Energyze your home audio
Since no two installations are ever alike, every RC-LCR speaker includes port plugs, so that the speaker can also be installed in a cabinet or bookshelf. These plugs ensure the smoothest frequency response is achieved, reproducing the emotion of every recording. The no-compromise design delivers the smoothest, most natural sound available, with great looks. Don't settle for less than perfection.
With this speaker, bass is a reflex
A speaker's enclosure or cabinet plays just an important role in a speaker's ability to reproduce clear, accurate sound as do a speaker's drivers. Poorly designed or constructed enclosures can resonate with the air moving at the rear side of a speaker's drivers, ultimately causing degradation of the sound you hear. Both reducing the risk of residual resonance and improving low-frequency audio output, the Energy RCLCR sports a bass-reflex enclosure. Also known as "vented" or "ported" enclosures, bass reflex enclosures use open ports or apertures in the speaker cabinet to control the movement of air at a driver's rear. Control of this movement of air allows a reduction in its ability to cause distortion and resonance and also helps to extend and improve bass efficiency and performance from the woofer drivers. With the RCLCR, high-performance bass is a reflex.
Maximum performance tips
The center channel speaker needs to be centrally located so that the dialogue appears to be coming from the center of the screen. It needs to be above or below the monitor, as closely to it as possible. If you're using a rear projection television, the most likely option is to place it above the screen. If you have a front projection system, you have choices — stand mounting, or placement on furniture, for example. It is important, though, to place the speaker so that its front edge is even with the edge of the shelf or stand supporting it. Unwanted diffraction occurs when the center channel is too far back into a cabinet or other surface with edges that could impede sound dispersion.
Psychoacoustics — Energy is crazy about sound
Energy's passion for and dedication to the reproduction of sound has a long history. Beginning back in the 1970s, Energy participated in nearly a decade of pioneering research into psychoacoustics, attempting to identify those measurable factors listeners associate with a "good-sounding" loudspeaker. Flat frequency response, wide dispersion, and low distortion, they concluded, were the primary factors influencing a listener's perception of the realism of sound produced by a speaker. Consequently, Energy has spent the past thirty years furthering research and applying research-based principles to their engineering and manufacturing of high-performance loudspeakers for the home audio enthusiast.

Product was shipped exactly as described. I am still breaking in the speaker, but at this point I am very pleased. The vocals are a major upgrade over a HTIB Onkyo center that I had left over. My system is as follows Onkyo 876 receiver, Energy RC-50 fronts, and Energy RC mini surrounds. I would definitely recommend this product. Thanks for the great price, Vanns!

I have replaced a twenty year old Kef center speaker with the above speaker. I thought that the old speaker sounded great, until i replaced it with the Energy speaker. The difference was incredible. The new speaker adds a dimension that I have never heard before. It adds a base note that enhances the sub woofer dramatically. This is a great speaker and the price is really what sold me on it. I dont think the finance committee wife would have approved it had the original price been on it. If you are looking for a great buy this is it!!!

The speaker just rocks. At $250 you just cant go wrong. Very well built, looks great on the stand and the sound is excellent straight from the box. Ofcourse you have to break-in the speaker by using it for about 60hrs at medium volume. mine gets better everyday i listen to it. im planning to leave for the weekend and just let it play to break-in faster. Overall, very good reproduction of sound. Couple it with a subwoofer and youve got an excellent full rance center channel or left and right channells.

I wouldnt go as far as to pretend Im an audiophile snob, but I know good quality sound when I hear it. After following the proper break-in procedures I wired it into my right front speaker playing a shuffled mix of about 4000 songs of all genres at moderate volume for 4 days straight, while I stayed at my girlfriends place, I am literally blown away. I already knew what I was getting into as I already owned a pair of the RC-70 towers - best speakers ever made under $2000 a piece, if you can bi-amp them - hands down - so I had to toss out my old little Mission 70c1 centre and pick one of these up. I heard a demo model at a local store when it was fresh out of the box and the salesman pretty much destroyed it by blaring it to show off right away. These speakers neeeeeed to be warmed up before you can really open them up. Sound staging is excellent, all the vocals and effects sound as lifelike as the audio masters from Dolby and Dts wanted them to be, and the sound dispersion is great at any angle. I would definitely advise using the port plugs if you need to keep it close to the wall and are using a sub, or the bassy vocal sections can sound a little bit boomy. Thats not a flaw at all, just a set-up note. Build quality is extremely good and its a nice touch to have the magnetic logo to be switched from centre to leftright if you were using a pair of these as fronts or surrounds. If you are using them as a pair of fronts, I would suggest getting a sub with them to match all that powerful mid-range and high-end with some good warm thump, but thats up to your taste and budget. As a centre channel, alone, this speaker would absolutely shine paired with any brand of speaker because centre is what you want accurate sonic truth from, and this RC-LCR delivers, but Im even more happy to have it paired up with my other matching RC series. Thank goodness theyre discontinued because that deal is SMOKING hot! Buy one while you can..

The purchase of a big screen TV almost mandates an upgrade in the sound system thus I replaced an old set of Infinity using the Energy RCLCR as both front and center speaker. I had concerns that the smaller size would not be as rich as the larger being replaced but was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and tone these speakers produce. Matching the 3 speakers provides a perfect balance and direction of sound. Using these as bookshelf speakers does require the provided baffle to prevent reverberation, but I find no loss in range as a result. Highly recommended.

After convincing myself that a pair of Energy RC-70s were in my future I was not sure if another RC-70 should be had for a center channel or the RC-LCR would suffice. After hearing a friends set-up I decided that the RC-LCR would be a fine addition to my RC-70s. The two speakers are closely timbre matched, but not perfectly and that seems to anchor up-front speech well to the center channel. I couldnt be any more happier with my Energys.

I replaced my old Infinity RS5 center with the RCLCR due to space limitations and aesthetics. The RCLCR isserving as the center for my ht and is paired with RS10 L&R fronts an RC minis as the surrounds as well as a ed sub. The sound is very clear, smooth and very pronounced. This is one heck of a center. The speaker in black is not nearly as nice as the cherry. This is my first upgrade in 10 years so I did a ton of research and am glad I ended up with the Energys. I am pleased by the speaker quality, the value and the service at Vanns.

The RCLCR upgraded my Energy Take Classic. The size is imposing and could be tough to fit in some entertainment centers. After 50 hour break-in, the sound is NOT bright, but a smooth, almost warm tone. It delivers good, detailed, full sounding dialog and vocal music. The clarity is excellent. The dispersion angle is ample, but you can detect some tonal shifts at the outer boundaries of the normal listening space. I tried locating the RCLCR in various positions and adjustment angles and I could never tame the slight boomy, muddy bass, so I had to use the port plugs. That solved the boominess, but at the expense of some low end tones. The rosenut finish is superb and is the equal to the best of my rosewood furniture. The rosenut is high grade furniture finish and, even if at the same price as the black finish, this is clearly the better value. My shipment came fast, double boxed, and in great shape.
