Shortly after selling my jbl sub I decided to get the mirage prestige s10 that in every aspect blew away the jbl. I now had actual deep bass that didnt just thump to everything and call attention to its self, what a difference! But it was to much of a good thing, I started having problems with one particular neighbor. Realizing mirage makes exellent equipment I thought maybe I should try the omni s8, although I was worried about how much of a drop off it would be. Im not sure how mirage pulls it off but, this little fellow is quite impressive! When I put on war of the worlds, the scene where the tri-pods come up, the pizza pan on my stove shook! On playing music, it realy did a great job on any of my bass heavy pop music I played, very satisfied. In hindsight , I should of bought this sub in the first place, unless you have really large area, you wont need anything more.

Very strong aesthetics tiny enclosure, piano-black finish, gorgeous forward-facing 8 Fiberglas cone.
200-watt RMS BASH amplifier. Very deep voice for a cone, and an enclosure, as small as this one. Can play surprisingly loud, with very little distortion.
I wouldnt normally buy this sub--too much of its regular price pays for exceptionally good looks and tiny size, and Id rather use that money for other things--but at the current sale price, it may be the best deal going in the budget subwoofer class. If you are just getting into better-than-HTIB-junk home audio, I think that you should absolutely take advantage of this deal as soon as possible.
One minor quibble one of the screw holes for the spike feet was incorrectly threaded, and wouldnt allow a complete insertion of the last spike foot. I had to unscrew the other three spike feet to approximately the same height this was a slight annoyance that I solved myself, so I wont even take off any points.

Still breaking this baby in and sounds better every day. This wont push the air of a 12 incher but in my 15x15 room does all I ask of it. Mates very well with my ACI Sapphire IIIs and Marantz reciever. This was my 1st time buying from Vanns and it wont be my last. Mirage OMD Product Quality -- One of the best audio packages for their finish and assembly. The piano black was fantastic, binding all tight, etc.....
Mirage Sound Quality -- After letting the system break in for 145 hours at 25 volume, it was amazing how they came alive hour after hour. The clarity and presence are what sold me when I heard them in a local AV boutique. The OMD series of speakers are true reference quality. And the two S-10 subs hit clean and hard, the THX Blue Ray movies sound great.
After setting up the home theater I ordered another system for the upstairs system. I was going to go with a Paradigm HT package, but honestly believe the Mirage system sounds as good if not better at more reasonable cost. The bottom line is that Mirage and Vanns rock!
Packing of Speakers -- Mirage did it right, they were packaged so well that these could have been tossed off the truck with no damage to the product.
Vanns -- All I can say is that you have a customer for life. Your service department, shipping, and pricing are the best in the industry!

Anyway, I cant praise Mirage enough. This subwoofer is superb. Great size, Great sound, great style and a great price.

Have only had this sub for a week and a half but have put around 40 hours of playtime in and let me say that it only sounds better each day. The sub it has replaced was a 55 watt rms 8 Energy unit that could just not fill the 20x30 room. The mirage on the other hand is what I feel a perfect fit. It probably would struggle in a bigger space or with vaulted ceilings, but at this point with the unit not yet fully broken in at just over half volume it sounds superb. Very clean and musical as well as pretty thunderous for movies. Now, dont forget this is only an 8 sub. If you really want to feel the low lows in movies I would recommend going with something that can move more air. The fit and finish is excellent and physical dimensions are compact. Overall Im very happy with this unit.

