What More Could You Want?
Onkyo's TXSR805 home theater A/V receiver features THX Ultra2 certification, processing for the latest lossless multichannel audio formats like Dolby Digital Plus/TrueHD and DTS-HD, comprehensive video upconversion to HDMI, and compatibility with both XM and Sirius satellite radio programming. This new model also features Onkyo's new HDMI-based system control capability, 7 x 130 watts of power, enhanced compatibility with the Onkyo's optional iPod control docks (not included), and a flexible suite of multi-source/multi-zone capabilities. The TXSR805 amplification modules benefit from Onkyo's exclusive WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology), and Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, delivering 130 watts per channel into 8 ohm loads. The new dual push-pull amplifier configuration, coupled with a three-stage inverted Darlington circuit and top-of-the-line Burr-Brown DACs provide outstanding efficiency and high current with very low distortion. There are sturdy five-way binding posts for all seven full-range channels, and the rear surround channels can also be employed to provide a second set of Front L/R channels for speaker bi-amplification.
The HDMI You've Been Waiting For
The TXSR805's three 1080p and Deep Color capable HDMI v1.3a inputs provide the most advanced interface for transporting both uncompressed high definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. It's among the first receivers available to include decoding for Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master multichannel audio formats from Blu-Ray and HD-DVD players. In addition to its HDMI inputs, the Onkyo TXSR805 includes three HD (100 MHz) bandwidth component video, six S-Video, and six composite video inputs to accommodate other sources. There is upconversion of all composite and S-video inputs to both HDMI and HD-quality component video to eliminate the need for multiple redundant video connections to modern video displays. For displays that are not compatible with 480i video, the receiver also provides Faroudja DCDi de-interlacing circuitry to convert 480i signals to 480p progressive scan. There are a total of six digital audio inputs, a phono input, as well as seven A/V and two audio-only analog inputs. Front panel A/V inputs, including an optical digital audio jack, allow easy connection of A/V or audio devices such as a camcorder or portable MP3 player.
THX Performance Designed In
From early design concepts to product rollout, THX and Onkyo worked together to ensure every detail of this receiver was mapped to the THX performance standards. And THX engineers spent countless hours testing and analyzing for sound quality, usability and interoperability. Awarded THX Ultra2 certification, the TXSR805 demonstrates that it has met the rigorous design and performance standards set by THX. Every certified receiver includes a number of proprietary THX technologies, designed to compensate for the acoustical errors that occur when movies, music, and games are translated from the professional studio to the home environment. For the end user, the THX standards enhance the overall system's ability to present movies exactly the way they were mixed by the filmmaker on the dubbing stage; and the additional listening modes that enhance playback performance of music, movies, and video games. Furthermore, THX Adaptive Speaker Array (ASA) technology optimizes playback of multichannel movies, music, and video games. THX Ultra2 also includes the THX Surround EX decoder, which enables sound mixers to encircle the audience with 360-degree pans, more realistic fly-overs, and ambient sound effects.
Get In The Zone
This is one of the first Onkyo A/V receivers to include the company's RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) communication protocol that allows for automatic integration of many system control functions between compatible components via the HDMI connection. RIHD is also compatible with Toshiba's CE-Link enabled 2007 Regza LCD TV line and Panasonic's EZ-Sync TV line, as well as similar protocols from other manufacturers to be announced later. Common functions include one-button system on/standby control, volume control punch-through from display remote control to the A/V receiver, and a direct change function that automatically selects the correct receiver input and begin playback for RIHD source components. The TX-SR805 features Onkyo's Powered Zone 2 capability, which can be used to power stereo speakers in a second room while listening to 5.1-channel sound in the main zone thanks to a dedicated set of zone 2 L/R speaker terminals. The receiver is capable of processing separate multichannel and stereo sources simultaneously for the main and second zone, or processing a single source for both. There's also a zone 3 pre-out that can be used in conjunction with a dedicated zone amplifier or receiver.
Iliad And Audyssey MultiEQ XT
With unquestionably no relation to Homer's epic poems of the Trojan War, Audyssey MultiEQ XT automatic speaker calibration provides remarkable improvements in performance by calibrating the home theater system to its acoustical environment. With this system, the included calibration microphone is used to analyze the system's acoustical output at up to eight unique positions in the listening area. By taking readings in different locations in the theater room, with the microphone placed at the listening positions, the receiver sends test signals to each speaker in turn, then uses the input from the microphone to adjust both frequency response and time domain corrections for each speaker throughout the entire listening area, rather than just at a single position.
Now You Make The Choice
Time was when A/V receiver manufacturers selected either XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio compatibility for their products, but no more. Onkyo's TX-SR805 makes it easier than ever to bring satellite radio into the living room, featuring compatibility with both XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio programming. The addition of an optional antenna/tuner system for either service enables you to subscribe to and receive hundreds of channels of commercial-free music, news, talk, and entertainment programming. (Satellite radio hardware, subscription, and activation are not included; service and activation fees apply.) The TXSR805 receiver even includes onboard Neural-THX Surround processing for decoding of multichannel XM HD surround programming. This new surround sound technology allows for broadcast content to be transmitted in a two-channel format, and later decoded for up to 7.1 discrete audio channels, as well as enabling 7.1-channel audio support for many modern video gaming consoles. There's also a high quality terrestrial radio tuner built-into the TX-SR805 with 40 random presets for AM, FM, XM, or SIRIUS stations.
Get Big Sound From Your Little iPod
Onkyo designed this receiver to take complete advantage of the company's optional Remote Interactive iPod dock/charger units (not included). With the iPod placed in the dock, it becomes a source component for not only audio playback, but also for photography stored in iPod photo units. Basic iPod controls such as play, pause, stop, skip, and random/repeat functions can all be operated via the TXSR805's preprogrammed learning back-lit remote control.

