It's right behind you . . .
Surround sound audio lets you experience all your favorite movies just as the characters do. If you're watching a spooky suspense movie, you hear the same creaky door opening behind you, the same rustle of leaves off screen. If action flicks are more to your liking, you hear bombs explode, shrapnel fly, and bullets zip by all around you. But in order to experience surround sound audio, you need a multi-channel speaker system. And to hear those eerie sounds or enveloping battlefield effects, you look to a system's rear-channel speakers. Combining a single 1.0" tweeter and single 3.5" woofer, the CS23 bookshelf speaker from Boston Acoustics serves up full, clear mid-range and high-frequency audio. Pair two of them up for powerful rear-channel audio or dynamic stereo listening.
Of drivers and ports
While a variety of design considerations are essential to producing a loudspeaker capable of delivering powerful yet clear audio, two stand out above the rest: a speaker's drivers and its cabinet. First, while the CS23 employs a 1.0" Kortec soft-dome tweeter to serve up crystalline high-frequency audio, it turns to a single 3.5" graphite-injected polymer woofer with Deep Channel Design technology to reproduce full bass and mid-range audio. Second, enhancing the reproduction of controlled, efficient bass audio, the CS23 sports a bass-reflex cabinet design. By freeing the movement of air behind the speaker's drivers, the acoustically tuned bass-reflex port not only allows for greater speaker efficiency but also achieves improved bass extension and performance.
MagnaGuard
All of the components in your home theater system use electricity. They use it for power and for audio and video signal transmission. Accordingly, they all emit some amount of electromagnetic radiation. Because speakers operate using large magnets and require large amounts of power to reproduce sound, their output of electromagnetic energy can potentially interfere with the signals being used by other components. Ensuring seamless integration in to your home A/V system, the folks at Boston Acoustics have designed the CS23 with MagnaGuard magnetic shielding, protecting other A/V components from electromagnetic interference.
Going for gold
Ensuring high-conductivity and low-corrosivity for high-performance, enduring audio reproduction, the Boston Acoustics CS23 speaker uses gold-plating on its five-way binding-post inputs.
The finishing touches — cables
Go one step further in your quest to reach the pinnacle of home audio. A high-performance floorstanding speaker like the CS23 can only help your home audio system reach its full potential if it is receiving a quality, high-integrity audio signal. Audio cables — chosen specifically for the needs of your system — deliver the ability to maximize your CS23's potential. View the accessories list attached to the CS23 at Vanns.com or call a Vann's customer service representative at the 800 number at the top of this page for assistance in selecting the right set of cables.

I bought a pair of these to replace a pair of Boston Acoustics HS 50s in my viewing room. One of them had developed a rattling problem and I could not find replacements. Since my viewing room doubles as a family room, I needed something compact that could deliver. Since they are part of a 5.1 setup, I am happy with the frequency response and my Onkyo receiver has been able to roll them off at 70hz, letting the subwoofer handle the rest. I think they are ever so slightly less musical-sounding than the HS 50s, but I am going to live with the trade off.

Was looking for a pair of small speakers for a secondary music system in my home office. I had good luck buying a pair of Boston Computer Speakers on close out a few years back so when I saw these on special I thought I would take a chance & purchase them. Vanns had the best price this happens a lot so I took the plunge. I am very happy. Gold binding posts allowed me to use a nice pair of cables to hook them up to a vintage Pioneer Receiver. Very smooth and musical sounding. Great price & performance for their price.

Ive been using BAs SubSat Six speaker system in my library since 1989. Recently, the speaker cone suspensions started to deteriorate causing a lot of buzzing noises. The CS23Bs are a direct replacement for the original sats and produce the same sound I enjoyed over 2 decades. My wife is happy as the look on the shelf is identical.

I am very satisfied with my purchase of the Boston Acoustics CS23B speakers. I bought them to use as surround sound back speakers when I decided to convert my 5.1 Denon sound system into a 7.1. The sound quality as well as the quality of manufacture is nowhere near of disappointing. Brand reputation clearly influenced my decision, as well as my experience with Boston Acoustics sound. One other thing I feel need to mention, I purchased them specifically from Vanns because of their fast, courteous, dependable service which Ive received every time Ive placed an order with them. Its good to know great service is still number one with some merchants.
