Bass worthy of the source
Speakers reproduce sound. In the real world, the deep rumble of a helicopter's blades or the low groan of a standing bass occur pure and unfettered. When those sounds are recorded and then reproduced using a speaker, however, they are susceptible to distortion. When playing back a sound, the natural movement of a speaker's parts can result in resonance that alters the sound you ultimately hear. Bent on making sure that you hear that chopper blade's rumble and the bass's moan, Polk has designed the Monitor Series PSW10 subwoofer with a series of distortion-reducing technologies. Let's start with the PSW10's Klippel-optimized driver. The folks at Polk use a laser Klippel Distortion Analyzer to optimize motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to achieve symmetrical driver movement. The more symmetrical and consistent a driver's motion is, the less distortion of sound that results. Klippel analysis assures a consistent, symmetrical driver movement for cleaner, clearer low-frequency performance.
Dynamic Balance for reduced distortion, enhanced performance
In our exploration of the multitude of ways in which the PSW10 combats distortion, let's look now at another laser-based technology used by Polk — Dynamic Balance®. This technology uses laser imaging to create the right combinations of materials, driver geometry, and construction techniques to dramatically reduce the 10" driver's resonance while also producing flat frequency response, sharp detail, transparency, and dynamic wide-range audio reproduction.
Brace yourself
As a final measure toward controlling sources of distortion, the PSW10 features a non-resonant MDF (medium-density fiberboard) cabinet construction using internal bracing for low distortion, deep bass impact, and superior detail, accuracy, and musicality.
Power and versatility
For bass performance that seamlessly integrates with your home audio system and delivers clear, impacting low-frequency reproduction, look to powered subwoofer systems with multiple input options. The Polk Audio PSW10 uses a built-in high-current amplifier, offering 50W of clean, low-distortion power for all your bass needs. Featuring both line- and speaker-level inputs, the PSW10 gives you versatile connectivity options for incorporating this Polk subwoofer into your current system. Finally, a variety of features, including adjustable low-pass crossover, phase switch, volume control, and auto on/off circuitry give you control over bass output and the sub's blending characteristics with your front stage speakers. Finally, a forward-firing flared port extends bass efficiency and performance.
The finishing touches — cables
Go one step further in your quest to reach the pinnacle of home audio. A high-performance sub like your new Polk Audio PSW10 can only help your home audio system reach its full potential if it is receiving a quality, high-integrity audio signal. Audio cables — chosen specifically for the needs of your system — deliver the ability to maximize your PSW10's potential. View the accessories list attached to the PSW10 at Vanns.com or call a Vann's customer service representative at the 800 number at the top of this page for assistance in selecting the right set of cables.

Solid bass comes from a well designed and constructed cabinet, plenty of volume for a small to medium sized room. I prefer a front firing sub because of the upper bass dynamics and this little guy can really crank it out. Sound field adjustments may have to be made to get optimum performance, I would suggest using the line level inputs, the sound is cleaner and the amp won't have to work as hard. If your amp or receiver doesn't have Pre-amp outputs, the headphone jack will work using the proper adapters. I liked it so much I may get another one!

Purchased this when my expensive Jamo SW started to shut down intermittently. We have it in a 12x21 room with 17 ceilings and it more than does the job, even at partial volume. I particularly love the standby setting, as I no longer have to worry about my husband forgetting to turn off the piece at the end of the night. It sits in standby mode until it detects a signal, then activates, unlike our old Jamo one, but of course you always have the other two switch settings to choose from for either completely on or off. The unit is attractive to look at and works wonderfully for the price. No regrets here about purchasing this item, especially at such a great price!

I bought this to replace a 10 year old sub that I had recently been having problems with. I was working with a limited budget and had been looking at Polk Audio subs to match my Polk Audio center channel. When I was first looking, this sub was what I wanted but was still saving money to replace the old one. I found it for $275 to $300 at most retailers. I held out and much to my surprise and excitement, it showed up at Vanns for just under $100.
It sounds great so much better than the one it replaced. It is easy to set up literally 5 minutes. You can adjust it for listening to music, watching everyday TV and watching movies. If you are looking to put some punch into your home theater system and dont want to break the bank, this sub is for you.

This nice little subwoofer was by far the best option for the price. It packs lots of power, and would probably work well for a fairly large room. I use this in a small studio with hardwood floors, so it really works well. The low-end isnt very tightfocused, but what do you expect for spending less than $100?
Unless you are willing to spend 3x the price on a bigger sub, buy this right now!

I have had my Polk PSW10 for a week now and am very happy with it. Mind you, Im no audiophile, and this bass is part of my first real sound system, but it provides ample sound for my living room. In fact, I keep it right at the mid-way point on the volume knob. Any higher and the bass is just too powerful for music and movies. Not an audiophile, but I have gradually replaced my secondary Yamaha 5.1 basement setup with Polk speakers. And when I saw this for an amazing price, with the good reviews, I jumped. It is definitely a step up, adding a whole new dimension to my viewing and listening pleasure. It is an oddity that the SW only has dual inputs, whereas the manual notes that the 12 model has a single input. Still, not enough of a hassle to knock points off, and I got a splitter and all is well. A single could be used but I read several opinions that doing so made the SW less effective.

