Hybrid Feedback Digital Amp Ver. III
Despite the RX-D702B's ultra-slim design, JVC's A/V control receivers provide amplification for up to seven channels. The secret to this outstanding feat is the JVC-exclusive Hybrid Feedback Digital Amp. A digital amp first digitizes the music signal, then amplifies it. The process of digital amplification combines high efficiency and reduced power dissipation through heat loss. So a digital amp requires a smaller transformer and power supply, permitting compact size and lightweight design. But with conventional digital amps, the process of converting analog signals to digital leads to the generation of digital noise. Fluctuations in the power supply voltages and power-supply noise can also aggravate analog noise. The JVC Hybrid Feedback Digital Amp solves the problem by using two feedback loops. The digital feedback loop significantly improves the precision with which the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals are generated. The analog feedback loop "brushes up" the waveform of the analog signal at output to match the original. What's more, this JVC exclusive design is upgraded to "Version III," which features double feedback loops for both digital and analog. It effectively reduces the distortion caused by speaker impedance, enabling even lower total harmonic distortion - around 0.004 percent.
High Performance DSP
At the heart of JVC A/V receivers is a high performance DSP. The RX-D702 comes with a Texas Instruments DSP. Currently, it is one of world's fastest, highest-performing chips of its kind, replacing two conventional DSP chips. Clocking at 1,800MIPS or 1,200MFLOPS (at 225MHz clock speed), this chip boasts one of the highest processing power ratings on the market and features 32/64-bit double-precision operations for accuracy. Its floating-point operations allow for more accurate calculations with an expanded range of numbers. Additionally, the chip's compact size is conducive to reduction in digital noise. The high-performance DSPs are compatible with many of today's home cinema sound formats, including Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, and DTS NEO:6. Plus, the devices handle the JVC-exclusive DAP, digital EQ, midnight mode, and other functions.
Advanced Digital Acoustics Processor
The JVC DAP in the RX-D702B allows digital recreation of acoustic environments - halls, pavilions, etc.- in your media room. JVC developed a new sound field simulation technology jointly with one of leading concert-hall designers and contractors. Capable of handling multi-channel sources, it makes use of a vast amount of data for the creation of sound field patterns that are difficult with conventional processing systems based on field-measured impulse responses. Each sound field pattern is verified and modified repeatedly by critical auditions. The result is that sound fields are reproduced most naturally, with early reflections simulated realistically. Moreover, the processor is compatible with multi-channel sources such as Dolby Digital and DTS.
CC Converter
When an analog signal is converted into digital (A/D conversion), high frequencies - normally those higher than 20kHz with CDs - are removed as dictated by the CD's sampling frequency. Absence of this high-frequency data affects the quality of sound in the audible range. The CC Converter features exclusive algorithms to restore lost signals based on the recorded digital signals of audible frequencies, those frequencies that should have been recorded in the first place. It also uses high-bit quantization to reproduce minute signals. Moreover, in order to precisely reproduce the signals that have undergone such processing, the CC Converter features a broader analog bandwidth (up to 4 times the sampling frequency) extending beyond 20kHz. This improves the quality of the music data in improves the quality of the music data in the audible range. Through high-bit/high-sampling processing, the CC Converter generates expanded digital signals with a quality close to that of the original master. In response to the growing popularity of PC music files, JVC has upgraded the CC Converter so it applies different algorithms for non-compressed hi-fi (CDs, DVDs and other linear formats) and compressed audio (MP3, WMA, and others). Compressed music has never sounded better or clearer.
DTS 96/24, Virtual Surround Back and Center-Channel Alignment
DTS 96/24 allows encoding 5.1 channel soundtracks at a rate of 96kHz/24 bits on DVD-Video. It can deliver 5.1 channels in 96/24 along with full-motion video for feature film soundtracks and music programs on DVD-Video (and DVD-Audio for sound only). In case your home theater is a 5.1-channel setup, Virtual Surround Back lets you upgrade to 6.1-channel surround without adding any more speakers. When the source you play comes with 6.1-channel surround (Dolby Digital EX or DTS ES), information in the Surround Back channel is distributed to Surround Left and Surround Right channels. Sound effects can be placed right behind you to put you in the middle of the action. The center speaker is usually placed on top of or under the display, while the front speakers are set at or near ear level. The result is that dialog, carried by the center speaker, seems out of place relative to music and sound effects. JVC's exclusive DSP application virtually positions the center speaker to align it with other speakers with respect to height. The dialog simply sounds more natural.
Quick Speaker Setup
This is an "unpack and play" convenience. To set up your home theater properly, just input the number of speakers you use and the size of your listening/viewing room - that's all. You can skip the elaborate steps you normally have to follow before the show starts for the first time. Anytime later, you can adjust settings to your personal taste.

