I bought one of the ones that had been return. It was $136.00. They told me that the box may show a little wear and tear on it. It did. Inside it was perfect. Now about the value. It is kick posterior the money. I have a Velodye foundation series that I still use. It was $1,000.00 on 1992 dollars. This little inexpensive sub was a good challener. Didnt have that last 34 of an octave to it. But I was not expecting it. This is the one to buy if you on a budget and want awesome sound. I hooked it up with a pair on inexpensive Paradigm Titans. You have to spend a LOT more money to a little more sound.
Now about Vanns.
Ordering was easy. I had one question that was not covered on line. I called got a quick answer.
Ordered that day. Was here way before I expected it. I figured with no shipping charge it would come by stage coach in a month or two. Ordered on the 15th. Delived on the 18th. And no sales tax.
Why would you buy this sort of thing anywhere else?

I purchased this sub to replace a Pioneer Home Theater in a box solution. The former setup had a 6.5 subwoofer that was powered by the receiver essentially just a speaker in a ported enclosure.
I expected this sub to substatially outperform the Pioneer, but it literally blows it away! I have it tucked away out of sight minus the coax cable running to it from the receiver and this thing produces a substantial amount of bass and remains clean.
I have it hooked up to my Onkyo TX-SR606 and ran its calibration feature to properly setup the speakers. Afterward, I popped in a BluRay test disc that has a variety of scenes on it action, dialog, etc.
This sub reproduces explosions extremely well and provides the boom that my former setup was missing. You actually feel them instead of just hearing them. Music reproduction is very nice and smooth. I listen to a lot of rock and metal music and it kept up with the most violent of double kick bass as well as helping the Bass guitar cut through like it should on older classic rock tunes ACDC, ZZ Top, etc..
The automatic power onoff feature is very nice and works quite well. There is about a 5 second delay from when the reciever powers on before it will turn on though. Depending on the programming that is on when you first turn on your receiver, you may or may not notice this. My cable box sends audio signal as soon as it turns on, so once the receiver turns on, I can hear the mids and highs and a few seconds later the sub will turn on.
I would definitely recommend this sub to anyone who is looking to add a little thump to thier system and not break the bank. |

The Velodyne VX-10 is a fantastic subwoofer at a bargain price. The unit is well constructed and performs at a level you would expect from Velodyne. The volume and crossover knobs have a very smooth and solid feel.
Hooking it up and setting the levels for the crossover and volume was easier than unpacking it from the box. The VX-10s phase button allows for adjusting the bass output for mismatched components at the push of a button. In addition to the line level connections, there are also speaker level connections which are a must have for receivers that do not offer line level output. The auto sensing power device works great. The light glows orange when in stand-by and green when in use. This sub is small enough that it can be easily hidden behind a couch or chair.
The VX-10 is both pleasing to the eyes and ears. It performs head and shoulders above my other subwoofer, which was twice the price. I played the most bass challenging CD that I have, Miles Davis, Doo-Bop and it handled the low end flawlessly.
The Velodyne VX-10 is an incredible entry-level subwoofer. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get solid performance without breaking the bank. The only option missing is a remote control, but for the sale price I paid, $169, it was delivered to my doorstep within 3 days, and it looks and sounds great, I couldnt be happier! |

This was the only thing I really wanted for Christmas. Well, maybe also a new golf bag. Having done business with Vanns before, I had high expectations. Well, the bar has been set a little higher! The subwoofer is wonderful, Vanns does exactly as they say, life is wonderful! My first subwoofer was a disappointment from JBL. It died after about 2 yrs. I went without for about a year, when I realized something was missing from my home theater experience. I ordered the VX-10 and set it up using the suggestions from the manufacturer. My wife noticed the subwoofer gently kick in on a HBO movie on DirectTV! My DVDs are rockin again. Music is as it should be, with the beautiful bass sounds that are FELT gently, not HEARD. However, when the need is there, my windows rattle and my dog barks because she cant tell where the sound is coming from. Thank you, Velodyne. Thank you Vanns. |

Just received the Velodyne VX-10. Havent had much time to review its performance, but, connecting it my system was easy. The initial performance of the subwoofer was excellent. The response smooth and even. This subwoofer was purchased for a secondary system. I also have a larger Velodyne subwoofer on my main system. That unit has performed exceptonally well. My expectations is that the VX-10 will, also. |

Well to begin with I was at AHH, when I pulled it out of it package. The cabinet came in sleek black, which is great for my speaker set up. The subwoofer it self is wonderful and easy to hookup. Before I had got this sub I was using a yamaha yst-130. Wow the VX 10 blew away by far the yamaha yst -130. When playing warhawk in the PS3 connection optical cable reciver running DTS. Gunning the flak turrents you can feel the shells just rip away, it was awsome. Also the PS3 has SUPER CD player for your music. So when I play Rap, Rock etc..the bass is tight and clear. So do I recommed this Subwoofer!! Heck yeah Velodyne makes such a great Sub for the a great price. |

