The two-way Cinema Select THX LCR in-wall speaker from Sonance combines two tweeters and one woofer to deliver clear, powerful audio from a subtle cabinet enclosure. First, the two silk-dome tweeters deliver crisp, detailed high-frequency reproduction enhanced by ferrofluid cooling for optimized performance. Second, the single 6.5" carbon-fiber-cone woofer with rubber surround balances the tweeters' high-frequency output with solid, controlled low-frequency bass effects. Who knew so much audio could fit in your wall?!
A final word: the cabinet
The reproduction of an audio signal by a speaker is the result of the movement and vibration of the speaker's drivers. Now, most of the vibration produced by a driver is desired — precisely because it is the audio you want to hear — but, the movement of the driver can also cause a speaker's enclosure to vibrate, producing unwanted resonance and distortion in whatever you're listening to. Seeking to minimize as much as possible this "less desirable" source of vibration, Sonance has designed the Cinema Select THX LCR speaker with a low-resonance MDF cabinet construction. Also known as Medium Density Fiberboard, MDF is specifically chosen for being an acoustically inert material, allowing it to provide extra bracing that dramatically reduces vibrations, and hence, distortion.
