Multi-sensory surround sound
In our opinion, the term "surround sound" is a little misleading. Or, at least, a little narrow. You see, the term focuses your attention on what you hear. You know, the special audio effects served up by rear- and front-channel bookshelf or floorstanding speakers, the movie dialogue or music lyrics provided by the center-channel speaker. But there's a part of surround sound that you can feel, too. That's right, feel. It's no wonder the subwoofer often gets overlooked when discussing multi-channel speaker systems; after all, it's the little "0.1" in phrases like "5.1-channel" or "7.1-channel." But we're here to tell you, the subwoofer plays one of the biggest roles in a true home theater surround sound experience. In fact, most home theater speaker systems are pretty meager without a little support from the subwoofer. Imagine a squadron of tanks caravanning across the desert in your favorite action movie. Without a subwoofer, you hear a low drone of engines. With a subwoofer, however, you hear the deep roar of gears and tracks and internal combustion . . . and a rumbling that you can actually feel. Fueling its 10" graphite-injected polymer woofer with 100W of built-in power amplification, the CS SUB10 from Boston Acoustics is capable of reproducing full, wide-dispersion bass audio that can be heard and felt. Further, BassTrac circuitry virtually eliminates distortion for deep, controlled low-frequency audio.
Acoustically tuned
As a vented-enclosure subwoofer (also known as a bass-reflex sub), the CS SUB10 allows you to experience enhanced low-frequency reproduction out of a smaller enclosure. Vented systems use the sound produced at the rear side of the driver's diaphragm to increase the efficiency of the system at low frequencies by taking advantage of the resonance of ports or vents designed into the enclosure. The air mass in the cylindrical ports resonates in response to the movement of the air behind the diaphragm within the enclosure, similar to the way that the air in a glass bottle resonates when you blow air across its mouth. The CS SUB10's bass-reflex design and acoustically tuned port extend low-frequency bass performance and, simultaneously, allow for a more modest enclosure size that won't dominate space in your living room.
MagnaGuard
All of the components in your home theater system use electricity. They use it for power and for audio and video signal transmission. Accordingly, they all emit some amount of electromagnetic radiation. Because speakers operate using large magnets and require large amounts of power to reproduce sound, their output of electromagnetic energy can potentially interfere with the signals being used by other components. Ensuring seamless integration in to your home A/V system, the folks at Boston Acoustics have designed the CS SUB10 with MagnaGuard magnetic shielding, protecting other A/V components from electromagnetic interference.
The finishing touches — cables
Go one step further in your quest to reach the pinnacle of home audio. A high-performance floorstanding speaker like the CS SUB10 can only help your home audio system reach its full potential if it is receiving a quality, high-integrity audio signal. Audio cables — chosen specifically for the needs of your system — deliver the ability to maximize your CS SUB10's potential. View the accessories list attached to the CS SUB10 at Vanns.com or call a Vann's customer service representative at the 800 number at the top of this page for assistance in selecting the right set of cables.

Great subwoofer that is very easy to setup. Easily one hundred times better than my previous unpowered subwoofer. I highly recommend this subwoofer not only for its performance but for the price it comes at. Would NOT call this an entry level subwoofer. Only downside is that this subwoofer does not have inputs for standard speaker wire but it does not really matter since the RCA and LFE inputs are way better.

I use this with movies mostly and its amazing. I have the Boston CS floors and for my classic rock its a little much, but my son loves it for his tracks that use and require lots of base. It shakes the floor. Its downward facing, I like that. The specs are excellent in its price range. Well built, heavy, with quality rubber feet. A bit bulky if space is important to you. Has the volume adjustment a fiddler like me needs. Auto on and off is a cool feature. It just adds quality bass so I dont know why spending 3X the money is worth it unless you're looking for extreme volume or are ultra picky.

I was looking for a subwoofer to use in my bedroom for a 5.1 surround system I was putting together. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but I also wanted a decent performing subwoofer. After a couple of weeks of searching and reading reviews I settled on this model from Boston Acoustics which seemed to have the specifications I wanted. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound and performance of the speaker. After a little tweaking this unit performs well putting out a powerful low range and good volume. So much so that I don't think this unit would have a problem in a room two to three times the size of my bedroom.

My 10 year old AR SHO12 sub died recently, and I spent a lot of time trying to revive it with a replacement Plate amp from another dealer, but the new amp was defective, so I scrapped that idea
and took the easy way out. Vanns delivered the unit in 3 days with free shipping at a great price. I plugged it in and it is very nicely supplying the missing bass in my home theater setup with Pioneer VSX-D814 receiver, JBL Control One surrounds, and Realistic Minimus-7 Center. Crossover and volume controls have a nice range of adjustment. I have it running off the subwooferLFE output on the amp, and only 13 up the volume.
Nice sound effects and low frequency background with clear speech on NCIS and the Mentalist with amp in Dolby surround. For music, I switch to the Pioneers Stereo direct mode which cuts out the center channel and gives a fuller bass.

I purchased this subwoofer along with center channel CS225CB speaker to replace Cambridge Soundworks pieces. While Cambridge Soundworks speakers are very high quality, Boston Accoustics turned out to be a visible and audible improvement. Vanns took care of shipping speakers the best way possible. They arrived quick and sound and Im very happy about my choice of merchant.

Bought this sub to go with old Boston CR7 bookshelf 6 front speakers and CS225 center. I still need good surrounds. The sub is strong and sounds good with volume set to just under 12. Receiver is Yamaha low end 5.1, but it sounds great and will rock. Room is 12 x 14, but I assume that sub would sound good in a considerably larger room.
