Ready for the latest in HD surround sound
There's no question: The Onkyo TX-SR607's 90W x 7 channels of output power and Wide Range Amplifier Technology deliver clean, high-performance audio to your multi-channel audio system. But in order to experience the height of modern multi-channel surround sound — such as the 7.1-channel audio found on Blu-ray Disc movies — you need surround sound decoding from the big hitters. And the TX-SR607 delivers. The TX-SR607 offers Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio decoding, serving up the full 7.1-channel audio the director intended for you to hear. Further, this Onkyo receiver sports the latest from Dolby: Pro Logic IIz. This decoding technology allows for the incorporation of two front "height" channels, adding a new dimension to the spatial sensation of movies, music and video games. Finally, for an enhanced audio experience when watching movies, Onkyo's CinemaFILTER technology restores the correct tonal balance to movie soundtracks, optimizing them for playback in your home theater venue.
Taking standard definition video to the Edge
Given its six HDMI v1.3a inputs, there's no doubt you're planning for the Onkyo TX-SR607 to be a part of your high definition, digital home theater system. As the HD hub for your home theater system, the TX-SR607 takes huge strides to ensure that nothing short of stunning video passes on to your HDTV . . . even video from standard definition or analog sources. While video upscaling to 1080i via HDMI enhances the resolution of standard definition video signals to near-HD levels, Faroudja DCDi Edge technology fine-tunes that signal, replacing interlaced scanning with progressive scanning for a smoother, more fluid video image.
7 or 5 + 2 . . . Zone 2 output
By no means are you limited to directing the TX-SR607's seven channels of output to your home theater area. Thanks to powered Zone 2 output, you have the option of configuring a 5.1-channel system in the living room while also routing two powered channels to a second room for an expanded home audio experience. Imagine listening to your favorite tunes as you cook in the kitchen, relax in the back yard, or tinker in the garage.
A well tailored fit
Every home theater area is different. Different furniture, different arrangement, different flooring, different dimensions. Accordingly, if one were to place the same audio system in multiple different rooms, dramatically different listening experiences would result. And some would certainly be less desirable than others. Ensuring that you experience nothing less than optimal home theater audio tailored to the unique characteristics of your listening area, Onkyo has outfitted the TX-SR607 with Audyssey room-equalization technology. Once your audio system is all hooked up, this technology measures the system's initial performance, ultimately adjusting such factors as frequency response and time domain issues to optimize your system's performance to your listening area.
It's ready
Neither CDs nor the radio are the only source of audio these days. The advent of portable music players and satellite radio services has greatly expanded your potential access to music and other programming. Making sure that you're equipped for audio from all sources, the Onkyo TX-SR607 features plug-and-play readiness for a variety of auxiliary audio formats. With optional dock units, you can easily connect your iPod or HD Radio receiver. Further, built-in Sirius Satellite Radio readiness brings you access to commercial-free music, sports, news, and talk radio.
HDMI: advanced connectivity
Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity, Onkyo's TX-SR607 features six HDMI inputs. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems automatically configure to display that content in the most effective format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device. No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI. (Please note that a physical adapter, sold separately, is needed to make the conversion from HDMI to DVI.)
Your HD life line
High Definition Multimedia Interface, or HDMI, is the only home A/V connection that allows for both Full HD 1080p video and 7.1-channel studio-quality audio to be passes along a single cable. In other words, in order to take full advantage of your home theater’s high definition potential, you need to HDMI cabling to link HD-capable components. It’s only natural that you might have questions regarding how best to outfit your personal HD system. Vann’s sales representatives are here to explain all of your options. I am truly impressed with this receiver. I was concerned that it wouldnt be as good as everyone says because, quite frankly, its cheap. I have a dedicated home movie room and have the full 7.2 speaker setup. It is extremely impressive and the sound is incredible. I would mention that while standard DVD sounds great, BlueRay or HD DVDs sounds 10 times better. The automated setup worked very well. The only change I had to manually make was with the bass.

It runs a little hot so having a fan installed may be something youd want to do if its in an enclosed cabinet.

Obviously Im more than satisfied. Better yet, i ordered my product and recieved it 3 days later without even paying for shipping, let alone express shipping. Vanns is aweswome, even offering extended warrenty plans. Thanks for all your help. im a customer for life!!!

In todays world, where there is a general lack of customer service, it was so refreshing to find the reverse was true with Vanns. The Vanns representative Randy Phillips that worked with my wife and I was very patient, and willing to spend what ever time was needed to address our seemingly never ending questions. Randy patiently walked us through the process of selecting the right components for our home theater system. And we are so pleased with the choices Randy helped us to make. It was like custom ordering a system designed from the ground up just for our home.
Thanks Randy, and thank you Vanns for excellent customer service!