This is a review of just Mirage Prestige S10 and not mirage speakers in general. I hate Mirage speakers but still love their subwoofers. They are the best.
This might be the best subwoofer for music not to mention even for everything. Audiophiles may say it cannot produce a 18Hz tone, but then 98 out of 100 of subwoofers cannot. Consider this, only subwoofers more expensive than $3000 can produce Bass as clean as this one and still go to 18Hz. Yes, there might be some like SVS cylindrical subs which can produce frequencies to 18Hz and cost less than $2000, but DEFINITELY NOT AS TIGHT.
I have Klipsch RB-81 speakers, just speakers as rears which have one of cleanest bass for a speaker, and this subwoofer can match it beat by beat and is as clean as my RB-81s and please do not forget RB-81 is a great speaker in itself. This subwoofer does not rumble by itself at all however it does rumble when a movie director like that of Avatar wants it to rumble, otherwise you can feel every beat and not just thumping.
The first time I got it, I was a little disappointed as it was not boomy, but then realized that it is not supposed to be boomy compared to my previous Klipsch Sub-12 subwoofer because it is far more detailed. The experience is unimaginable if you have not heard clean bass. I can feel a suction in my heart when the beats are out of phase.
Reason Ribbed elliptical surround makes the subwoofer not to distort and makes it tight by acting like a reinforced spring, fiberglass used for the cone is a material far superior than polymer or polypropylene which is light but still really hard which keeps the driver cone in shape and prevent distortion. Consider that overpriced Bose is all made up of paper
Power 300W RMS is a lot of power, I am scared that even at 200W, it can bring my walls down. I can hear the rattling but that rattle originates from my walls but not the sub, it is still as clean as my RB-81s.
Last night I was watching a movie, I had to turn it down because it felt like an earthquake every few minutes and I felt overpowered by something magical. I was scared that I may be swallowed by the earthquake.
OK, I am not into aesthetics. I choose something only because how it sounds but this subwoofer stands out in looks too, small with gloss black finish, what else do you want. I would have been happy to pay full MSRP if I had the money but....
Value Mirage subwoofers are a steal, they are worth more than their MSRPs if you can afford them . At more than 50 percent discount, it is a crime. The only reason they are going so cheap is because somehow MIRAGE OMD Series never got going and so these were discontinued along with the OMD-28.
One suggestion, Subwoofers are never required to be VOICE MATCHED, you can add any subwoofer to any other kind of speaker, the only consideration is the optimal low pass crossover, which in this case is 70-100Hz. All speaker companies recommend their own speakers but hey is not that a marketing gimmick. This sub will go along with any other speaker in the marker and you will find like I did that it is the best component of your whole home theater.
At last, I am kinda tired of saying the same good things again and again about Vanns. Its a great company....Great prices, excellent customer service, free and prompt shipping for such heavy items. I am such a happy customer.

I picked MIrage speakers, however continued to use my Polk subwoofer. Thie Polk is a 4-5 inches longer in depth than the Mirage, therefore fitting the room location with less noticeable presence. Performance is every bit as equal or surpasses the Polk, great deep bass. Easy instructions outlining installation and settings to match the surround sound speakers performance. I recommnd this subwoofer to anyone who is looking for small size and big performance, this goes for the entire Mirage speaker line up. I LIVED WITH A VELODYNE FOR FOURTEEN YEARS. THE VELODYNE WAS TWICE THE PRICE OF THE MIRAGE AND ONLY HALF THE SUB. THIS IS THE ONE YOU HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR SO STOP THE SEARCHING ALREADY. IT PLAYS TO 21HZ, NO BULL! YOU SIMPLY HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED BASS UNTIL YOU EXPERIENCE THIS SUBWOOFER! GO AHEAD AND DO IT, BUY A FERRARI AT A MUSTANG PRICE. GET THAT 800 POUND GORILLA AND JUST LISTEN TO HIM PLAY THE VIOLIN! OLY ONE FLY IN THE OINTMENT AND THIS IS DIRECT FROM MIRAGE AS I SPENT ABOUT TWENTY MINUTES ON THE PHONE WITH THE MIRAGE REP AND THEY CONFIRMED. YES THGIS SUB DOES REACT TO THE STRENGTH OF THE BASS SIGNAL AS OPPOSED TO THE SIGNZL ITSELF WHICH MEANS THAT IT WILL SHUT ITSELF OFF ON BASS SHY MATERIAL. JUST HOOK IT INTO A POWER STRIP TO TURN IT OFF AND ON SINCE YOU HAVE TO LEAVE IT IN ON POSITION IF YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO IT ON ALLLLL MATERIAL. BUT IT IS SO FABULOUS IN WHAT IT DOES IN A SYSTEM THAT THIS IS EASILY OVERCOME. A DESIGN HICCUP AND MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF A BRAIN FART ON THE PART OF THE DESIGN ENGINEERS OVER AT MIRAGE. The bass remains tight and distortion free. It is not a surprise that this subwoofer still sells at full retail price. I only have the subwoofer volume turned a little under halfway, and it still delivers enough solid bass for a living room size 15x20. I got the Prestige S10 mainly because of my satisfaction with the Mirage system I previously purchased from Vanns. I considered Hsu, Paradigm, and a couple others, but went with this sub just to give it a try - and the price was great. It seemlessly blends in with my OMD-15 based system. Even though it is in a very large open room, the LFE channel volume on movies is very good. I am still working on optimizing my AVRs crossover and level settings to get the best performance. I wasnt looking for something to shake the walls since this is in our family room. The finish looks great alongside my Black lacquer OMD15s. All in all an outstanding value for a very well designed and built sub.

This subwoofer provides incredibly clean bass. The only thing to keep in mind is that when its in auto mode, there seems to be a lower threshold for turning it on. Dont know if this is standard, but it caused me a little bit of trouble in that I had to get a strong enough bass signal during setup to actually test it out. Minor detail, and regardless I can honestly say Ive never owned a better subwoofer, or appreciated the difference a good one can make.