I just received my Velodyne VX-10 Subwoofer today. I put it in its place and hooked it up. Not a word from the wife. This speaker looks nice and the quality of the material used is excellent. One little quirk that I hope will work its self out, is when you turn on your receiver initially it takes 5 minutes for the lite on the back of the subwoofer to turn from red to green before the subwoofer starts too work. I have it hooked up to the subwoofer out on my Onyko 803 with a Monster subwoofer cable and a Y splitter to the left & right terminal of the subwoofer. Velodyne recommends this type of hookup. Once the VX-10 turns on, it sounds great. I am still trying to find the correct adjustment for the low-pass crossover, phase adjustment and volume gain control. Currently I have the low-pass filter set at 80 HZ, Phase Adjustment at 0 and VolumeGain at 5. This subwoofer really puts out the bass and it sounds very clean. For the price you cant go wrong. Perfect subwoofer for an average size room. I have noticed that the more I use the VX-10, quicker it turns on. I might give Velodyne a call. I have seen other reviews that have mentioned this issue. I am quite happy with my purchased and my experience dealing with Vanns.

Yes, like most people I was kind of hesitant in purchasing a sub of which I did not hear of. But I hooked it to my Onkyo Surround Sound Receiver TX-SR303 and at first I had to adjusted. Man I turned on the double bass option and WOW. The living room has wood flooring with mirrors on the walls. I feared the mirrors were going to fall off. I am pleased with this purchase. I don't need any more bass than that. |

To be completely honest, I purchased the Velodyne VX-10 with low expectations. The previous speakers I was using - a 23 year old pair of Pioneer 3-way speakers with 12' woofers - finally deteriorated, and I was left in a pinch to get a new system built 'on-the-cheap.' I knew bookshelf speakers wouldn't have the low end power to satisfy me, so I squeezed a bit more budget out to include a subwoofer. I settled on the VX-10 for its great price and the fact that it was a brand I had heard of before.
After receiving the subwoofer, I played around with placement options and played a few tones over it to level it out with the new bookshelf speakers. I set the system crossover to 80hz, and ran it at moderate volume to break it in. Time came to see what it really sounded like, and what I heard blew me away.
I subjected it to the onslaught of metal CD's and LP's, pipe organ recordings, DVD-Audio, and SACD, with pounding kick-drums over sustained roars of bass, bowel-shaking pipe organ lows, and thunderous orchestral kettle drums over arpeggios of fast-paced percussion. Not once did the quick transients get lost in the mix. The subwoofer delivers tight, tuneful bass with music, and with proper placement, is completely transparent to the bookshelf speakers, and remains in complete cohesion until volume levels higher than I'd ever listen to it for sustained periods. The same stellar performance translated to movies, offering rich, powerful explosions and floor shaking effects.
What really surprised me, though, is how much more overall life the entire system had, after the VX-10 liberated the bookshelf speakers from their bass load, and how seamlessly the speakers and subwoofer blended together. The bookshelf speakers' midranges really had the opportunity to sing, now freed of the low frequency load.
My only complaints with this woofer, and I have to struggle to come up with any, would be the power cable isn't removable, and the automatic turn on, which is the only turn on-off option available here, could be a bit more sensitive in sensing when it should turn on. Keeping it on isn't a problem, however.
For this kind of musicality, extension, and output, you could easily expect to pay twice as much. The VX-10 is easily one of the best bargains in subwoofers, and if you're in the market for a budget subwoofer, do not miss the chance to audition this piece. |

While many who are shopping for a sub-woofer are probably looking to complete a home theater set-up, I bought the VX-10 mostly to enhance my sound system. Our children certainly watch their share of DVDs but we also listen to lots of music at home. The VX-10 has added substantial depth and richness to the music we play, whether it's Mendelssohn or Bob Marley. Of course, the home theater experience now includes all the room-shaking rumbles we could have hoped for. It's hard to believe a sub at this price can sound so strong and clean, and be so well made. Velodyne has a reputation as the top sub maker, and it's easy to see why. This is a great product. The free Fed-Ex delivery got the unit here in less time than was estimated. The overall shopping experience with Vann's could not have been easier. |

The VX-10's are the bargain of the year in subs. A very musical subwoofer, rear ported, but not really fussy about placement in my room. I have owned Sony , AR and the 12' Harmon Kardon HK-12 sub. In my room they were boomy sonic mush. While the VX-10 is only rated down to 36 Hz, but beyond the hearing capability of many, it will willingly blow the windows out on a heavy volume Pipe organ chord, and overcome the sonic difficulties of Acoustic bass. After 35 years of being a Hi-Fi buff, you have to get lucky sometimes. These were much better than I expected for the money, and I doubt that you will find a more musical sub under $500.Velodyne is among the avante guard in subwoofer technology in my opinion. |

I love the room shaking tight high quality bass that this unit produces. I previously used a JBL subwoofer and it just does not compare to this Velodyne. If you are in the market for a subwoofer and want quality at a great price, this deal cannot be beat as I did the research! This 10' front firing subwoofer has 100 watts rms with controls to fit any size room and even shuts itself down to save power when not in use! I seriously doubt anyone can find a better value when comparing quality, features, and most importantly price. |
