In order for a speaker to produce sound, it needs to move air. In some cases, like today's multichannel movie soundtracks, speakers need to move a lot of air. The dual 5.25" woofers in this center channel speaker use a mineral filled injection molded Highly Oriented Polyolefin (HOP) material that improves the strength of the driver cone, minimizing distortion and providing better bass and mid-range reproduction.
Not forgetting the higher end of the spectrum, Sony uses a ferro fluid cooled tweeter design that transforms voice coil heat to magnetic circuits for better high power reproduction. The dome style tweeter is constructed of a special Nano composite that produces a tighter, smoother surface that decreases resistance and therefore creates less heat than traditional pulp compound tweeters. With broad frequency band and a wide operating temperature range, Nano composite is clearly superior, providing virtually flat response all the way up to 50kHz while low loss in the ultra high frequency above 20kHz is held to a minimum. Everything within your range of hearing is accurately reproduced to help you enjoy the soundtrack the way the director intended.
You want to position your center channel speaker above your TV, so dialog seems to come from the screen as in a movie theater. This may mean the most convenient location is directly on top of your television, or at least in very close proximity. With this in mind, this speaker is magnetically shielded to prevent magnetic fields within the speaker from interfering with the picture on the screen. Operating a non-shielded speaker too close to your TV and other sensitive components can actually cause damage (much like these same magnetic fields can damage the magnetic strips on credit cards). Be kind to your components, make sure your speakers are shielded.

This center channel is cheap in price $69 w free shipping and EXCELENT in quality! This thing has a good deep tone for deep voices, powerful mids and crisp highs. I cannot think of one bad thing about this thing. Any other big brand of speaker that has this good of sound quality would be 2 to 3 times the price. Buy it! You WONT be disappointed!

This speaker has a decent sound for the price, but is very bass-heavy. Even with the receiver EQ set to flat, male voices are unnaturally boomy and sometimes that extra bass gets in the way of clarity. They seem to have been going for an *impressive* sound rather than *realistic*. Aside from those issues, the speaker sounds pretty good. Female voices and special effects sound great and crisp. Not unsatisfied with the purchase considering it was well under $100, but if youve got the extra money, youd be better off with a Polk or something.

Quality of speaker is very good for a center speaker in the price range. I am overall very satisfied.. My biggest problem is setting the left and right speaker sound not to override the cneter volume. Tthe background sound sometimes plays over the center speaker.sound which may be related to my receiiver.. Instructions for setup and use not easy for an novice user but technical support very good..

I did considerable research looking for a center channel speaker. I considered price, frequency response, durability, RMS rating, and customer reviews were my main perimeters. The Sony SS-CN5000 filled the bill. The frequency response85Hz to 50KHz is just right. The HOP Construction material will ensure many good years of normal to Highly Abusive use!! The price to what you get ratio is much better than average. I received it by truck from Vann`s early and in perfect shape! I believe it is close to being broke in It sounds great! The SS-CN5000 is rated at 150 RMS watts. I have it hooked to a Sony STR-DH810 110 wattschannel and at approx. 10 to 15 watts output it really takes off. I have it set to SMALL and 170 Hz cut out. I would recommend Vann`s and the Sony SS-CN5000 speaker.

In the eighties, when stereo equipment was becoming sophisticated for even the average audiophile, I upgraded my system with all top of the line Sony equipment. I bought the first CD play in my city. It was a Sony. I realize the Sony has its critics and certainly can be beat if you are willing to pay for the technical differences that most human ears wont ever hear but Sony products have always served me well.
This is however, my first Sony speaker. I have always spent more money on speakers than I have components. I am very surprised at the performance of this center speaker and consider it to be one of the best bargains I have come by in quite some time. I did buy a Sony SA-WX700 subwoofer about four years ago another excellent deal on discontinuation. It blows the roof off - doesnt rumble or rattle but produces a clean, powerful sub-sonic sound that is true to life and represents the intended source of sound in the movie.
My surround sound is state of the art 2003 but it is all good stuff. I dropped the center when cleaning shelves so that was the end. This Sony added a whole new dimension as a replacement..almost like buying a whole system. Fresh, crisp, clean, and very distinct on voices. I would suggest this center to anyone - no matter how pricey your surround ssystem is. It will really surprise you.

I purchased the Sony SS-CN5000 to add to my surround sound system and am very satisfied with the purchase. I couldn't believe the difference it made as soon as I hooked it up. My wife has even said it was well worth the money and she normally doesn't notice the difference. I am sure there are better speakers out there for far more money,but if you are like me and on a budget you won't be sorry you purchased this speaker.