I recently purchased the Prestige S8 to update from the Nanosat S8 that I previously had and what a difference it has made. This sub really has some punch! I followed the manufactures break-in period of 50 hrs and then had my Onkyo receiver calibrate my speakers with the new sub and WOW! I dont even have the sub at half way and everything from music to movies has come to life. With my old sub I had to have the volume control on up to 8 to get the bass I was looking for and still music just didnt have the punch I was looking for. The phase control and 200W BASH amp. really make the difference.
Thanks for the great sub and great deal Vanns.

This is a very good mid-line subwoofer. I am replacing two large floor-mount front channels with a sub and 2 bookshelf speakers. The bass response is comparable to that of the previous big front channels. This is an excellent subwoofer for anyone looking for a sub to use with small speakers. The sub-woofer is beautiful to look at even though mine is hidden behind the TV.
Set-up Mirage S8 subwoofer 5 Nanosat satellites Pioneer VSX-1019 Receiver
Placement My TV covers a built-in cubby that was intended for a smaller 46 TV. I have the sub placed behind the TV in this cubby.
Sound The sound is excellent. The frequency select knob allows fine tuning of cross-over to match the available selection on my receiver. Sound is clear, crisp... does not overwhelm or rattle. Sub comes with isolation feet to prevent rattle from transmitted frequencies through the floor.
Quality So far no issues. Set-up was simple.
Other information The isolation feet are upside down cones that fit into discs placed on the floor. The discs have a rubber isolation pad on the bottom. it is nearly impossible to get the sub positioned without these rubber pads sliding off the bottom of the discs. I ended up tossing the rubber pads, and gluing a felt pad for furniture feet to the bottom of the discs. If you are going to place your sub in a visible area, this is something to keep in mind.

I bought this subwoofer to complete my 2.1 winter system. I use the Mirage OMD-5 for the satellites, and a Roth MC4 Tube PreampSolid state amplifier. Even though the Roth only has 12 watts per channel, it does an amazing job of pushing the Mirage speakers, and the tube sound is sublime. I need this system to pack into my car for the trek across the country each 6 months, and so I required a sub that is compact, yet powerful, with a broad musical range. This is the sub to fill all my needs.
Setup I use the speaker level connections from both left and right channels with bare wire to the sub, and banana plugs to the speakers. I set the crossover at 100hz, as that turned out to be the best blending with the OMD-5s. I am running at about 23 volume, as I have it located in front of the speakers, and between them, so I get no reinforcement from a wall or corner. This is actually the best location for blending the bass.
Music This is what I use this sub for on a daily basis, for at least 4 hours. Here are some songs I used to test itÂ…after a proper break-in period.
Primus ‘Tippi Toes’ This song has a seriously powerful bass line running through it, and the sub kept up without any drop out. Tough to do.
Tool ‘Parabol’ and ‘Parabola’ The song Parabol has a really slow, liquid bass running through it, and it sounds amazing. Then Parabola kicks it up and the sub provides the impact that is required from this song.
Gwyneth Herbert ‘My Narrow Man’ This song starts with a wonderful standup bass, that sounds like it is sitting in my living room. So musical and smooth…with zero distortion or boom.
Emanon ‘Pseudo’ Wanted to test the computer generated bass in a rap song…powerful, and clean. It has more of a laidback bass, and really sounds open and authoritative.
The Streets ‘Blinded by the Lights’ More computer generated rap beats…lovely.
Sia ‘Moon’ This is a melodic tune with a seriously sub-bass running through it. When that uber deep tone hits, the house shakes…making me happy. -D
Movies I use this system to drive my television, and my dvd player in my winter system. I donÂ’t watch a lot of TV or movies, but I watched a few to gauge the performance. What better movie than the new Star Trek. - The sound track is really well done, and the sub really made the movie come to life. Deep, clean, tight bass, with no distortion at allÂ…really tremendous. There are several segments where there is a constant low-level tone ship engine, etc., and there is music playing as well. The sub was able to produce everything I asked it to do, in a wonderfully musical fashion. Shook the windows as well. -D
Conclusion This sub does an amazing job of reproducing the low-end, down below 30hzÂ…which is amazing for sub of this size. Mirage quality is always top notch...I now use Mirage speakers and subs exclusively for three systems. It is a very musical sub, yet can produce the effects in a movie with authority. I absolutely recommend buying this sub. You will never regret it.

I have had the pleasure of owning this sub for approximately 3 years. Of all of the subs I have ever owned Velodyne, Cerwin Vega, this just may be the most distorition free sub I have ever heard. Unlike other subs I have owned, I could walk into another room, and I do not hear any rattling of the walls or any other thing in the room. I have placed things on top of this sub, and I feel no rattling, all I hear is precise, clean bass that sounds very natural. I have changed speakers atleast three times since I have owned this sub. I originally had this sub hooked up to some omni60 speakers, then to a 7.1 setup of omni 550, c150, and omni 150 speakers that I got from Vanns at a great price. Now I have it hooked up to a Mirage OMD setup. If you like clean precise bass, this is the sub to get. You wont be sorry.

