality sound if I pieced together my own system. After reviewing many receivers I settled on the Onkyo TXSR507B based on featureprice performance.
Features that mattered
- FMAM Tuner - Nice to have a tuner built in so of course you can listen to music.
- 5.1 Channel Output - I only wanted a 3.1 system to start, and I like to have the option to upgrade components down the road.
- Automatic speaker setup with provided microphone.
- 80 watts per channel output
- And of course 4 HDMI inputs with HDMI pass-through.
User Interface
The interface is intuitive. The setup screens are easy to traverse and play with.
Hookup
Initial setup was easy, the manual provides decent diagrams and the connections on the back of the unit are well labeled. The speaker hookups are solid.
Problems
After setting everything up I noticed a clicking noise when the audio signal changed, such as changing the channel or if a commercial came on. After searching online I found that setting the default listening mode minimized the clicks.
Conclusion
I am completely with this purchase and would buy one again. Anyone looking for a solid receiver with lots of features and HDMI inputs, this model is a good candidate.

Vanns had someone on the online chat walk me through me research and eventually my purchase. The Onkyo 507B had everything I was looking for in a receiver. It has 4 pass through HDMI ports, which was more than I needed, but I can add another component at a later date. The remote handles every component I have, so I got rid of two other remotes. The set up was the best thing. The Audyssey feature measured the output of my surround sound and set the speaker volumes automatically. I have no complaints and was well worth the money.

I am extremely impressed with the capabilities of this receiver. It is versatile, and produces superb surround sound.
Plenty of inputs and outputs for the typical home user I have a Blue Ray player, a DVDVCR player, a satellite receiver, and a second receiver for my turntable and cassette deck, connected to a 40 TV using HDMI cables. It also accepts RGB and optical cable. The unit may be controlled and adjusted with the remote control and also by my satellite remote control, which Ive programmed to the Onkyo code.
I have also connected my analog receiver for cassette tapes and phonograph player.
The Zone 2 connections may be used to add a sixth and seventh speaker using the second receiver.
I have seven speakers connected five would be plenty, and they provide more than enough theater effect. There are many options for audio output stereo, mono, and Dolby, as well as multiple speaker for surround movie and audio effects, and several ways of filtering for sound adjustment such as late night and cinema.
All of the ports are programmable for the respective inputs, and are easy to set up.
I think a large percentage of the population would find this receiver perfectly suitable for home audio and video, and exceeding expectations.

I purchased this receiver with the intention of getting a slightly more featured introductory level receiver, and it delivered superbly. Right now Im using it with a pair of Klipsch B-2 stereo speakers, a C-1 center speaker, and a Klipsch KSW-10 subwoofer. Set up was a breeze with the included microphone the receiver sends test signals to all its output ports and figures out what speakers it has, their size and impedances and so on and configures the setup data. These configurations can be changed easily. When in use switching between inputs is simple, and a variety of listening modes lets the listener optimize how a given source sounds. This receiver overall has excellent performance and a good set of features for a very reasonable price. More expensive receivers will have a few more features and perhaps slightly better sound quality, but the value of this unit cannot be beat.