The Receiver is good, especially for the price. I orderred a 7.1 setup of Onkyo speakers and a second woofer of the same type to make it a 7.2 system. It is phenominal, but I already blew one of the woofers.
I dont even know how high the volume goes because I am afraid of blowing more speakers.
The sounds are so real, I actually believe that my cellphone is ringing in the next room, or someone is talking right outside my house... Then I mute the system to go grab the phone or look outside to only hear it stop.
Very realistic.
My only complaint is the setup is a little extensive in that you have to read the manual to do it. But once that is done... you dont have to worry about it again.

With so many HDMI inputs I can plug in all my components, and have only one cable to attach to my LCD TV. This, coupled with its effortlessly powering my surround sound speakers, It literally took only minutes for the Odessey to calibrate my speakers. I only have five, but look forward to adding an additional two. I couldnt be happier!

I am very happy with Onkyo the sound is very good CD, BD, Ipod I love this Onkyo. A plus is you can call them on a 800 number and they help you if you run into a problem, very cool. The only complaint I have is they could have done on screen with the Ipod. I have used stereo receivers before but this is the first one I ever purchased myself. I looked at a lot of different brands throughout my online research and the Onkyo models repeatedly got good reviews. I wanted something that had different speaker options and lots of HMDI inputs for my games and other equipment - I have a PS2, PS3, Wii, and DVR box plugged in currently and they all work perfectly. I am using a set of Onkyo 7.1 speakers with the receiver and they sound great as well especially the subwoofer. Im currently using the surround speakers in the rear however this receiver can be configured to use two front height speakers, which I may try in the future.
Setup was extremely easy. For starters, the unit has an on-screen guide which makes configuration a breeze. Once your speakers are connected you also have the option of using the Audyssey feature to balance your sound frequencies. Simply plug in the supplied mic to the setup jack and start the config - it took me less than 15 minutes and came out pretty well, though I went back and manually increased the decibels on my surround speakers to get some more juice. It has an HDMI and headphone jack on the front, as well as an aux input that I use to plug my iPhoneiPod into. All in all it does everything I want it to and for under $400. I could literally sit and watch blu-rays all day long!!

The additional 10 watts of power was instantly noticeable when watching movies and much appreciated. Powering an entry level Onkyo 6.1 HT speaker system needing to upgrade. However, Zone 2 does not seem to put out as much power as the 605 did. Running Bose 10.2 towers and only achieving 60-70 volume. Zone 2 volume maxes at 80 and Im unable to find a setting to increase that. Thought I might invest in an amp but why I should not have to. Other than the weak Zone 2 Im pleased with this receiver.

So far my Onkyo has performed well. I cant say that Ive ever had any high end receivers but this one is definitely an upgrade from my last Sony. Granted that Sony was about 8 years old so technology has changed but I love being able to customize the input names so it actually says BluRayDVD or XBox 360 instead of Input 1 or Input 5 and how easy it is to switch between all the different inputs. No more switching inputs on the receiver and then on the tv because this one has so many hdmi ins you can simply run everything into the unit and then have one hdmi cable that runs to your tv and with the push of one button it reroutes the audio and video.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have an easy to use and relatively easy to set-up receiver with tons of hdmi inputs capable of 7.2 sound. It has a couple neat features that allows you to have the traditional 7.2 sound one center, two fronts, two mids, two rears, & two subs, or lets you put the two mid speakers above your fronts but makes them sound like theyre mids much easier than mounting more speakers in the middle of your ceiling. The last option allows you to port music to a separate pair of speakers in another room or in my case to my patio. Since those options can be changed on the fly its about two menus deep it really opens up options.
I have it hooked up to a pair of BIC towers, center, & sub & Im temporarily using some old theater in a box Sony speakers for my surrounds. So far that system including this receiver set me back about $1100 and will shake the room but I plan on adding a second BIC sub and getting some real speakers mounted in the ceiling to even out the sound.
My only complaint with this unit so far is that when Im watching DVDs the sound will randomly cut out for a second. It doesnt happen often and I wonder if it just needs a bigger opening to breathe but since it NEVER happens when I watch Blu-Rays or play my Xbox 360 Im assuming its not due to my mistake.

I bought one of these after returning a Denon 1709. This unit is a delight to own. After configuring the HDMI and speaker cables, I turned it on to hear beautiful music out all 7 speakers - without having to change anything. The manual is well written and organized. All of the features that I have tried, like Zone 2, worked perfectly with very little reading. I like to watch a ballgame on the TV while listening to music from an MP3 player. I could not figure out how to do this, so I called Onkyo. I left a number for a call-back, and a knowledgeable support person quickly understood my question, tried it out on a system there, and told me how to do it. He waited for me to try it, and I was listening in minutes. I have become an Onkyo fan!!
