Get Active With Your Bass
With a built-in 100 watt amplifier, this subwoofer is what is known as an active subwoofer rather than passive; active means that a subwoofer picks up and amplifies the signals being sent to it, whereas passive means the unit only picks up and resonates the signals without any extra amplification. An active subwoofer adds the extra power you're looking for in a low frequency effects channel. If you want realistic explosions, roars and rockets with your movies as well as more thump in your tunes, you don't want to be passive about your subwoofer.
Advanced Design
For a subwoofer to blend seamlessly with the rest of your system, you need some control over how it sounds. That's why the SAW2500 has an adjustable level control so you can adjust the volume level to your system and room environment. The long throw driver utilized in this subwoofer is capable of extended cone excursion to produce lifelike bass levels in any type of system configuration. This means that the driver that moves the woofer can move farther, faster to more accurately reproduce the audio signals it receives. The bass you hear will be closer to what the artist or director/producer intended. The Advanced SAW Bass Reflex design maximizes air flow to produce big, full bass. The speaker cabinet design vastly increases bass output. From cones to cabinets, it all adds up to a better sounding system for you. I purchased this product to compliment the JBL speakers I recently installed. I found connecting the subwoofer easily done with the RCA subwoofer output on my tuner. The addition of the Sony sub-woofer has greatly enhanced the sound the music played on my Onkyo tuner. The Sony sub-woofer is well built and the bass is adjustable to suit my needs.

I bought this Sony subwoofer as an upgrade replacement for an older Sony sub. It appears to be nearly identical to the old one, with the exception being an automatic offon switch. The older model had a front-mounted manual switch, and after leaving it on too many times over the course of the 5 years I owned it, it was time to upgrade. I hate wasting electricity. This unit sounds great, as did the old one. I am not new to audio, but Im no pro either. Ive tried several different settings on both the subwoofer and my receiver, and I cant get the auto on to operate. When in auto mode, it turns off while in use. Now I leave it on all the time, which wastes even more power than the old one. Ill continue to try every setting possible to figure out how to get it to operate in the manner I wanted, which is when I turn on my receiver, the sub comes on. When I turn the receiver off, the sub turns off. Actually, Im a little regretful that I didnt research a little more but its a SONY. Nearly every subwoofer has an auto on off setting and has for years. This is the plug and play era. I should be able to.

I needed a cheap sub to replace my Polk PSW10 that I had to repurpose for my basement mancave. The SA-W2500 was well reviewed and looked nice, not to mention it was on sale for seventy bucks with free shipping. When I received the unit, it seemed a little cheesy right out of the box. I plugged it in and ran my receivers calibration routine. The Sony sub turned out to be an excellent match for my Energy Take Classic 5.1 system! Very smooth lows with a natural rolloff.
Tested the system with some blu-ray content at several volume levels and was very happy with the results. For moderate listening levels in an average sized room, I feel like I got real bang for my buck. As a bonus, the unit is unobtrusive and furniture-quality. Very high WAF wife acceptance factor.

I bougt this subwoofer becauseof its capability, price, and user reviews. I did a good deal of research on this item and found that the reviews from Vanns as well as other sites were fairly consistent. This is a great subwoofer for a budget conscious buyer, not particularly ideal for an audiophile, but this bad boy gets the job done. I connected this to my Sony DH720 receiver and I am completely satisfied. This is perfect for a small to medium sized room where the audio can be dampened either by carpet or acoustic baffling. I could not see this truly working well in a larger room where there is hardwood or tiling as the sound would bounce around a bit too much. I would recommend this item based on the ease of use, decent to very good output, the fact that it is powered, and that is a relatively smaller unit that can be situated nearly anywhere.

Over the many years I have used a few various Sony woofers in my 56 by 32 basement mancave. I felt I needed to upgrade my sound after getting the new 65 and 55 inch screens. The new Sony 12 3000 180 watt woofer just seemed to be missing something at lower volumes. So knowing the ease of hooking yet another Sony woofer to my existing 3000, I purchased the Sony 10 2500 100 watt woofer which fit nicely into a empty space in my entertainment center. It was the missing thump at lower volumes I was searching for! Perfect! Now the movies move even more than I thought possible. The music videos and CDs came to total attention grabbing life. And the PS3 and Wii are just plain awesome! And now all at ANY volume. Ordering online was definitely easier than driving several miles over several days looking for these items since I live about 40 miles from any nearest possible place. And they arrived in just a couple days. Each with everything needed to hook up. It just dont get any better!