I was shopping for the high end one such as Monitor audio, Focal JM Lab, Rel...etc. between $1000-1500 but couldnt find the dealer that let me listen to it first.
I thought why should I spend that much money without listen to it first. I was looking around and found Vanns has Mirage prestige S10 good size for my room, looks nice and good price. I decided to take risk and Im glad I did. Im now 200 happy with it. It is hard to find a sub that is good for music and movie. This is the one. On top of everything Vanns is such great with customer service. Especially, Kevin is awsome guy. He made feel that He is happy to help which is really hard to find, with my own experience.
My review is a bit long, but I want to give you guys as much detail as I can so that you guys are not hesitate to buy this sub. Im a big fan of Mirage sub now.

I have never own Mirage product before but Ive heard so many good things about them. Anyhow, I am trying to build a home theater system and the only part I am missing is a subwoofer. I hesitated a little when I first saw this subwoofer at Vanns but I decided to give it a try anyway since the price is so affordable. I received the subwoofer within a few days and thanks for Vanns for the quick shipping and processing of the order. When I first open the box, the subwoofer appearance just amazes me! It came with a beautiful high gloss black finish and the connection terminals on the back are all gold plated. There is NOTHING cheap about this subwoofer. I hooked up and let it play a couple of CDs for it to break in. The following day, I gave the sub a close listen. This sub just excel in every aspect. The bass is really deep and room-filling without giving you a boomy sound. The lower frequency coming from this sub is very tight and defined. This thing is quiet needed but will roar when it turn came. I listen to music alot and the bass is very smooth for music. I couldnt be any happier with my purchase. I highly recommend this sub to anyone wanting good bass for music and movie.

I bought this Sub as part of the Vanns Mirage OMD package two months ago. I was originally concerned that the 8 inch woofer would be too small for my large great room. All I can say is there was absolutely no reason for worry. We just finished up watching a movie and as my family said, that sounds just like when we go to the good theatre. This was the loudest I have had the sub and we could not have taken any more bass. There was ZERO distortion or breakup and just pounding bass coming from the unit. I have it accompanying OMD15 fronts and OMD5 surrounds all driven by a Sony 3400ES. I couldnt be happier, especially at the price.

This sub is nicely built by Mirage, black glossy finish and its only about a foot in dimension which allows me to just slide it into the bottom of my wall shelf. I had to do the break-in per Mirage recommendation by hooking it up to the audio out of my DVD player and set the crossover to active. Let it play music for 30-40 hours.
I wasnt sure what to expect but first time I cranked it up was when I had guests over watching movie, there was a car explosion scene and that kinda scared them off. The effect was so real and I only had the volume set to the default. Overall it produces nice punch from what has always been missing in my speaker setup. I thought I dont need a sub since I have FS, but Im wrong. My room is about 10 x 14 and the sub is placed at the corner and its more than enough for our room. I dont enjoy it as much for listening to music as I prefer the softer base coming out of my FS. It is definitely great for movie. Highly recommend for this price and plus Vanns has the best price!

It did take about 50-hours of break-in before the unit could be adjusted for accuracy and you will notice a difference. I now own a 10 inch and an 8 inch Mirage sub for two seperate systems. I replaced older subs from two other brands with Mirage based on the urging of a friend. He was absolutely right. The Mirage subs are truly remarkable. I listened to over 10 subs from multiple brands before I bought the Mirage wasnt quite ready to blindly trust my friend about this. The bottom line is, these subs play VERY low, very loud, and they are very musical. According to the Mirage website, they use a new type of woofer surround that is patented and it greatly lowers distortion, so you end up with very clean sound AND a lot of bass output. I could not be happier with these subs. They are GREAT!

Are you kidding me??? This subwoofer ROCKS! Ive had a few subs through the years and most of them were capable of rattling my fillings, frightening the pets, and probably damaging my hearing. Apparently thats easy. This sub can do all of that, but its also very tight, and sounds great with music. And it was easy to blend with my Mirage Omnisat V2 FS main speakers. They say these Mirage subs are very low in distortion. I guess thats the big difference with this versus other subs. I have not heard, and can not imagine a cleaner, lower, louder playing subwoofer anywhere near this $500 price. A friend turned me on to Mirage, and specifically the subwoofers. He said they were as good as subs that are over double the price. I thought he was exagerating, but now I agree. If youre in the market for a subwoofer, youd be crazy not to seriously consider this one!