I have bought JVC electronics many times and have always been more than satisfied, and this receiver delivers performance wise. However, the manual for set up leaves alot to be desired. The instrutions are vague in some places, and not at all in others. They ought to fire the guy who put this manual together. First, there are no real instructions on how to hook up both a dvr and a dvd player with separate inputs. Ive been hooking up electronics all my life and have bever had a problem like this. Guess I will have to call JVC for help. Second, there is no input for a record player. Granted, records are on the way out, but I still have many old favorites I like to play. Third, the manual offers no technical assistance by listing a number to call. I get the strong feeling that JVC has lost its edge both in customer service and quality

I purchased the JVC RX-D702B from Vanns.com on 1292005 and recieved it FedEx Ground to here in Dayton, OH on 12172005 which was very acceptable shipping considering the Christmas holiday rush of deliveries. It arrived one day after the original estimated delivery date. The reciever is really great looking, has some incredible features, and for the money is a great investment for a mid-to-high grade of home theater amp. Folks who consider themselves to be audiophiles should look elsewhere for more expensive solutions, but for people who want to have pro-level sound at home for a budget price, the JVC RX-D702B is a wonderful value. (Some disadvantages of the JVC RX-D702B that I've found) 1. Remote does NOT allow you to change 'INPUT' on a JVC TV if you have one. My old remote for the previous JVC RX-8020VBK reciever would allow me to not only change TV channel and TV volume, but also TV INPUT, allowing me to use one single remote to control all my JVC equipment 2. Obviously, no 2nd separate set of speakers for another room like other recievers in this price range. 3. USB Wireless - Ok, so this feature is definately a toy, not something that really can be used too often. It's NOT a good way to send audio to the receiver from a computer if you were planning to hook up a media PC to your entertainment center. It works wonderfully once you get things hooked up, but the main drawbacks with the USB wireless are as follows a When the USB audio is activated on the computer, your computer speakers will be disabled and any other audio output devices. b To initiate the USB wireless link, you have to flip a switch manually on the back of the receiver from 'On' to 'ID Learning' mode and at the same time have someone at the computer push a teeny tiny button on the side of the USB wireless transmitter so they can 'link' up. Then you move the switch to 'On' on the receiver, and things work. But unfortunately, if you restart your computer or if you happen to power things down, they don't link up again at least from what I've been trying without switching to 'ID learning' again. 4. Source mode naming - There aren't any options to change the names of sources that you are using. Some sources have a type of 'toggle' that you can switch between ex DBSDVR but no specialized naming of sources. (Advantages) 1. Faroudja Video Chip - This thing really looks amazing. It is responsible for all of the upconversions you can get out of the receiver. I've got all my S-Video and Component video INs going to the D702B and then a single set of component video outs to my TV. Works great, the quality is superb, and the upconversion is incredible! I regularly watch videos off of my computer sending the video and audio to the receiver in a stereo RCAS-Video single cable about 30' in length and the upconversion from S-Video input to Component out to my TV is amazing! The picture is cleaned up, all jagged artifacts or color-bit-depth 'haloing' is gone! Very impressed with the upconversion chip. 2. POWER - This receiver has gobs of it. Most of the time I've been listening to the TV at around 20-25 on the volume setting. On my old reciever, I was constantly using settings in the 50's or 60's for volume out of 80. There definately is more punch and more juice in this reciever, I'm very pleased with the performance. 3. Surround Sound Capabilities - This receiver has them all. All formats, all decodings, even Neo6 and DTS9624khz DVD Audio settings. The configuration settings for setting them up is confusing and convuluted at best in the manual, but you certainly do have full control over the entire setup and even set distances from speakers for better sound positioning. 4. Speaker outputs - This receiver can handle either 2.1 stereo with subwoofer, 4.1 front speakers, rear speakers, subwoofer, 5.1 front and rear speakers, center channel and subwoofer, 6.1 front and rear speakers, center rear, center front, subwoofer and 7.1 front and rear and surround rear speakers, center front, subwoofer Each channel gets 150W of power, which is more than ample for any size basement home theater room you might have. 5. Size - This reciever is only about 4' tall, so it's gonna be shorter than even most DVD changers!. Definately leaves some good room in my entertainment center to allow for cooling of the unit and better airflow. I did NOT have any problems with overheating, although I did get that 'new reciever' smell after a few hours of movie watching on the unit VIDEO 6 Composite RCA Video In plugs 6 S-Video In Plugs 3 Component Video In Plugs 2 HDMI Video In Plugs 1 Component Video Out Plug 1 S-Video Out Plug 1 Component Video Out Plug 1 HDMI Video Out Plug AUDIO 2 Stereo IN2 Stereo Out RCA sets TVSirius, DBS, VCR inout, DVDDVR inout DVD-Multi IN 4 RCA plugs allow older analog DVD 5.1 connections 1 RCA Composite Digital Audio IN 2 Toslink optical Digital Audio IN 1 Toslink optical Digital Audio OUT Subwoofer OUT RCA plug HDMI 2-IN1-OUT Monitor No effects are processed onto HDMI video, and supposedly subwoofer levels with HDMI cannot be modified. Other types of audiovideo are NOT affected. (FINAL NOTES) Some issues I've been having have been solved by having other JVC AV equipment. Because of a feature called COMPU-LINK, you can have your receiver remote control all of the other AV devices in your entertainment center. Using a normal 18' monural plug you can connect each device TV, DVD, etc to your reciever and allow it to automatically change the volume, input number, channel, power offon, etc for each of the devices attached to it. It really works great when you want to switch from TV to DVD. Just hit a single button on your remote, and your DVD player will turn on and start playing, your reciever will change input to DVD, and your TV will adjust to the proper Input channel in order to play the video. Has worked wonderfully for me and is a nice feature if you own all JVC stuff.

