Maximize Your Entertainment
Immerse yourself in wall-to-wall surround sound with the most advanced surround sound formats available for your home. Dolby Digital and DTS-ES provide outstanding surround sound as well as five DSP (Digital Sound Processing) modes that allow you to tailor the sound to your tastes. To take advantage of Dolby Digital EX processing, this receiver has six 100 watt amplifiers. The sixth amp has been added to accommodate an additional surround back channel, but can also be switched over to power a subwoofer. Dolby Pro Logic II Movie Mode creates a realistic surround sound experience from stereo broadcasts and VHS tapes. Dolby Pro Logic II also has a Music Mode that greatly enhances the enjoyment of your CDs, tapes, radio (even LPs). This Music Mode also allows you to dial-in the best sound for your room and personal taste. SRS Circle Surround II provides additional processing to help make the most of most any format you choose. From LPs to CDs and VHS to DVD; whatever your entertainment choices, Kenwood maximizes your enjoyment.
Sound Processing & Boosting Bass
Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) modes recreate different sonic environments simulating the acoustics of distinct venues. You can enjoy a more lifelike listening experience by choosing between modes, which include arenas, theaters, and clubs. Bass management lets you set up your system so that deep bass is sent only to those speakers designed to handle it, reducing distortion and increasing dynamic range. Bass management is performed digitally, allowing greater precision and control. You can also increase bass by preset amounts using Bass Boost to give your music an even richer, fuller sound. Select from three active speaker equalization modes to match the response of your speakers to the type of program you're listening to (movies, music or TV) and enjoy maximum impact from all your entertainment.
Put Yourself In A Good Mode
In addition to all the digital sound processing (DSP) modes, you also have Midnight Theater Mode which softens the loud portions of a Dolby Digital soundtrack, allowing you to enjoy a movie without disturbing others (or the other way around). Last Sound Mode Memory helps you keep track of which modes you like best by remembering the last user-selected sound mode for each input and automatically switching to that sound mode when you select the input. If you choose to listen to a CD in Jazz Club mode, the next time you select the CD input your receiver will remember you like the Jazz Club sound and automatically take you there. This receiver is even with it enough to automatically sense whether it's receiving a digital or analog signal and adjust itself accordingly.
Hooked Up
This powerhouse is prepared to handle high energy, multi-channel, digital audio. To start with, it kicks out an impressive 100 watts to six channels (not just five). Even better, all that power is being provided by an extremely efficient Kenwood K-STAT discrete audio amplifier. So, you not only get plenty of power, but your receiver makes the most of that power to provide cleaner, more consistent sound and rock steady reliability. An impressive array of connections enable you to connect to practically any component you would care to. Digital audio inputs for components like CD and DVD, S-Video for superior video performance or component video for the best video transfer. There are also inputs on the front panel for easy connection of camcorders and dozens of other devices. Six channel inputs allow you to connect to new audio excitement like DVD Audio & SACD, or even future formats not even dreamed of yet. Banana Plug speaker connections provide solid, secure connections so all that wondrous audio reaches your speakers as purely as possible.
For Control Freaks
What makes a remarkable receiver even better? A really cool remote of course. The remote included with this home theater receiver comes pre-programmed with codes to operate a large number of other devices. If the codes you need for your equipment are not already in your new control center, it can quickly and easily learn new codes. It has a built-in LCD screen to help you keep track of what you're system is doing and it also has RF (radio frequency) ability so you don't have to aim your remote directly at the receiver. You don't even have to be in the same room as the receiver. Two IR (infra red) outputs are built into the receiver itself which allows you to use the receiver to help control other devices with your remote's RF ability. For ultimate control, use the system control connections to network your receiver with other compatible Kenwood components.

Just received the 6070 and so far the amount of options makes this receiver something I will enjoy for years. I have been looking at many of the receivers on the market and I could not find one that provided all these features for this price. It does have some down sides though. Its video quality is not what it should be to be used with digital images and it does not have on-screen programming. Both of which were not important to me when purchasing this receiver. Other than that you can't beat this receiver for the price.

