This AVR gives out very clear and crisp, natural sound. Theres so much options for preset sound settings, and theres so many tweaking options of the settings manually if you want to, its so advanced to the regular user like me. Which Im glad there are are variety of preset settings which I can use to fit movie watching and music listening. And knowing that its so advanced makes me feel good The on screen setup makes everything so easy to do, very user friendly. We have a lot of Apple products, this AVR has no airplay, but Vanns gave me a great deal on Apple TV. Theres more than enough HDMI inputs than we need. iPod USB connector is nice to have too. Front HDMI helps with connecting to video cam. Happy with this purchase. Thank you Vanns for suggesting me this AVR and beating all the price out there to give me the best deal.

A lot of cabling options, plenty of power, and on-screen menus are my favorite features.
I have this receiver in my TV stand with other components such as a bluray player, VCR, cable box and each of those are inputted into this receiver and just a single hdmi cable is used for video output to my TV.
That same hdmi cable is used for audio return channel ARC to the receiver for when Im using Netflix or other applications from my TV so I can hear audio.
All audio is sent to an infinity 5.1 surround system with power and clarity. The automatic setup for speakers worked well and could tell exactly how far from my listening location each speaker was placed. It also increases or decreases volume to each speaker to ensure the source audio is heard equally. After the audio was calibrated, I increased the sound to the sub woofer since I prefer a little more boom boom in my movies.
The big difference between this model RX-V671 and the one right below it is the network capability.
I like Pandora which is available and works great and its also nice to be able perform firmware updates which I did with no issues. Ive tried using my android phone application to control the receiver, but so far I have not been able to connect to it for some reason. Still investigating that....
Overall, this receiver is perfect for me. Its been working great and giving my movies a new level of excitement.

I bought the Yamaha RX-V671 because it had good reviews and Vanns was bundling it with the Apple TV, so airplay was covered.
The quality of the receiver was good. I liked the receiver pretty well, but there were a couple of issues that made me return it. The remote control was programmable for other components, but for example, you couldnt change channels like you normally would with a cablesatellite remote. It would definitely do other operations, but for some reason they left that one out. I know a universal remote would take care of this, but thats an additional cost Im trying to avoid.
The standby pass thru only sort of worked. You had to be on the same source input when you shut off the receiver for the function to work. This might have something to do with the controller version, as I found out was the case with the Pioneer VSX-1021, so I might have that problem with any of the receivers I try. Also, you could stream music via DLNA, but not photos. I know that the bundled Apple TV could handle this, but it had its own problem related to loading time.
Generally, I actually liked the receiver. If I didnt care about the specific issues I had above. I would have kept it.

I received the V671 a couple of days ago and so far I am very pleaesd with this product. Ive owned Pioneer and Sony AVRs in the past and this is my first purchase of a Yamaha. The value of what you get with this receiver is incredible. It is also very easy to set up. It has a ethernet connection but I used a wireless ethernet adapter and it connected to my home wireless network, and in no time I had the receiver online.
I am also very impressed with the various built-in sound fields and the onscreen display. I could go on and on about how happy I am with my purchase, but all I can say is that if you are considering this AVR, get it, you will not be disappointed!
And lastly, this was my first time dealing with Vanns and it will not be my last! It was a very good experience from the time of purchase to when I received the shipment. Well done Vanns!

Back in the 80s I owned a Yamaha stereo receiver along with matching CD Player & Cassette Player. The three of them performed very well and I enjoyed them immensely until they were stolen from my temporary apartment. In the intervening years I have had electronics of other brands, viz. Sony, Sony ES, and Onkyo. Recently I have come back to Yamaha in the form of this receiver and feel like I have improved my home theater system significantly. This receiver is so versatile that it can be customized to almost any configuration imaginable. Im using it with an AppleTV backed up by a server with 8Tb of media collected over many years. I also have a new Denon BDDVD connected to it. These two main sources are output to a projector and a 7.1 surround system. The HDMI output to the projector uses a 25 ft. HDMI cable with no degradation. Inputs are both HDMI. The receiver handles them and switches them flawlessly -- my previous receiver was supposed to do that, also, but the 25 ft. output shut it down. Then, of course, I can control the whole thing either with the supplied remote OR with my iPhone or iPad which works better in the dark. Unlike those days back in the 80s when I had every input used all the time, today Im using two inputs and covering the entire spectrum of program material -- there are lots of inputs left over for games, Sirius Radio, Bluetooth, etc.. This receiver does for me all that I need done and in exceptional style. Sound-wise Yamaha somehow connects to the musical instrument side of their house the sound is just simply more musical than any receiver Ive had since my last Yamaha on the other hand it handles the percussive detail of modern soundtracks very well, also. In short, it leaves nothing to be desired for my needs.

We have used the Yamaha RX-V671 for 6 weeks in our 700 sqft great room. We first bought an Onkyo TX-NR509 $300 Klipsch 1000 5.1 surround w sub $550. The Onkyo was OK at driving the surrounds using an iPod, but the FM was never clear. For on-screen display, Onkyo requires HDMI. I updated the bios, then the iPod playback had clicking. I hooked my old Yamaha RX-450 to the Klipsch speakers and the sound was also muted. We returned the Klipsch and Onkyo. Yamaha and Sony are not made in China and we trust both, so, with few reviews out, we bought the Yamaha RX-V671 and matched it with 4 Sony SS-B3000 speakers, a Sony SS-CN5000 center and Sony SA-W2500 sub. The sub went bad and was replaced with a Polk PSW505. This setup sounds fabulous at volumes from soft to earth moving. The Yamaha streams flawlessly, whether from an iPod or from Windows Media Center. It can use an old TV as a monitor for set up. I can turn on the receiver, select songs and adjust volume from any PC in the house. The built-in equalizer is sweet. We use the reciever in 7-chanel stereo mode most of the time. This stereo makes us happy all the time!
Even the remote is great. Worth twice what we paid!

Im totally satisfied with this receiver. The only thing lacking was Airplay and part of the purchase was a free Apple TV included. That solved my Airplay problem. Vanns knows their products and when you ask a question you get a helpful answer. This was my first purchase from Vanns and would feel comfortable purchasing from them in the future.