I purchased this receiver as an upgrade from the Sony Id been using, which predated HDMI and the advanced audio formats found on Blu-Ray. This Onkyo is an entry-level model, but it can handle everything I have to throw at it. I have it hooked via HDMI to a Sony Blu-Ray player and an Oppo universal DVD player. The Onkyo sounds great no matter what audio format Im playing CD, DTS, Dolby, DSD, or 24192 PCM. All of these are carried by HDMI from the players to the receiver. The only exception is HDCD, which Onkyo does not support but is processed by the Oppo. I know this is a relatively rare audiophile format, but since I have a few discs and a compatible player I want to take full advantage of it. I have to use a seperate analog connection, but its still a simpler setup overall compared to the 6-channel analog connections I had to use in the past.
Im not entirely happy with how the Onkyo handles 2-channel DSD signals multichannel is great and Dolby mono signals usually on DVDs of really old movies but these are minor concerns, rarely encountered.
I already had a 5.1 system, and this receiver is a good fit for it. It does not have speaker terminals for surround back speakers, but does have RCA pre-outs so that it can be used with a 7.1 system. Zone 2 pre-outs are also available, and while Im not taking advantage of this feature I know how I would use it in the future so Im glad its there.
I also have a VCR connected to my system, which I rarely use but still need it for a few things I own on VHS which have never been released on disc. I run the composite video through the Onkyo, although this model does not upscale analog video to transmit through he HDMI cable to the TV you need a more advanced model for that. So VHS still looks like I remember it looking, but Ive been very impressed by the sound quality on these old concert video tapes I own, and still can enjoy them on those grounds.
I dont own an iPod, but I do like to hook up my laptop to my system to listen to MP3 through my surround system. Compressed files cant compete with SACD, but the Onkyo still makes them quite enjoyable, and the Music Optimizer feature really does do a lot to take the edge off the compressed sound.
My old Sony featured auto-setup technology, but this Onkyo uses Audyssey 2EQ which is far more advanced. Using a special microphone, the receiver automatically makes setting adjustments for speaker volume and distance from the listening area, and in addition adjusts EQ settings for each individual speaker. This takes into account the frequency response of each speaker as well as the acoustics of the room. My living room is pretty bass-friendly and Im not complaining about that but Audyssey adjusts for that, so that bass instruments sound more like instruments and not like a diesel truck driving by. The sound is still as powerful as Id ever want, but much more detailed at the same time.
This receiver lacks many features only found in more expensive models, but mostly those are features I myself dont need. Everything that this model does do it does very well, making it a strong bargain and I dont feel that I paid even a cent too much for it.

What an excellent piece of Equipment! The ease of installation Wireing & Cableing was idiot proof. Onkyo includes in the carton a single sheet guide which directs the basic connections without any confusion. The Bang for the Buck of this unit could not be better. I strongly reccomend this unit.

I was perfectly happy with my purchase. Took maybe an hour and a half to set up, but a majority of it was simply due to measuring out speaker wire around the room. I never had a receiver before, never needed to set one up, and after buying this product, Im perfectly content in knowing that as long as it doesnt suddenly breakdown or my house blows up, I wont even think about getting another one and setting it up anytime in the near future.

I purchased the 507B based on Onkyos reputation for quality. I was not disappointed. The 507B allows you to play a different source CD, FM, etc on your second set of speakers than is playing on your main set. Very nice. The set up is straight forward but you must read the manual if you hope to benefit from all the useful procedures. A microphone is provided that you plug in that automatically tests each speaker, including the subwoofer, and requires you to move the mike three times to different locations that you may use to give you outstanding sound at each location. Great product and great dervice and delivery from Vanns.

Our first purchase from Vanns a clearance item in perfect condition and our first ONKYO. Awesome system, the sound, ease of set up especially with the included mic for accurate speaker levels. An ozone smell was detected in the first few days. I called Vanns and your CS person was ready for the return even if it took more than 2 weeks. The smell disappeared after 2 days. It only runs warm never hot. The best receiver we have ever owned.

I bought this to replace a similar Onkyo receiver. Being able to connect all my components via HDMI ports simplifies the set-up. The included mic makes balancing the speakers a breeze.
My only complaint is that the video seems to be dimmed on occasion. Shutting off and turning the receiver back on corrects the problem, but it is a bit of a pain and the reason for marking the receiver down a notch on performance.
Overall, Im very pleased with this receiver. Vanns had the best price with speedy shipping.

