First of all, I have to say that purchasing this product from Vanns is the way to go. These guys have the internet sales model figured out. There are lots of options on the internet these days but only a handful that Id actually purchase from. Vanns is on the top of my list.

This Sony receiver is great! Ive used it a week now and am very happy with my purchase. One of the things I was looking for was something that would handle a variety of old and new technologies. This receiver lets me plug in all my old and new components and then reconfigure the inputs so that I can mix and match digital and analog as needed.

Eventually Ill send video out to an HDTV via a single HDMI cable but for now it down converts or passes composite video through to an older tv. Yes, I need a new TV but this device doesnt care. It can handle anything as far as I can tell. The audio is amazing from any source.

The graphical user interface displayed on the TV is great. Gone are the days of trying to configure the receiver by navigating complex menu structures using the small display on the receiver. The interface works just like the PS3 which is a huge selling point in my book.

Two remotes? Perfect! The little remote is all I need once the receiver has been configured. It has everything it needs for normal listening or viewing from any source. The last thing I wanted was a remote with a hundred buttons. I have enough remotes already sitting around.

In terms of cost, this receiver is on the upper end of what I wanted to spend. There are a lot of receiver options at half the price that would be fine for today but I wanted something that can handle all the new HD and Blue-ray standards so that Im not looking for something to replace this in several years. I looked at the Sony STR-DA3300ES also but finally decided on this model. Its got a lot of features Ill probably never use, but hey, 6 months from now maybe Ill find some other cool feature that I can enable.

Oh, one last thing, Im using 15 year old Bose speakers and theyre sounding better than ever. Ill upgrade my TV before doing anything with the speakers.
