Impressive Sonic Developments
This superbly designed TXSR303S home theater receiver combines Onkyo's traditional strengths of sound quality and construction quality with even more impressive sonic developments. Take the Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, for example, which effectively eliminates noise contamination in volume control. Other advances assure you of the highest quality audio and overall outstanding home theater performance as well, like Dolby Pro Logic II, a surround sound decoding process that delivers Dolby Digital-like quasi 5.1-channel sound from stereo music recordings and from stereo and Dolby Surround encoded movie soundtracks. It also provides significantly better channel separation than standard Dolby Pro Logic, and offers stereo surround channels, which is a big improvement over Pro Logic's single, mono surround channel. In addition, you have all the excitement of Dolby Digital and DTS Neo:6 surround sound for maximum movie enjoyment from DVDs and other sources with Dolby Digital or DTS soundtracks.
Faithful Reproduction With WRAT
Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT) was developed to tackle the sonic demands of today's multichannel digital audio formats like DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD, and DTS. WRAT virtually eliminates the adverse effects of counter-electromotive force by applying an uncommonly low amount of negative feedback, resulting in a flat response even beyond 100 kHz, which means you get full bandwidth power across all channels. In other words, the Onkyo TXSR303S can faithfully reproduce any signal that you want to listen to and do it more accurately than you thought possible! This receiver also uses discrete output devices for all channels and extruded heat sinks for high current capability and increased efficiency.
Move Your Sound Around
Sometimes referred to as parallel A/B speaker capable, A/B/A+B speaker switching means you can connect a second set of front speakers; and, if you choose, the main (A) and the secondary (B) front speaker pairs can be played simultaneously, or you can switch back and forth from A to B. This allows you to enjoy top-notch stereo sound in a separate room or to use two pairs of front speakers in the same room. Speaker connection and setup is easy thanks to easy-to-follow instructiions and color-coded connections. Multi-way binding posts provide a superior connection for your speakers. Your subwoofer has its own pre-out connection (RCA style) and there's even an adjustable crossover so you can select the setting where the subwoofer works best.
This Receiver Doesn't Forget
In spite of its advanced technology and versatility, this receiver is surprisingly easy to operate. The TXSR303S has automatic digital/analog signal detection and switching to take the guesswork out of what format to choose or input to use. A-Form (Auto-FORMat) Listening Mode, an Onkyo-exclusive advanced memory system, not only senses the signal format (DTS, Dolby Digital, or stereo, for example); but also, unlike any other receiver, switches to the listening modes you pre-assigned for that source. So you can just hit a button, sit back and enjoy your movies and music. And speaking of memory, this receiver will also remember up to 30 AM/FM station presets so you can tune in your favorite radio stations with speed and ease.
One Remote, Many Components
The Remote Interactive (RI) system--included on the TXSR303S--allows you to control, with a single remote control, all parts of an Onkyo system set up with receivers, amplifiers, DVD/CD players/changers, cassette decks, and tuners. You can enjoy the same level of smooth operation as you would have with an integrated A/V system. For example, power on/off can be synchronized across components, and the selector input can automatically switch to play the just-selected component (Auto Selector function). RI capability has been incorporated into most Onkyo products over the last 10 years, allowing you to change or add components over time. Onkyo is the kind of company that's thinking about the long-term needs of its customers.

The Onkyo TX-SR303, equate S as Silver is a surprisingly good performer--even at full price, but at VANNS reduced price at checkout, I felt I'd found a more-than-affordable replacement for my 10 year old and failing Harman Karman AVR 20 MKII--which still works but only just. The Onkyo is sonically SUPERIOR to the electronics of yesteryear, is very easy to hookup and with the Onkyo DV-CP702S CD Changer from VANNS, suddenly I'm back in Hi-Fi Heaven hearing things from my CDs that my old Nakamichi 7 Disk Music Bank Changer NEVER sent to the HK AVR 20 MKII. I still play my LP collection and bought an outboard phono preamp from another online source that plugs into the TAPE inputs on the back of the AVR and that works just fine for my purposes. I do have two gripes about the TX-SR303 1] There are NO AC outlets switched OR unswitched on the back panel, and 2] The speaker terminals are just the basic wire-clamp types with NO provision for banana-plug quick connects. That seems to be an across-the-board failing in the lower priced Onkyo's I considered--but after you've hooked up the speakers like you want them, you shouldn't ever have to deal with those connections again. The subwoofer preamp out is an RCA type connection with a HIGHER than usual low-output signal that makes my matched subs ROCK!!! Otherwise the TX-SR303 is a very good performer for the money and at VANNS price you could easily buy two keeping one in reserve as a just-in-case backup.
