I bought the 806 from Vanns to replace my 7 yr old Denon AVR-3300 which is still a great unit.
I wanted to get up to date on connections for TVBlueray,HDMI,,, you just have to do that every 5-10 years right Honey. In use 3 weeks now and no negatives. I believe it does out perform my Denon by a fair margin. I think the other reviewer was right, he just got a goofie unit. Hope all goes like mine for his replacement.

Noting it has been several years since setting up my previous set, I almost let the thought of new setup overwhelm me. But, taking it all, a step at a time, made it okay. Evening one was bundling and moving cables and chasing dust bunnies.
The next morning, with Saturday coffee in hand, it was SETUP day!
I did the Audyssee speaker setup first, then sat down for a couple of lost hours to listen to a variety of tunes on CD but hey Ti-i-i-me is on my side, yes it is!
Then when I resumed, I went through the full on screen TV setup. The whole process is well thought out. I even used the manual which now has several pencil entries to prove it.
I did have to reconnect a device or two like I said, its been a long time.
So, now, HDTV, cable music channels, DVD, SACD, DVD audio and even FM are all fair and balanced!

I do wonder what was omitted to loose 12 lbs from the 805 model, but not having one, I guess I wont miss it. Maybe they cheaped out somewhere or did a little more tech stuff to keep same, but, to date, Im happy with my new unit. And hearing new stuff in old media!

I got prompt and attentive service from VANNS, and yes, would use them again if my people cant be competitive.
Oh, and I was really here just to see if Vanns has the new Sony BDP-5550? Nope, not yet, look again soon.

Please note that my present rating is based on my issue described below. But the unit is a great value for the price when compared to other brands.

I purchased this unit through Vanns on Aug. 30th. I received the unit on Sept. 8th. Vanns was terrific on price and shipping. The unit setup was alright but this is not a unit for the novice because there are lots of details to be aware of. The Audyssey speaker setup worked great. The unit worked well for about 30 minutes but then it started playing DVDs at full blast, no matter what the audio setting was. The master volume control on the receiver indicated 0.0 db whereas the sound was too loud. Called Onkyo tech support who validated my connections to the DVD player. They had me reset the receiver by pressing the DVDVCR and Standby buttons in front of the receiver at the same time. This did not solve the sound issue. I am returning the unit to Vanns for a replacement. Here again, Vanns has come through excellent and has sent me the RMA the same day I requested.
I believe the unit is defective and I am hoping for better luck with the replacement.