I looked at tons of recievers and there is no better value better than the kenwood vr-6070. I am able to set up my system know and I have plenty of room to add on down the road. No other reciver is THX Select Certification for the same price. It has an impressive 100 watts power to 6 speakers. My favorite part is that I it allows me to have control over every aspect of my system. My room is an weird shape and I was able to adjust the loudness of each speak to get the best sound in my room. This reciever is the only way to go!

Best value out there! This little gem has got plenty of power and so many features that it will take me some time to explore and experience all of them. Many note that this unit is difficult to figure out. I would suggest that it is no more difficult than any other unit with this many features that would cost $100's more. I added the rear center speakers to my system and when playing 6.1 DVD's, the effect is outstanding! Adds a whole new dimension to Home Entertainment, even though this is Matrixed 6.1, not true Discrete 6.1 surround. Would highly recommend this product if you want a receiver loaded with features you can use and don't want to spend $1,500 or more.

After a LOT of online research, shopping around and thought, I decided on the Kenwood VR-6070 (combined with JBL SCS150 speakers) as a replacement for my 20+ year old stereo system. It is a decision I have not regretted in the least. I mainly listen to CDs and watch a lot of DVDs; so the ability to play music accurately and support the latest movie sound encodings was a must, and the system had to have enough power to play it all at realistic sound levels. The 6070 puts out powerful, clean sound, and the JBL speakers seem to make an excellent combination, as I have yet to get the volume even to the halfway mark (at -14 to -12 dB it verges on too loud, and would be very difficult to talk to someone), and I have this set up in a large (approximately 25'x17') room. Music sparkles and watching DVDs has taken on new meaning, with comments like "You really feel like you're there!" and "It's just like being at the movie theater!" being the norm. I wanted to make sure that there were adequate audio and video inputs and outputs for both present and future equipment, which the 6070 has an abundance of, and the THX Select Certification, ability to support a w-i-d-e variety of speaker arrangements and listening modes, and a remote control that can be programmed for just about any piece of equipment were all big pluses. Speaking of the remote, since it is RF (and IR), you can control the 6070 from quite a distance, and you don't have to worry about trying to line it up with some silly IR sensor on the front of the receiver - NICE. I checked other similar receivers from Onkyo, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony and Yamaha; but when features, performance and price were compared, the Kenwood won hands down. I wholeheartedly recommend the VR-6070 for anyone looking for a reasonably priced home audio system.

Very pleased with performance. Output from this unit is just fantastic. Star Trek II will blow you away with the 6 channels. Kenwood could do a better job of writing the instruction manual on operation but once you get the hang of operation it's easy to use. I'm not an audiophile but pretty pickie and this receiver is built to satisfy.

What a receiver! I purchased the 6070 with high expectations and they were met and surpassed. I owned a smaller Kenwood receiver and was ready to upgrade. After reading and researching, I was ready to make my purchase. The 6070 is feature rich, including THX certification, and great sound from my existing Home Theater In A Box Speakers! Although the remote has a learning curve, it is well worth the time to utilize all of the functions. Take the time to compare this receiver with higher priced models. You will find that the 6070 gives you much more "bang for the buck" !

The Kenwood VR-6070 Rocks! You can't find a better receiver with the same features anywhere near its price. THX Select certification is the icing on the cake. I was reviewing this against the Harmon Kardon AVR 320 and Onkyo SRT-600, They may have HD component video switching, but I don't own a HD tv, so not a big deal for me. The main selling points were THX, CSII, and of course the price. The only knock against it is it has a spotty instruction manual, but don't let that deter you from checking it out. It still was relatively easy to set up. The sound is awesome!!! You will not be disappointed.