I have been a custom installer for 20 years, and sold electronics for 30 years. This outstanding model often serves as the the backbone of my installed systems.
It offers superb audio with 80 powerful and clean watts per channel. Watts are over-rated. A clean 80 is much better than a dirty 100 watts. It will blow you away with its great sound.
It has 4 HDMI inputs that pass through 1080p. It is important to note however that many sources only transmit the video through the receiver. So you must get Toslink digital optical audio cables for separate audio input. They are inexpensive and it is not a problem. If you run sources all to the TV you wouldnt need this, but the proper way is to have the audio go straight to the receiver, and thus bypass all the inferior audio circuitry of the connected TV, while streamlining the use.
The digital audio inputs are assignable to various video inputs, and there are plenty of them.
Sound fields are very good, and the auto EQ function does a good job, but its easy to do manually as well.
Perhaps the best feature of this model is the zone2 feature. It allows you to use the same receiver, and connected components to power your whole house audio applications. This has 3 distinct advantages.
1. It can be powered so it is compatible with older speaker selector applications.
2. In the above application, you have seperate control over the volume level of your main system versus the rest of the house. Very nice if you want to crank the deck speakers while listening at a lower volume in the living room.
3. Zone2 can also be used as non powered. This is a complete touchdown when used with whole house audio systems that provide each zone with its own power. It will save you the expense of a separate receiver and components, while acting as the switching center. This has the additional benefit of only taking up one source input on multi-zone, multi-source audio systems.
I often use the basement system as one source, the upstairs system as a 2nd source, and that leaves me openings for Ipod docks, computer audio, security cameras etc..
I have installed about 30 of these including its identical predecessor model. To date, I have yet to have a breakdown. My customers are thrilled with the performance and ease of use, and Im thrilled with the value and quality of this very nice product.
I have used many other products from Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, Bose etc. But all things considered I always come back to the Onkyo. And you cant beat Vanns prices, support and overall experience.

Ive had stereo receivers and video gear for many years but this is my first surround sound receiver and I did a great deal of research before deciding on it. That research helped me to realize what I wanted and needed in what would become the heart of my entertainment system. The list of features I wanted was long but my budget was short. Four HDMI v1.3a inputs, the latest HD 5.1 surround sound decoding - I wanted to get into Blu-Ray - lots of inputs, enough power, HD Radio Ready - HD Radio on a budget? Yes! - iPod and iPhone port, auto room EQ and auto volume control to knock down those loud commercials. This Onkyo has all that at entry level! Ive had this SR507 for six months and Ive never looked back. I really appreciate the Audyssey 2EQ auto speaker setup but I love being able to easily adjust the volume for each speaker and the subwoofer, I never did that before! This unit is well built with an easy learning remote. It plays great at higher volume levels but because I live in a smaller condo building I really love that it plays great at lower levels, too. Since my experience was stereo I was concerned about how a 5.1 unit would perform with my CD player. This unit plays great in stereo! One click on the remote and the front left and right speakers and subwoofer put out a great stereo image. And I can play stereo though all five speakers and the sub if I wish, again a click away. I like that for instrumentals but I prefer the front stereo setting for recordings with vocals. I just added a Blu-Ray player and the 507 handled it with ease. The Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio settings are truly awesome! Once I put this receiver to work I was able to relax and concentrate on adding more components to my system and this unit has kept up with me all the way. Its handling a 46 HDTV, 5 speakers and a subwoofer, an HD cable box, a 400 disc DVD player, a 400 disc CD player, a Blu-Ray player and a VHS Hi-Fi recorder, all without fuss. And Im going to add more. No complaints here, I love it!

I am really mad after checking the Vanns spec list and nowhere does it say the 507 doesnt support video format conversion. So only after hooking up the receiver and wondering why I wasnt getting any pass through from CabSat using Component in to HDMI out that I read the manual to find out there is no conversion support. I bought this for my parents because I already had a 605 that I bought from Vanns 2 years ago which supports video format conversion. There is no reason to own a receiver if you have to switch the source on the receiver AND tv for each device you want to use. I will be returning this receiver ASAP.

I decided on this Onkyo receiver over the Yamaha 465. Ive owned it now for just over 3 weeks and love it. The product provides great value for the money. The instruction manual was easy to read, follow and understand. Theres a separate quick start sheet that illustrates speaker and typical input device connections. Overall setup was straight-forward and easy to perform. The speaker setup was particularly easy with Onkyos Audyssey package and included microphone. With 4 HDMI input jacks, theres enough to satisfy just about anyones needs. Theres enough component and composite jacks to satisfy those non-HDMI capable devices. Based on what Ive experienced so far, there are no CONS with this product.

Ive been using this receiver for about a month now, and have been quite happy with it. The plusses It has more than enough HDMI inputs for my upconverting DVD player, and HD cable box. The audio quality is very good with little distortion using HDMI and digital optical. The 3 point callibration with included Mic does a good job of setting the speakers up correctly. There are very few negatives with this receiver. It doesn"t do analog to HDMI conversion, and thats about it.