The JVC RX-D702 has loads of features at a good price. The price is made even better when you purchase from Vann's! ...CC and there was no sales tax. HDMI switching is flawless as is the picture and audio it sends to your TV and speakers. Too many features to mention, but one thing that seems to be overlooked and I could only find it in the operating manual is the audio 'sync'. Lots of people have audio sync problems and this receiver will allow you to set the audio properties back as far as 100ms in 10ms increments to bring audio and video together. Well worth the $599 at Vann's!

The unit has many features that one needs if you want HDMI switching. Enough inputs for DBS, VCR, DVR and TV. There are front jacks to allow access for your camera. I like the look with the blue tone that lights the front panel. Remote control works well. Audio sounds fine for my built in wall speakers. I would have like to be able to change the input device names that appear on the front display. I would have liked an aux audio out, but used the vcr audio out. Nice HDTV switching device. Also, allows you to select video and audio inputs depending on your individual cabling.

I was looking around for a surround sound receiver with the latest feature that would work well with my plasma TV and I decided that the JVC RX-D702B was going to be it. The only bad thing was...it was no where to be found on any website, it hadn't came out yet. I checked the priced everywhere and VANNs.com had it for 200 dollars cheaper than what everyone was asking. So I decided to pre-order my unit. I check to see everyday when the manufacturer was going to ship these units out. About the same time as other sites was charging 800 dollar for the unit, Vanns.com sent me an email saying that my order was being processed and shipped for 600. I save 200 instantly. If you want one of these you better buy it at Vann's.com What I like about the RX-D702B is that it has a hdmi connections 2 in 1 out and it upconverts all your inferior video source to HDMI so you don't have to get a fancy dvd player that upconverts, the receiver does it for you. It also has a usb wireless stick that you can plug into your computer and play music to your receiver from the computer. Not just MP3, but any audio from your PC. I was able to get pretty good sound from about 50 feet away through several walls and obstacles. It definitely has a cool factor. The unit has a sleek design with cool blue lights and minimal buttons. The remote isn't too fancy but it does it's job well. I would recommend buying this product from Vanns.com
