JVCs RX-D411S stands out in a field of far-reaching receiver designs, and its high-tech air is more than skin deep. This AV receiver boasts cutting-edge, high-power digital amplifiers, but thats just the tip of the iceberg. It also includes HDMI switching and HDMI upconversion and it is currently one of the least expensive receivers that I could find on the market with both. HDMI is the pinnacle of AV connectivity, an all-digital connection that carries high-definition video and surround sound audio. One HDMI cable could, replace the three component-video cables as well as the optical audio line between a DVD player and the TV. Other receivers with HDMI either dont offer conversion or are relatively expensive.
The RX-D411 includes a wired USB streaming-audio solution. Im in iPod heaven! Its combination of features and solid sound quality make it among the most feature rich receivers on the market especially at this price. Its gleaming front panel features a deep-blue LED slit sprinkled with red LEDs to indicate the selected input, while on the right, illuminated volume and source-selector knobs complete the set. In our darkened home theater, the 411s light show dazzled our friends.
I found this receivers menus especially difficult to understand. For example, when we tried to access the D411s customizable digital signal-processing modes that create a more reverberant, spacious surround effect or change the apparent height of the center speaker, we ran out of patience before we achieved the desired result. Here the good part, we called JVCs 800 # in Texas-CST-so you know, and they had us giong in minutes. I think Ive been spoiled by Plug-n-Play.
Its definitely a 5 star machine!!! |

We got this system for a small living room home theater. It is driving Kef 2002.5 speakers.
Strengths - The sound is awesome and dynamic. It is a nice clean uncolored amp with good power if you have efficient 90dB1w speakers. Klipsh would be a good match. Good surround and LFE. HDMI working well for us too.
Weaknesses - On loud noises like close-miked gun shots, the unit has shut itself off if the volume is set over 30. This level is necessary on some movies with quieter dialogs. FM reception is poor in rural areas, remote buttons are unlit and tiny, and the unit runs hot. It needs nothing on top and good ventilation. |