If you are reading this review let me just say either your budget for your home theater set-up is small or you are just looking to try the Sony branded speakers. Either way you have come to the right place. Being a college student my budget was low and I needed the most bang for my buck from my set-up. I know that the center channel speaker is one of the most important component of any home theater if not the most important. With that fact in mind I spent 2 weeks intensely researching about center channel speakers that would fit my low $100 budget. I could have bought an used Polk or Yamaha item online but I had absolutely no idea on how they were used by their previous owner and I couldn't compromise in that area for my center channel. I have heard in the past that Sony speakers are built poorly and cannot be matched to other competitors such as Polk but take this with a pinch of salt. I came across the Vanns online store and was surprised how they could offer the Sonys for about 42 off the retail price and was skeptical on whether I should buy from them but I did. The product shipped in less than a day and they provided me with a tracking no. The speakers arrived a few days later and my word did these guys pack these speakers as if they were shipping gold. Air bags and bubble wrap covering all sides of the inside box and the speaker itself had no scratches whatsoever and all the manuals and connecting wires in their respective bags. I thought I had bought the speaker from Sony themselves. After owning the speaker for over a week now and been playing them continuously at mid to high volumes and at low volumes when I am asleep with only a 3 hour rest in between essential for ideal speaker break in I can report that they have surpassed my reasonable expectations to a great extent. I decided to test the Highs with Music of the Night by Katherine Jenkins. It actually felt as if she was singing in my basement when I closed my eyes but there was a little distortion when I increased the volume to higher levels and would give it a 8 out of 10 I then moved on testing the mids with Fable by Robert Miles and again the results were profound. Very little distortion and all the instruments could be heard exactly earning it a 8.5 out of 10. For the lows I knew that the center channel was not supposed to produced glass-shattering bass but I played Arguru by Deadmau5. You will definitely need a subwoofer to reproduce the low-range notes but out of 10 i would give it a 7.5 for low end reproduction. I then decided to combine it all by playing Blood Diamond and I would say that the imaging alone would earn it a decent 8 out of 10. Djimon Hounsous voice was reproduced appropriately but what amazed me the most was how well it reproduced the background music -London by James Newton Howard. Overall The Sony CN-5000 will surprise you if you keep your expectations modest. Secondly the fact that I bought these speakers from Vanns makes the deal sweeter. If your a new comer you certainly will not go wrong, I know I didn't.

Let me make this simple. I have a small area and my old center channel did not provide dialogue without turning up the volume. When I did that when the action scenes started it was too loud. I ordered the ss-cn 5000 hooked it up and the difference was amazing. even at very low levels of volume the dialogue comes through loud and clear. This is my second purchase from Vanns, I am very pleased with the prices and delivery services. Plan to finish off my system with a pair of rear speakers and possibly a new receiver and will order from Vanns

I already had a Sony Surround System in my den. I had 6 Sony speakers and a sub connected to it with no center speaker. My wife heard it and wanted one for her man cave. Once again i turned to Vanns for the product and Sony for the sound. I had not purchased a center speaker for my den but purchased one for hers. After hearing how much difference it made in her room, i now have to purchase one for my den. OH WELL!!!

I was looking for a replacement for my old Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble center speaker. WHile the Cambridge has served me well, it sounded a bit tinny if thats a word. Not knowing if a new Center would make a big difference, I did not want to spend alot of $. The SS-CN5000 has a rich, full sound that blows my old one away. I no longer have to set the level of my center way above my other speakers to hear dialog. I am very happy with my purchase. It was inexpensive and actually was delivered a day early.

I have a nice 46 sony bravia T.V. with 1000 watt reciever which plays cds, dvd & radio. I have a seperate sony blue ray player.It is less than 2 years old & its great. I saw your center speaker at a store & said wow that sounds awesome. I went home & got on the internet & there they were. An entire page of much larger than I have Sony Speakers of every kind. When I hooked up my new center speaker it literaly double my whole surrond system! Today I will be recieving a pair of Sony Floor-Standing SSF-5000. I purchased the CN-5000 center channel speaker to match a pair of Sony FS-5000 speakers. The transition across the soundstage is seamless with the center delivering excellent dialogue and midrange. Easy to hook up and no adjustment necessary. About the same cost as a cheaper sounding 3-3.5 inch center or sound bar the CN-5000 is a better value.

Love the sound and build quality of this center speaker. Most Ive heard are either muddy and hard to understand dialogue in the large speakers or tinny and no bass tones to voices in the small surround sound package speakers. The sound is clear full and voices sound life like. I give it 4 stars because of the size, it is rather large. Guess thats why it sounds good though. Sony does it right for those of us on a budget. I doubt you will be disappointed!

I have this hooked up to an Onkyo 608 receiver and I couldn't be happier. The sound is crisp and it handles as much volume I throw at it. The price performance is fantastic and don't see any reason to spend more money on a center channel.

I bought this center to use with my all Sony 5.1 home theater, SS-F5000s in front, SS-B1000s rear, and SA-SW2500 Sub and it fits perfectly. I'm in a small room, and this might actually be too much center for the space, but for the money, I couldnt pass it up. Dialog sounds great in both normal and night modes. Voices are clean and accurate, and it is certainly powerful enough to cut through a good sized floorstanding front speaker. Sound quality was nice in 5.1 channel music as well. The only downside I found was the lack of mounting options a couple of keyholes would have been enough but that is easily remedies by putting it on the stand or putting in a shelf under a wall mounted TV. This is a great center for most home theater systems, unless you really have some beast front speakers and surrounds. It will sound good in even a large room, and is a great buy.

