Terrific Tweeter

These bookshelf speakers, like all Northridge E Series speakers, feature a titanium-laminate-dome tweeter, made from 75 percent titanium deposited on a lightweight substrate for high strength and rigidity along with excellent transient response, clarity, resolution and power-handling capability. Higher frequency sounds come through clean and clear, not distorted or "tinny". The tweeter operates in conjunction with JBL's redesigned Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS) waveguide, which directs sound toward the listening area and away from the side walls for a wider sound field, which means even greater imaging. The difference made by the improved EOS waveguide is most noticeable in even more realistic surround sound effects with your favorite movies, and music recorded in exciting new multi-channel formats. Wonderful Woofer

Lower quality speakers have trouble keeping up with high energy music and soundtracks, especially when there are big, sudden swings or changes (aka transients). An over worked speaker will "clip" sound it can't reproduce and if driven too hard, the cones will lose their shape causing distortion. As a result, you don't hear some of the sounds you should and what you do hear doesn't so good. The low frequency transducers in these E20 Northridge E Series speakers utilize cones made from JBL's professionally proven PolyPlas polymer-coated-cellulose-fiber cone material, which combines the sonic neutrality of paper with the added rigidity of the PolyPlas treatment to dampen internal resonance and provide a smooth frequency response with faster transients. PolyPlas cones strike the perfect balance between having enough rigidity to hold their shape and enough flexibility to keep up with the music. That's why PolyPlas cones make such a huge difference. You hear all you should and it's all good. Strong, responsive PolyPlas transducers enable higher playback levels without distortion so even at maximum power, your E20 speakers will sound great. Complementing the innovative cone technology, the low frequency driver also features JBL's HeatScape motor structure, which provides efficient heat dissipation for accurate driver performance even during high-volume playback. Keeping the drivers cool also helps prolong their life so you can get even more enjoyment from your JBL speakers.

All In One Great Package

The IsoPower baffle design used in Northridge E series speakers rigidly affixes the drivers to an extremely dense, non resonant baffle. This allows for maximum air movement and energy to be generated by the drivers, while minimizing energy loss. These E20 bookshelf speakers feature high-strength, high-density enclosures that have been specially braced and damped for minimal internal vibration. These computer-designed, lock-mitred cabinets virtually eliminate distortion and their slim profile fits neatly into your decor so as not to shake up your scene.

Performance Packed Front to Back

Many modern speakers use what is known as a port to produce bigger sound from smaller speakers. But, just cutting an extra hole in the speaker does not a proper port make. JBL's FreeFlow Port Architecture utilizes a computer optimized flared aperture that is tuned to the woofer and cabinet for extended low-frequency response and improved efficiency. This lets the bass kick freely, without audible "port noise". Sturdy gold plated, 5-way binding posts provide a secure connection and superior signal flow. From the baffles to the bass port, it all adds up to speakers that make the most of every watt you feed them, to provide a most satisfactory listening experience.

Straight-Line Signal Path

The drivers (transducers) in these E20 bookshelf speakers are purpose-designed to match each other efficiently in frequency response so that little manipulation of the audio signal is required in the crossover network. This allows the use of a minimal number of high-quality electrical components in a shorter, simpler signal path. Because the signal undergoes very little processing in the crossover network, the clarity, detail and dynamics of the original content are preserved. The further you run, the less energy you have when you arrive at your destination. Audio signals are the same way. By simplifying and shortening the signal path, JBL engineers made sure that the signals traveling through your Northridge E Series speakers don't lose any of their power and realism along the way. The simplified design of JBL's signal path also produces more efficient and accurate separation of highs and lows. With the high and low frequencies isolated, the transducers in each E20 speaker are able to do a superior job of reproducing all your audio. High to low and all points between, JBL speakers give you more of what you buy speakers for.

I've very happy with my E20's. Currently, I have them as my Front RL on a 7.1 Pioneer 1014TX receiver, with JBL SCS150 surrounds and sub and a EC35 Center - The sound is excellent. Someday I plan to move the E20's to the surrounds, and get floorstanding for my fronts, which makes me appreciate their versitility. The sound quality is very good, my receiver is rated at 110w X 7 and I have had no clipping or noticable distortion. I would highly recommend.

I also purchased these for my Surround System. My Onyko 610 Reciever. Everything you read about the description is accurate. No clipping, not tinny sounding, just great sound reproduction. My DVD has never this good! As stated by another reviewer, the Customer Service at Vann's is excellent! I first purchased the E10's. They just didn't work out. Called Vann's. No problem with exchanging, just great customer service. I will always check with Vann's first when my next need arises. Thanks Vann's!!!!

I bought these to replace my JBL Pro III's I purchased 17 years ago, and I made the right choice. I use them in my surround system to complement the other JBL's. Sounds great and the service from Vann's was awesome. Their service is rare these days and I enjoy their honesty and way they do business in a courtious manner.