A very clean sounding receiver with lots of power and the room EQ feature is great. The only drawback is the Pure DirectDirect Mode. When listening to audio CDs in this mode, the sound quality is improved but you lose the subwoofer out. You must play in the Stereo mode to get the sub out. So if you have a less than a full range set of front speakers, you will lose the bass output in this mode. I did confirm this with Onkyo. I had a Denon 3805 which the Onkyo replaced, that would output the subwoofer in the Pure Direct mode. Other than that, this receiver is well underpriced for its features and sound quality.

I got a great price of very nearly 30 percent off MSRP here at Vanns. Could not be happier with the purchase. Future proof receiver with 3-1.3 HDMI inputs. Very easy to setup with the Audyssey Mic which calculates distances and room specifics of 8 positions. This 130 WPC this 7.1 channel BEAST and I mean BEAST, drives even my demanding speakers. Great place to start a upgrade of your HT. Easy color coded speaker hook-up. The lighted remote will replace 5 others.I could not be more pleased. IT ROCKS !

I ordered my receiver on a Wednesday at 400 PM and my receiver showed up the following Monday via Fed Ex.
This is my 2nd purchase from Vanns, and both times I have been extremely satisfied with they way my orders have been handled.
This receiver is my first Onkyo purchse. After being a long time owner of another manufacturers products I thought I would try something new.
This receiver was hundreds less than other similarily configured models I looked into, but I am not one bit unsatisfied with it.
The setup was extremely easy via the onscreen GUI which was output via the HDMI connector, and I was up an running in no time.
The research I did let me to think this unit was going heat my room for me. My unit is in an open rack but only has a few inches of clearance and is barely warm to the touch.
Excellent receiver for the money - but keep in mind it only de-interlaces the 480i signals - the others just get passed through, so if you want your signals processed and upgraded you may want to spend the extra money on the 875.

Ordered on Friday night and received this Onkyo TX-SR805 on the following Friday afternoon via FedEx. Out of box and running within an hour - very good instructions and support docs for a complex set up - especially if you follow their instructions exactly as written.
I have mine installed in a 7.1 system with a Hitachi 57 inch UltraVision HD-PTV, cable TV and a Toshiba HD - A3 high definition upconverting DVD player.
Both the HD and standard definition DVD playback is excellent and the sound is simply outstanding.
Other reviews have said that the receiver runs hot - well this one runs slightly warm after a couple of hours of 7.1 movie processing in a cabinet that is open in both front and back - about five inches open above and open about three inches on both sides.
Vanns customer service rep was very knowledgeable and helpful in answering my prebuying questions and explained the extended warranty to my complete satisfaction I opted for the five year Vanns extended warranty for an additional $50.
My unit was shipped on Monday and arrived - double boxed - without any visible damage - via FedEx - on Friday. The shipping tracking notice sent via email on Tuesday and there was absolutely NO reference to Vanns being the seller or shipper so I could follow my shipments progress via computer.
This receiver replaced a six year old Denon 3802 - and the performance increase - both in features and quality of output sound is very noticeable. The very reasonable cost of the unit vs the features makes this a truly remarkable buy - and I would recommend it to anybody.
Thanks Vanns for a all around good purchasing experience.
