I got my TX-SR875 today and I cannot be any happier. First, kudos to Vanns! Shipped out the same day, great price-no tax!, got 3 day free shipping, great packaging and last but not the least, I even got mine a day early...excellent service!
Now for this bad boy. An amazing piece of equipment. This is the third receiver I bought in a month and this one will definitely be the one I am keeping. First I got the TX-SR805. Dont get me wrong, that one is a great receiver. There are three things I look for in receivers nowadays. First, it should be able to handle the latest lossless codecs. Second, passes through 1080 24p without any issues. Third, an upscaler-deinterlacer built in. This is where I had a problem with the TX-SR805, which I did not know when I bought it. It only upscales analog video up to 720p. Unfortunately, 1080i signals are also downscaled to 720p, dont know why. So I decided to return it. Next I tried the Denon AVR-988 which is btw equivalent to AVR-2808CI. Also a great receiver and had the 3 prerequisites I mentioned and compared to the TX-SR805, this upscales to 1080p and does not downscale 1080i to 720p. So why did I get the TX-SR875? Well, compared to the Denon which has Faroudja DCDi which is ok, the TX-SR875 has the Reon-VX which is for me a better upscaler compared to the Faroudja. At least to me, the images from the Reon are sharper.
Some people might not like the idea of having non essential components in a receiver -less is more view - e.g. Marantz receivers-, but then again, it is a matter of preference and I am very happy with this purchase because I got all that I wanted. I like multi taskers. This is one of them and it does a great job doing it.
A few additional info. This bad boy is very very heavy. Compared to the Denon AVR-988 which is around 29 lbs, the TX-SR805 or TX-SR875 are at least 50 lbs. So one should be careful while moving them. Also, these new Onkyos run a little bit on the hot side. Ive heard some people saying its too hot for them, but for me its ok. I already knew that they are like this so I have it on the topmost rack of my audio pier -no additional shelf on top- so that it gets adequate ventilation. |

I TRADED MY MARANTZ SR-801 RECIEVER FOR THE ONKYO
TXSR-875 WHICH IS A VERY NICE RECEIVER IN ITS SELF, BUT HOLY COW THE ONKYO 875 JUST UNVAILD
THE FULL POTENTIAL OF MY PARADIGM SPEAKER SYSTEM.
AND THE UPCONVERSION OF THE REALTA VIDEO PROCESSER
IS AWESOME, I NEVER THOUGHT UPCONVERSION COULD
LOOK SO GOOD .
THIS UNIT FROM ONKYO IS A NO BRAINER !!!
