Enter the world of advanced entertainment
If you're ready to incorporate networking and streaming into your home theater system, the Onkyo TX-NR509 will get you in the game at a reasonable price. Equipped with an ethernet port and DLNA-compliant, this 5.1-channel receiver can access audio files on your compatible computer or stream internet radio. Customize your personal radio station on Pandora or Slacker, and crank up your sound. But audio isn't the only area of expertise for the TX NR509. Four HDMI v1.4 inputs handle high definition audio from Dolby and DTS, plus pass 3D video content. You can even connect your iPhone or iPod directly to the receiver using the USB port on the front panel. Listen to your stored playlists on your home theater system, and let Onkyo's proprietary Advanced Music Optimizer make the most of your compressed digital files. When you feel like moving beyond one room, Zone 2 line-outs let you send a stereo audio signal to a second room equipped with an amp and speakers. Control it all with the included remote or download Remote App, which turns your iPod or iPhone into a remote for the TX-NR509. If you're looking for a great deal on a full-featured receiver, you've found it.
A little more tech, a lot more impressive sound
With all the new media features of the TX-NR509, one could overlook the technology inside designed to reproduce amazing surround sound from five speakers and a subwoofer. High-quality Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converters optimize analog audio performance for exceptionally high-fidelity audio reproduction. Optimum Gain volume circuitry and Jitter-Cleaning circuit technology ensure clean, controlled sound free from common sources of distortion and interference. And with 80W per channel, you'll have plenty of power for your surround setup. When it comes to setting up those speakers, don't be intimidated by the thought of getting everything just right. Let the TX NR509's Audyessey 2EQ do the work for you. With the included microphone, the receiver will determine the perfect balance of sound signals to give you clear, accurate, and natural sound. You'll love the performance the Onkyo TX-NR509 brings to your home theater system.

Very nice receiver with all the bells & whistles one could want in this price range.
Only one big problem The Instruction manual is very poorly written, and difficult to follow. Were I to try and implement several functions, I would need a expert consultant to make sense out of the manual or for whom such tasks are second nature. My Harmon-Kardon receiver by contrast has a lucid and easy to follow manual.
Recommend one go on-line and review the manuals before purchasing Onkyo products.

This unit replaced my 12 year old ONKYO TX-DS676. I am very satisfied with its performance, especially the Audyssey setup and the dock for my iPod. The speaker balance procedure is easy to do, and I am pleased with the resulting sound in my listening room. I have never hesitated to purchase an ONKYO product.

I was expecting big things from this receiver based on my experience with my Onkyo TX-SR601 and am not disappointed. Plenty of CLEAN power and crystal clear sound from whisper quiet to ear-splitting volume. Easy set up with only one problem. The HDMI connections are a bit too close together for certain Monster brand HDMI cables with large connectors. I had a problem with the PS-3 only passing audio. I noticed the Monster HDMI cable was pushing against the Sony cable when the two were connected to adjacent HDMI inputs. As soon as I moved one of them, the problem went away. All the receivers features work. Im especially impressed with the HDMI pass through feature. It simplifies set up immensely. I have it hooked up to a Comcast cable TV box, a Sony PS-3 and a Sony 42 inch LCD TV.

Very easy to set up. This receiver conected automatically with my Sony bd player this makes it so I only have to use one remote to control volume. There are a lot of features that I have to explore that I am sure will make the listening exsperece even better.

I bought Onkyo TX-NR509 receiver along with Jamo speakers and an Energy 200W Subwoofer, all from Vanns. The system exceeded my expectation for the price I paid.
If you are looking for an economical but great start at Home-Theatering, you will not be disappointed with this receiver! The sound is amazing. You will enjoy movies in Dolby Digital on this receiver. I keep the volume at about 30 of the max volume the receiver can do, and it is more than enough!
Vanns delivery was fast too! Vanns rocks!