First thing first, this can not be a top subwoofer with thrilling sound quality. Why? Because the price is sooooooo affordable. AND, the sound is much better than most subwoofers in hometheater sets under 600 bucks.
I paired it up with my JBL speakers to boost some low keys. I can not say its amazing, but it has been much above my expectation. Its not noisy at all. The bass fills the room, soft and gender, although a little bit slow in reaction.
When listening to music, this SB does a good job too. I have a pair of KEF iq5 for the music, just out of curiosity, I connect this SB to the music system, and listen to some lady gaga and jayZ, OMG, feels like I am in a night club, so much punch
All in all, if you are seeking very good sound quality, you have plenty of other choices. But if you a looking for a nice SB under some budget, this SB wont let you down.

I have a Sony AV 5.1, with Onkyo sattelite speakers but i had no subwoofer, wooow what a difference, it filled the sound and the living room with rumbling bass the amps volume was just at 14. I just got the Sony SA-W2500 and I am completely satisfied with it. I have a small living room 20X15 and it fills the room. It is connected to a Onkyo TX-SR309 and it works great on the LFE output. I set the cross over to 200 hz and it helps fill in the bass from the other five speakers. Highly recommended.

I purchased this woofer because of a gift, I received a sound bar with surround capabilities for my TV. I decided to add a subwoofer for the best sound quality. This is a best value for the buck and quality is above what I expected. Sounds incredibly loud yet clear. The limiters are a plus and allows to tweak the sound to your liking. The speaker box is of decent size and easy to place in a corner. I like the stand-by power down option, allowing me to leave the power on always, so too in the sound bar. The instructions are easy to follow and clear enough for even dummies! Sony is the best when it comes to quality! Proven once again!

I have had this sub for quite some time, needed an upgrade bad from lack of low end in my surround set up. While it is not audiophile quality, it is a huge bang for your buck. Was skeptical at first of the low price as a crappy sub can sound HORRIBLE from distortion when you want to crank up the volume for a good movie. Those worries went away when I hooked it up and fired up a movie to test it. If your budget is around this range then dont discount this sub being a Sony and not a more HT centered brand. Just realize that in this price range you will not get the most accurate low end reproduction and tight bass. This sub does compliment action movies very well as it packs a little bit of a boomy punch and has no problem with volume. Others may recommend BIC for a little more but I am happy with this sub and thats the goal in the end. Might even pick up a 2nd.

Loved everything about my Mitsubishi WD-65838 television except the sound. It has an integrated 5.1 sound bar but even with the volume turned up it sounded empty. The TV has a subwoofer out so I bought the speaker and plugged it in and it is really the missing piece. It sounds great now for TV, video games, movies, and the DirectTV music channels. Did not pay attention to the dimensions, speaker is bigger than I expected so I had to find a different location for it than I originally planed but that was not a big deal.

I ordered the speaker on Wednesday and it was delivered to me in Connecticut on Friday using regular ground shipping which was free with the purchase. Connection was easy to my existing system using the 3mm jack already tied into my receiver. Speaker sounds great and I especialy like having the ability to select phase and mz. to tune in the best sound for my system. This was a Christmas gift for my daughter, who easily set it up in her house to replace a subwoofer damaged in a fire. She has a Sony receiver and Bose speakers, and this little subwoofer works well within this system. It fits in a small area next to the entertainment center, where it looks quite attractive., and it sounds quite good in the context of surround sound for movies.
Sound is clean and adjustment was relatively simple. Price was good and shipping was prompt and efficient. I give this item a good recommendation.

The SA-W2500 is a great little subwoofer at a great price. It really makes our new system sound great. We replaced a B**e system with 5.1 speakers and a powered subwoofer and our new set of Sony speakers and the SA-W2500 has wonderful sound. THe price is right and Vanns shipping was fast.

This is the first subwoofer Ive ever bought and it was to compliment a CDTuner system I bought here after reading the previous reviews for that product, I decided to take their advice and purchase a Sony 100 watt subwoofer - wasnt hard to attach - basically you attach the speaker wires from your component to the woofer and then another set of wires, luckily had extra at home, go to external speakers. After putting in a CD, I literally had to fight off my nephew who wanted to take the subwoofer away from his mom - the gift reciepient!! the sound rattled the windows! It was worth buying both - and will buy another subwoofer for my theater experience at home - and yes, my nephew hooked up the component to access the subwoofer more then the speakers the component came with - then he really lost his mind - its like you are at the movie house - fantastic buy!

I have a small room where we have our TV and audio system - this subwoofer is great for the small area, and it can be tweaked so the bass doesnt overwhelm the rest of the system. It also has a nice power-saver feature, so you are wasting energy when not using it. I am glad we got it.

I am using this subwoofer with a Mitsubishi TV which has the 16 speaker built in sound bar and allows the addition of an optional subwoofer. This small powered subwoofer was easy to hook up to the back of the TV and made a huge difference in the sound quality while viewing DVDs. I didn't try the automatic onoff switch. I agree with other reviewers that the power switch is inconveniently located on the lower part of the back.

