Mythos Gem XL loudspeakers take the style and elegance of the Mythos Series, with curved, hand-polished aluminum enclosures, and deliver it up in a compact, high performance model that is perfect for use as a surround speaker in a Mythos system, or as the main left or right channel in a compact sub/sat system. The Gem, which utilizes an angled baffle design and complex Linkwitz-Riley crossover network, delivers wide dispersion and excellent imaging with a deep soundstage. I purchased the mythos gem XML speakers about 3 weeks ago.i have been putting together a surround sound system for about a year. I have 3 mythos 10s for my center and two front speakers,and a super cube 6000 sub... I waited to replace my rear surround Speakers last.i did have definitive tech. Series 80 speakers that served me well for 10 yrs.i was very excited to complete My system.the sound quality coming out of the gem XML surprised me.the sound was so much fuller than I was expecting! I think it is due to the bi polar speaker configuration.the tweeters are rock solid.hi ends match up with the mythos 10s. I would definitely recommend the gem xls to my friends.also vanns has been great to deal with... Darran k. In Shreveport

Ordered two of these for surround speakers along with 3 Def Tech XTR-60s as the front right, left, and center speakers, and 2 Supercube III subs. I mounted mine on the wall slightly behind the main listening position. I would recommend you buy the separate wall mounts which allow you to aim the speakers. If you dont need to aim them, the supplied static wall mount will suffice. These speakers have no problems reproducing all of the surround effects with great accuracy and clarity. For me, they have more than enough bass output for good sound. Bass output was the reason I opted against the XTR-20s for my surround speakers. The black gloss looks beautiful and the speakers are small enough to where it wont dominate or detract from any wall decorations you might have nearby.

I would recommend these speakers to others. I would also strongly recommend Vanns for great prices and even better customer service.

The Definitive Gem XL are great speakers. They are great looking and solid built. There is a good brochure with it that has recommendations for the best placement and receiver settings. The offset of the speakers give a wide sound stage. I tried them as main speakers and my family liked them better than my AR910 speakers which are huge in comparison. I still prefer the full range speakers for the mains though. I purchased the Gem XLs for surround speakers and they do a great job. I am running them with a Denon 2800 series receiver but they dont really get a chance to perform near their capability. They are a great choice for the price.
