These speakers are what makes up the rest of the sound field. I use these as surround speakers, I already had a pair and need anther pair to make my 7.1 setup complete. These speakers are sweet and have a great range. These speakers are happy playing together with a surround system or playing as stand alone speakers. Nice size speakers and they are not heavy as one would think by their appearance.

Bookshelf sized, nice but perhaps not exactly robust sound. I added a sub-woofer to augment their performance, which was all that was need to created a reasonably-priced, nicely-performing bookshelf system for my small office that is, a sub-woofer, the Sony speakers, and a Yamaha CRX330BL - plus, the Yamaha has an easy connection to add the sub-woofer. I took that hook-in as a hint as to the poweroutput of the system.
All-in-all, this is very nice and nicely-priced bookshelf system for a small room - for example, my 10 ft. by 12 ft. work space.

After noticing I had an impedance mismatch with my previous rear channel speakers, I was looking for a smallish pair of well-reviewed speakers with 8 ohm impedance. These did the trick. I dont know that Id say they sound incredible, but they are perfectly adequate, especially at this price point. The speakers are a bit larger than I might have thought, particularly given their description as diminutive, but Im sure if Id bothered to look at the actual measured dimensions I would have found them to be accurate. If youre looking for a pair of solid, responsive bookshelf speakers at a lowreasonable price, you could do much worse. No complaints here.

THE PRICE WAS ALSO GOOD, AND I WOULD RECOMMEND ANYONE TO TRY THEM WITHOUT BEING OUT OF TOO MUCH MONEY. VANNS.COM SERVICE IS ALWAYS GREAT! THE ONLY CON IS THEY DO NOT HAVE A BRACKET TO HANG ON THE WALL...AFTERALL, THEY ARE BOOKSHELF SPEAKRS.

I purchased a pair of Sony SB-1000 bookshelf speakers to use as rear surround speakers to complement my existing Sony FS-5000 and front LR pair and CN-5000 center channel. The SB-1000s make excellent rear speakers provided you have a full size pair of speakers up front. Clean looks and the noticeable absence of any cheap-looking shiny plastic make for a nice improvement over similarly priced competitors. The sound quality is excellent as with all Sony speakers I have heard. These speakers have a voice similar to Sonys larger speakers and shift between front and rear produces no odd changes in tone, etc. They were not as loud as I expected and I did have to adjust the surround levels on my receiver to get a good surround effect. However, I was unable to experiment with another receiver to see if this was simply due to my receivers rear channel output volume.

Bought these as surrounds and they work just fine. I based my decision on already having an earlier model of these as my computer speakers, connected to an amp of course. Love them! If using as mains you will certainly need a sub-woofer but as surrounds they work just fine as they are. No real complaints about these inexpensive speakers. You cant find a better performing bookshelf speaker at 2 x the price! If you are looking to rock the house then buy a bigger speaker with bigger woofers but if you need surrounds or for use in a small room or for computer use these are the BOMB! They sound amazing for the size!

I bought these to use in a travel trailer. The size is about right. The amp for these speakers is a small Dayton Class T amp. This amp will run these speakers at a reasonable volume using 100 mA of 12 volt power. And the speakers sound very nice using an iPod as a source.
You will not get deep bass with these speakers, but they have a a clean quality that makes them easy to listen to for a few hours. I like mid-range speakers for casual listening.
I think driving a pair of speakers like this will give you better sound than any of the computer type speakers, or the ipod speaker systems, and you can probably get these with a small amp for a very reasonable price. Consider the Dayton DTA-1 or some of the Pyle Pro amps.
These are nice looking speakers, and they include a set of tinned connecting cables. Id recommend them to anyone who knows enough to put together the whole package, which is often just adding an amp, maybe an MP3 player, and the right cables.

I purchased these speakers after reading a lot of positive reviews at Vann's and other sites. I was looking to replace some Klipsch Quintets which were used primarily for the Presence side of my Yamaha HTR 5890 Receiver. The Quintets were OK but they were too small to handle the power when I cranked up the music. I have them sitting on top of some AR Tower speakers and I was really surprised how much these little speakers punched out. They really add a lot of extra sound nicely and fill the large den with more of a complete sound envelope. I am not sure how well they would work as stand-alones but in my particular surround sound format I am pleased with the purchase at a cost that did not make me regret. As always, Vann's is an excellent business...shipping was very quick and packaging was 100 safe. I would highly recommend these little giants to complete a surround sound system when your on a tight budget!!!

I bought these speakers to use for the rear set in my 5.1 system. I have a full Sony set with the SS-F5000 fronts, SS-CN5000 Center, and SA-W2500 Sub. These speakers do a good job for the purpose I needed, but I dont think I would recommend them for use as a primary pair. They could also be good for background music in a room, but nothing you would want to have the main focus on. The sound quality is good for surrounds, and they match perfectly with the voices of my other Sony speakers.

I bought these speakers as a replacement for old satellite speakers. I was very impressed with the sound output for such a small speaker, and low price. I listened to many speakers in the store and for the money you could not even come close to beating these in value. Higher price does not always mean better. I also liked the look of them, they are very basic and clean cut.

Ive received two pairs of the Sony SSB1000 speakers, two front and two rear and are using them along with a Polk Audio sub-woofer filling out the low end.. They are being powered by an Onkyo Stereo receiver Model TX-8255.
They were inexpensive. Having said that, you get what you pay for. Theyre probably not going to rock your world, but at this modest price, you shouldnt expect them to. For a fairly small speaker enclosure, I was surprised by the low end response when I turned off the sub-woofer. On the other hand, the highs are not as crisp as I would like, and the speakers have a bit of a mid-range honk to them. This could probably be remedied by adding a graphic EQ to the system and doing some fine-tuning.
But..., for this price, I really dont want to nit-pick too much. Theyre getting the job done for now until the inevitable upgrade.

I purchased these to replace the front speakers on a Polk Audio home theater speaker set I have. I didnt have high expectations, but I did expect them to output a much wider range and fuller sound then my current speakers... I was a bit let down when I discovered that the sound was only slightly enhanced from my previous setup, but at the expense of a much larger and heavier speaker. I ended up deciding to stick with my current surround sound speakers.