I bought this sub to use in my home theater system. The room I'm in is pretty small, and I have front speakers Sony SS-F5000s that are able to take care of much of the low end I need, but the sub is, of course, necessary to round out the whole sound. This sub has some nice features, the auto power save being one, and adjustability for cut off frequencies can help you tune the system even more. I do find it to be a touch on the mushy side, definitely not the crisp, defined hits a higher end sub will give, but at less than 14 of the cost of most high end subwoofers, its a great deal if you can work with its limitations. Outside of being mushy, it does give that extra low end and satisfying rumble that a successful home theater needs to be complete. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a deal on a solid sub, if they were ok with not having the best of the best. Its great for anyone building a starter home theater or using it in a small space.

I bought a new Mitsubishi TV LT-40164 from Vanns that has Dolby 5.1 surround sound built into it as an array of 16 small speakers, and a dedicated outlet for and optional subwoofer.
So I spent about a week researching subwoofers to find the best fit for my TV. I looked at subwoofers costing 1000s of dollars, yet the $85.97 Sony SA-W2500 at Vanns beat them all because it has everything I need such as a wide audio range 28-200Hz, magnetic shielding, auto standby, direct LFE input, RCA cable, and the right size and weight.
I was absoultely surprized at how much of the audio spectrum I had been missing. The sound is now richer, balanced, and realistic. For example, because the average speaking voice is about 150Hz for males and 230Hz for females with a singing range of about six notes up and six down, I had been missing much of the richness of the human voice! Also, now I can clearly distinguish the bass guitar and the left hand keys on a piano.
And, most importantly my wife loves it.

Ive owned a few subwoofers in my day and Id have to rate the Sony SA-W2500 as adequate. I know thats like saying the girl on the blind-date has a good personality, but the Sony doesnt really do anything spectacular. I was looking for a budget replacement for an 8 80w subwoofer that died and this was the one in the size and price range I was looking for.
The product arrived faster than was promised which was nice. Setup was VERY easy and adjustment was also fairly easy. The foot-print of this 10 100W sub was actually smaller than my older 8 model by KLH. It does add nice low end rumble to movies and deep bass to music. Its a little muddy and lacks clarity and punch like my larger, more expensive 12 in my basement home theater. This sub was meant for my second home theater area with my older 5.1 equipment and DVD player, smaller TV, etc. It fills the bill very nicely.
Like I said before, the unit is small and unobtrusive in most settings and has an auto-onoff feature. If youre looking for a basic subwoofer to add a little extra punch in a smaller room and price is of utmost importance, give this one a look. If sound quality matters most, you probably arent reading this review anyway!

Tested this speaker against others in a local electronics store before I bought it and found that it sounded as good as any of the others, though they were hundreds more.
Probably not good for a large space, but enough power for my space the room is approximately 15 x 18.

I purchased this sub-woofer for my younger brother for his birthday. Ever since it arrived hes been shaking the house with it hopefully nothing falls off my shelves. Out of the box he had it hooked up to his desktop, in hardly any time at all. When I asked him if he had looked at the directions he had told me no. So I went to look at the directions, which showed several pictograms of how the sub could be hooked up, which didnt necessarily give complete detail or a full set-up check list. Other than that, this product is awesome!

Excellent augmentation to an existing system. Gives that extra oomph on the low side but unobtrusively. Auto onoff feature standby works great.
Only tip I would offer is that the smart receiver I got needed to know that the subwoofer was there before it would work. In other words, use the speaker setup feature to turn on the sub out preamp on the receiver.
This may sound sorta basic but it was new to me.
Very satisfied now that all speakers are set up and balanced.

I bought this Subwoofer to match up with a pair of Sony SSB 3000 speakers and a pair of Sony SSB 1000 that I have set up in my garage. I run this system on an Onkyo TX-8555 and it sounds very good for a garage stereo. Actually rediculously good for a garage stereo. I would not however recommend these line of Sony for a home theater system. I have the Polk monitor series inside the house with a center, two bookshelfs, two floorstanding, and a sub. The Polk out performs the Sony in clarity and loudness, but is to be expected for the difference in price. I just like to get wowld in my garage from time to time and the Sonys are perfect for that. The subwoofer hits fairly hard but doesnt drop as low as the Polk. I have adjusted the low pass all the way down but it just wont drop like the Polk, but I listen only to hard rock music so it works for me. So if you listen to rap or hip hop then this sub may not be for you.

Bought this based on other reviews and it does not disappoint! This is used in a 6.1 environment in a large greatroom. More than ample base at about 80 gain. The power save mode is nice and comes on within a couple seconds of detecting a signal from the ampreceiver. Great boom for the buck.