I had a smaller KLH center speaker and I found myself turning up the volume to hear dialogue. I went looking for a speaker that plays louder and found the Sony SS-CN5000. It is a much larger speaker, but it did fit a shelf below my t.v. in my entertainment center. The sound is much louder and clearer. Definitely an improvement. I havent heard higher-end center speakers so I cant make that kind of comparison, but I am satisfied with the purchase. They are definitely worth Vanns asking price. Just bought two pairs of KEF IQ30 from Vanns on a Deal of the Day great deal by the way!. Will be interesting to see how the SS-CN5000 matches up with the IQ30s.

After years of chasing the high end audio toys I decided this time around to go more modest for my new home. After buying a set of Sony floor tower speakers I decided to add the extra pieces for a surround setup. The Sony SS-CN5000 was excellently priced and sounds great! It has great bass for such a small unit and the highs are nice and clear. Dialog is crisp and clear which is all you need from a center channel speaker.
All in all an excellent purchase if you are building a mid-fi sound system....

Sony is always great at speakers. I have heard music from Sony bookshelf speakers and that made me purchase the center speaker for my new Onkyo AV receiver. I even bought SSF6000 pair. The output of voice is crisp and for me this is a awesome choice.

This speaker has incredible sound. I was stunned at the substantial improvement over the 10 year old speaker that it replaced.

I bought this speaker to complete my 5.1 surround system consisting of Sony SSF5000 front channel speakers, Sony SSB1000 surround speakers and a Sony SAW2500 subwoofer. This speaker complimented this system very well. It really anchors down the front center image. It has excellent clarity and much better bass response than i was expecting. For this price you definitely wont find anything better. I highly recommend buying this speaker.

I recently purchased the Sony SS-CN5000 center speaker from Vanns and it is asolutley awesome!!! Vanns not only shipped it extra fast so I received it earlier than anticipated, it plugged right in and sounds amazing with true deep and rich sound! Specs are dead on and my surround sound finally has that last piece it was missing. Way better than the old infintiy I had there before. If Vanns ran for president, Id vote for em!

Good tight center speaker matched to Sony book shelf speakers for a good surround system at a very reasonable price. They have an attractive size and finsh that lets them blend in well with your room. If you are setting it on top of furnature forget the dinky rubber pads provided and get a good set at the hardware store.

I needed to get a new center speaker for my system. I looked around and found this Sony speaker had pretty good reviews, and the price at Vanns was quite good. Ive hooked it up and must say Im pretty impressed with the quality of the sound for the the price. It might not satisfy some audiophiles, but for my 60 year old ears it is quite good.

I purchased this speaker because my old center speaker did not provide enough volume or good sound to match up with the other speakers attached to my home theater system. The difference this new speaker has made is significant. The voices are much clearer and my overall experience when watching Blu-ray and regular DVDs has been enhanced.

I had an older model center channel speaker that was a Sony as well. I decided that it was time to upgrade the center channel. This Sony speaker is crystal clear and will be great for anyone besides maybe the hardcore audiophile. The speaker is quite large which should not scare you because you know it is a quality product. When watching Transformers on blu ray the voices were so clear compared to my older Sony speaker, do not hesitate to pick this up. Vanns service was top notch and the salesman are very knowledgeable about audio equipment, its not like other stores where the salesman there are hit and miss about how much they know about AV equipment. They kept me very informed throughout the order procedure and delivery of the product. They have the best price on this speaker and many others...Even if something in the future is higher on this website I will still buy it from here because they have great service. Another thing I should mention is that you actually get 2 years of warranty with this speaker not just one year. Buy this speaker now do not hesitate!!!

I enjoyed the prompt service from Vanns. The Sony Center Speaker SS-CN5000 was added to a mixed system that included a Sony 7.1 receiver and a Sony subwoofer. The system had 6 other speakers. The Center speaker installed very easily and really helped to deliver a full 7.1 surround system in my downtairs man cave. It really helps sound to pop when played from a DVD.

I bought this speaker on Friday and received it on Tuesday of the following week. I am relatively new to speaker systems, but this Sony Center SS-CN5000 speaker was very easy to install. When I first connected this speaker to my 7.1 receiver, I could not believe how well it worked with my other Front and surround rear speakers. It was as if they were a perfect match, and my other speakers are not Sony. I have listened to my Sony SS-CN5000 Center Speaker on my 7.1 Blu Ray player, on my 52 inch LED HDTV, which I bought from Vanns, and this speaker works flawlessly. The sound and tone from this Center Speaker is superb! It fills up my whole room with beautiful sound! I used to buy a lot from another leading on-line company, but now I am a Vanns convert.

Wow, this center speaker delivers incredible high and midrange tones to perfectly compliment my Sony SS5000 floor speakers.
