Powerful Mix
Representing a new generation of Onkyo A/V receivers, the TXSR604 brings you both stellar 90 watt x 7 channel home theater performance and access to satellite radio through an XM Connect & Play port. Revolutionizing radio through innovative, commercial-free programming, XM Satellite Radio is best delivered through the precisely engineered, powerfully amplified TXSR604. With Powered Zone 2, you get the best of both worlds--engaging surround home theater in one room with another two-channel source (such as XM Satellite Radio programs, MP3s, or audio CDs) distributed to another. You can also take advantage of the onboard Audyssey 2EQ system to calibrate your speakers for the best possible sound from the listening position of your choice. And with a host of connectivity options, you'll find integrating the TXSR604 with the latest high-definition components a straightforward, stress-free activity.
Connecting With Quality
To assure the highest quality from your entertainment sources, Onkyo provided the TXSR604 with a full range of quality connections, including 1080p bandwidth HDMI v1.1 switching inputs/output (2/1); as well as component video inputs/output (3/1) that all feature component video switching. The amount of bandwidth needed to pass a component video signal depends on the video source you are using. To pass a progressive scan DVD signal a receiver needs component bandwidth of at least 12 MHz, and a progressive HDTV signal requires approximately 30 MHz of bandwidth for flawless transfer. The TXSR604's 50 MHz bandwidth is much greater than the 37 MHz needed for 720p and is more than enough for the clearest reproduction of the lastest video signals. There are also S-Video inputs/outputs (5/3), 4 optical and 2 coaxial digital audio inputs, 1 optical digital output, 2 audio and 5 A/V inputs. For added convenience, the TXSR604 has video, S-Video and optical inputs located on the front panel. There's even composite to S-Video upconversion built into this receiver, helping the TXSR604 once again make the most out of everything.
No Noise Please
The TXSR604 incorporates Onkyo's VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry), a unique digital-to-analog conversion circuit to mitigate the effect of signal noise. As noise is magnified during the conversion process, even minimal amounts of noise can adversely affect audio quality. With VLSC, data is converted between the sampling points and these discrete sampling points are joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output wave form. VLSCS is incorporated into the two front channels where most prominent sounds are based. The result--a noiseless, smooth analog signal based on the digital source.
No-Hassle Room Equalization
The TXSR604's Audyssey 2EQ high-sensitivity microphone picks up test tones at your favorite listening spot, and then an acoustic analyzer adjusts the sound pressure level and time delay of each channel. Test tones are output through each speaker, detected by the microphone, and shown through an onscreen display. This ensures that each channel is delivered synchronously, so you get the most accurate frequency response from your favorite listening spot. Easily calibrated using the TXSR604's onscreen display and completed in just minutes, Audyssey 2EQ is also useful if you decide to switch listening rooms, or even move to another home.
One Receiver, Two Zones
Powered Zone 2 gives you the option of different sources throughout your home. With the Powered Zone 2 function, you can enjoy one input source in your main room and a different source in another room through two different connection methods: using a receiver/integrated amp in Zone 2, or using only a pair of speakers in Zone 2. In the former method, you can enjoy 7.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different A/V source in Zone 2 (with the Zone 2 amplifier automatically switched on by a 12V trigger). With the latter method, you can use 5.1 surround sound in the main room and play a different A/V source (in stereo) in Zone 2.
Beam It Down Scotty
The TXSR604 brings you commercial-free and high-quality satellite radio programming through an XM Connect & Play port on the rear. Simply plug in an optional XM Connect & Play home receiver/antenna (not included) to access more than 170 digital channels--stacks of content that has revolutionalized the radio industry forever. XM Satellite Radio service and activation is not included, fees apply.
Sonic Balancing Acts
Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) was developed to tackle the sonic demands of today's multichannel digital audio formats like DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD. WRAT virtually eliminates the adverse effects of counter-electromotive force by applying an uncommonly low amount of negative feedback resulting in a flat response beyond 100 kHz, which means you get full bandwidth power across all channels. In other words, this receiver can faithfully reproduce any signal that you want to listen to and do it more accurately than you thought possible! Naturally, movie soundtracks are not specifically designed for the smaller environs of your home, which results in tonal brightness (high frequencies seeming overly loud). Onkyo's CinemaFILTER restores the correct tonal balance by adjusting the volume levels to more appropriate levels.

I purchased the Onkyo TX-SR604 two weeks ago and am very satisfied with it. Very high quality sound and plenty of power. The HDMI works great with my new 50 Sony HD TV. I have it teamed with an Infinity TSS1100 speaker system. I dont think I could have found a better quality receiver with HMDI for the money.
My only issues have been that I would have liked another HDMI input port it has 2. Also, I never was able to get the set up menu on my TV screen, but was able to set it up using the receiver display. This is a well documented issue.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase.

I upgraded from SONY 5.1 receiver STRDE-915 to ONKYO TX-SR604. Sound quality is superb. So much better than my old SONY. 7.1 channel option is a plus, though I am not using it currently only 5.1 for now. Setup was simple and took me less than an hour to rock my home-theater. I would highly reccomend this receiver. Just right.
Vanns gave me a great deal and the whole process was smooth. First purchase with Vanns and will definitely come back for more. Infact I am recommending Vanns to many of my frinds.