I purchased this subwoofer to replace the passive subwoofer that came with my home theater system. While I knew that I was missing out on the bass range, I was blown away by the difference this subwoofer made. The fact I was able to get a clearance model in perfect condition for even less means I am even more thrilled with this purchase, but knowing what I know now, I would happily pay full price.
My only suggestion is that the user simply turn off the power when not using it for movies and music, as the auto shut off makes an audible click each time it turns onshuts off, which it can do often. If you turn the subwoofer on without that being selected you do not have that problem. Otherwise, absolutely no complaints.

For only $100 I was able to get this sub. I was unsure of the quility since it was only $100. But when I got this sub woofer all of my worries disappeared.
The sub can be hooked up with a basic sub woofer cable or it can be hooked up through two side speakers by running the speaker wires to ths sub and then to the speakers. I expeirenced no loss of sound quality to the left and right speakers when I did this.
Also this sub made a clear sound and was loud enough for my taste. And I didnt even have to turn the volume on the sub all the way up in order to get the sound I wanted.

I chose the Sony subwoofer because it was in my price range. It delivers the lower range sound we wanted for movies, music and regular TV watching. It has handled special effects well. We have been very pleased with this subwoofer and how it has handled the various genres we've played through it.

This excellent amplified speaker delivers a full 100 watts of dynamic bass. It will certainly make your room shake. It also allows thye full color of the sound to shine through.

I plugged this baby into my new Sony receiver STR-DH500, and it was simple. This sub is great. It turns on and off automatically if volume is sensed through receiver. It has separate controls on the back that you can limit to your liking. It comes with a subwoofer mono cable, so you dont need to buy one separately like the others out there. I am happy with this subwoofer because it fits in with all of my Sony components. Above all, the price was unbeatable. You cannot get this quality from any others for the price. I am now thinking of adding the Sony sound bar system from Vanns to my setup. Thank you Vanns.

I had a very good experience with this purchase through Vanns.com The product was received as expected and set up was very easy. The sub-woofer speaker itself is a nice product. Im certainly not an expert in electronics, but the sound from the sub-woofer is nice and is a good addition to my speaker system. Would recommend the product and Vanns as well.

Fine sub woofer. Its effects are more pronounced when watching a rental movie. Not so much noticed in typical TV shows.
I would purchase it again. It can be set off to the side someplace more hidden because you cant tell where to sound is coming from anyway.
It was a very good price and shipping and handling by the supplier.

I got this sub for my living room. The room itself isnt very big so it does a good job. Watching action movies on blue ray like Transformers and Star Trek is awesome with it. Works good, however if I had a larger, more open living room I would probably get a bigger one.

I ordered this sub because of price, brand name, and good reviews. I installed the sub after a little while of studying the instructions, and adjusted it. I am not an audiophile by any means, but I enjoy listening to music while I work around the house and feeling the explosions in movies rattle the couch a little bit. When I moved into a new apartment with two built in speakers for surround sound. I decided to upgrade and bought this as my subwoofer. Ive had it a month and am extremely happy with it. Im not an audiophile. I wasnt certain what the subwoofer would do to enhance the sound of my home theater. So, my criteria for a subwoofer was size and price.
I love the deep bass it produces to make the sound, so much richer. I like auto-on power save feature and the controls on the back for the bass.

This is the best low cost sub anywhere period - I have used them in several low to moderate cost installations without fault. Not audiophile - not killer loud - but way loud enough for anything a normal person would need. I am a professional bassist and home audio system designer . If its loud and strong enough for me in my systems, its probably good enough for you.

We can spend a great deal for bass, but Im not willing to do that. This is an excellent value for the money. Yes, you can spend more and if you want the last ounce of bass youll pay for it, but this will do the job for most of us. Ive been buying audio equipment for more than 50 years. My first records were 78s. If you want a good subwoofer at a good price this is it.

My first introduction to Sony speakers was when I added this 2500 to a sound bar for my flat panel TV.Recently I built a surround system with all Sony speakers and Onkyo components.These speakers all get an out standing rating from me.This sub really fills the back of the room with thunderous effects.If I had to do it all over again I wouldnt change a thing.

This sub sounds great! The only thing better than the sound is the way Vanns handled the transacation. I ordered the product on a Monday and received it the Friday of the same week.
Back to the sub, I have it working with my Klipsch speakers, also purchased from Vanns, and is powered by a Yamaha RXV565 receiver. This combo makes watching movies like you are at a theatre.
You could spend a lot more on a sub but why would you?

For the past year, Ive been getting by with a Sony SS-CN5000 center speaker with a pair of Sony SSF-5000 floor standing speakers. Okay setup, but lacking bass for my entertainment room.
Just got this subwoofer and surprised at how good it was. It rocks the room during intense PS3 games like COD5, MGS4, Uncharted. Movies benefit as well, though its a little imprecise for music.
Hard to beat for the price. The power-save feature turns the sub off when the input drops below a certain volume for a specific amount of time. The constant power on and off can be irritating. I dont have power-save on for that reason.