I ordered the Kenwood 6070 receiver from Vanns. The sales person was very nice and allowed me to ship to a business address with no hassel. I needed this so that someone could sign for it.
The receiver shipped 'free ground' , no tax and was received when promised. Vanns provided a tracking number just hours after the order was placed so that I could track the order without having to call and find out where it was.
The receiver list locally for $599 plus tax. I save over $150.00.
The unit is all the reviews said it would be. The THX sound is super. DVDs with THX sound spectacular and that is with only 5 speakers and subwoofer connected. I can not wait to add the two additional side speakers.
Music CDs also sound great!
This unit does not provide a equalizer but has a wide variety of presets that allow you to change or customize your listening for different kinds of programs.
Thank you Vanns!

The Kenwood VR-6070 bridges the gap between value and performance. There is no other A/V receiver under $500 that offers so many features (6.1 channels, THX-certification, dts-ES, DD-EX, CSII). This receiver was a joy to install and accomodated all of my A/V components with room for growth. I was even able to connect it to my old receiver so that I could pipe out sound and video to another room in the house. Bass management works great with SACD and automatic cable detection really enhances this system. My only complaint is that the remote is not back-lit (easy to depress one of 30 buttons in the dark). Vanns shipped my receiver within 24 hours of my order and my shipment was received in less than a week.

I ordered the Kenwood VR-6070 on a Sunday and it arrived on Tuesday.I was very pleased. It arrived in excellent condition. I am very impressed by Vann's customer service and interest in pleasing the customer. I think this was one of the cheapest prices I found and I did quite a bit of checking. I was very happy not to pay shipping. I plan to buy other items from this company rather than some of those "iffy" shops back east that offer a tempting price before you find out what the shipping, handling and processing fees, etc are going to be. My receiver is working great, has plenty of power and lots of extras that will help me move into the world of surround sound.

The Kenwood VR-6070 replaced my Kenwood VR-309 after two years of faithful service. But I needed more inputs, and the VR-6070 at the Vanns price sounded like a great deal.
The first problem I had with the VR-6070 was the remote. In comparison to the remote with the VR-309, it's something of a complicated beast. I also don't care for it having the ability to modify all of the sound fields I spent a week setting up the way I wanted (my wife, with an erroneous push of a button, could screw things up.) I also didn't like that if you pushed the volume button, control went back to "Receiver" mode. If you're used to changing a channel by just pushing a single button, get ready to push multiple buttons here. You have to push the button of the device almost always before performing the function. The good news: The old VR-309 remote works with the VR-6070, and if you work at it enough (and watch which inputs you place your gear in), you can program it to work pretty much seamlessly. It's much easier to use with this system.
Another problem: The VR-6070 is almost TOO good at processing sound. Great sounding DVD's and programs (on DirecTV) sound phenominal. Not-so-great-sounding programs (most broadcast channels and commercials from any source) sound horrible. The flaws REALLY come out.
With so many different ways to set the sound up, I spent a week playing around with every variation I could come up with on setting the sound and ended up going with DTS NEO CINEMA (with no EQ) for broadcast and DTV sound. Ironically, NEO Cinema sounds more like Pro-Logic did than on my 309 than Pro-Logic does on the VR-6070. (It DOES sound a lot better.) I found DPL II to be completely worthless. It sent too much sound to the R/L fronts and had no low-end response at all. NEO Cinema has an excellent full range sound.
The broadcast channels, which tend to spit more, have THX turned on. I have found the THX processing to be pretty much useless for other applications unless you listen to everything at very loud levels. At lower levels, it seems to sound distorted. (My speakers are Boston VR-series, so I don't put the problem there.)
The VR-6070 has a lot of features for the dollar and I'm sure anybody who buys it will ultimately find a processing/EQ scheme that suits their particular taste. But prepare to spend quite a bit of time getting the receiver to that point. I personally find 90 percent of the possibilities to be completely worthless (especially reverb stuff like "Arena") and would like to have seen them gone. But there's a simple solution to that...Buy a cheaper receiver. Anything in the Kenwood line should give you a good sound and, like my old VR-309, be much easier to use and understand.