Im a long time Polk Audio fan have all their stuff in my home theater, but even I was skeptical when I saw the 50W rating on this sub. Underpowered subs are always useless, but as usual, Polk has done well with this setup. The 50W is more than enough for this well built box and really kicks at low-medium levels. I use it in my office, I know, that sounds wimpy but I am a youth minister in an office where we are constantly hanging out with kids and pumping music and movies. The room is 20 x 16 and this sub fills it perfectly. As long as you arent looking to blast the neighbors ears or fill a GIANT room, this is your low cost solution. I was very impressed from the moment I opened the box. Some people commented that the black box isnt much to look at, well I tend to disagree. I have wood flooring and it looks perfect in the corner of my media room. But then I heard it for the first time and WOW, impressed even more. Sure, its not the biggest and baddest powered sub but it sure packs a punch. And being from a reputable company such as PolkAudio why wouldnt it.
Im powering it through the Denon AVR-689 in conjunction with five surrounds and two floor standing 12inch Fishers, I must say that it all flows together perfectly.
I install high-end audio & video systems for a living and though what I have does not even compare, I beleive this sub comes close to the Paradigm 10s I install. For a fraction of the cost!
I love the inverted cone and the thick rubber surround, that way I know I will be able to hear a lower frequency than what my Fishers are capable of reproducing. Sounds awesome with every thing I watch & listen to, and Im sure you will feel the same way when you get one.
All in all, what an excellent purchase. And to think, I was going to get a Sony! Hah! Good thing I didnt.

I purchased this to add deep base to our home stereo. I have it matched to a pair of polk tsi100 speakers and a BIC america center channel speaker. The sub woofer added great depth in the base and has really rounded the system. I am not an audiophile and have nothing else to compare this too but it sounds great to me.

Thought of it as a temporary fix until I could afford nicer equipment, but now I think Ill stay with this subwoofer.

I purchase this Polk 10 sub without hearing it. I consulted someone from Vanns to ask him about this particular one. My first choice I couldnt afford, so I ask about 3 others and he suggested this one and assured me I would be impressed and boy was I. I have a pretty good size room, so I knew that what might sound good in a tight room may not sound great in a decent sized space. Once I hooked up to my entertainment center, I almost blew the windows out. They thumped. Of course I dont have them blasting, was just testing. You cannot beat Vanns pricing or the free shipping with no tax. I purchased several Items from Vanns at the same time and they arrived in just a few days. Now everyone is wanting to come over and listen to my system and watch movies.

I decided to purchase two of these little guys for my home theater. After hooking them up and doing some tweaking I was able to sit and relax and watch a blu-ray. I immediately was surprised by the performance of these subwoofers. For budget subwoofers these performed VERY well. I do however recommend purchasing two if you are using a large room for your theater but for a little over $100 why not! This sub as great adjustability options and power save mode that makes it an even better buy. I think I may buy a couple more!

This sub is perfect for what it was designed for, normal people wanting good bass. I wouldnt even know the difference between this and a $500 sub, because I would never pay $500 for a sub. Who do I look like? Mr. Rogers? My setup was two awesome floorstanding infinity speakers that I got on clearance awhile back. They sound amazing, but the largest speaker in each are dual 6 12 woofers. So not really any low end. I hooked up the sub to the subwoofer out, and turned the subs low pass all the way up, and matched my amps internal passover to the 160 hz no need for LFE input on sub, turned it up, and left the bass output to both sub and large front speakers. Now my system sounds full and clear. I have to keep the subs volume on 50 . It has a lot more available bass to shake the walls, but then it overtakes the clarity of the infinitys. So this sub does exactly what it was meant to, fill in the low end in my stereo system, perfectly, and at just over $100, you cant beat that. Certainly not with another $200!

Considering the price of this sub-woofer I consider it an outstanding value. Its by no means an Audiophile sub-woofer, but for most mid-range home theater systems it cant be beat. It tends to be a bit directional no matter where its pointed but it has a pretty tight low end, which is the whole point with a sub-woofer. Blend this with a decent bookshelf system, play around with the filter and locate it as close to the center of your listening room and youll be pleasantly surprised at how good this blends into your system.

I bought this speaker when it was $100, for that price the sound quality cant be beat. Build quality seems to be good with ample controls on the back of the unit to fine-tune the sound to your liking. The setup is quite simple and took 15 minutes to complete. If you find a similar deal on this model and are in the market for a subwoofer that handles surround sound well, this is a great model.

I already owned one of these subwoofers, and I liked it so much I asked for another one, for christmas. Having a pair of them is such an awesome experience and in my opinion works much better than a single $250 12 sub. I use them for watching movies, listening to musicmostly techno and rap, and the psw10s work good enough to impress my friend with his 15 mtx 1200watts in his car I LOVE how immersive it feels when I fire the 125mm gun on the tanks in the battlefield games, it feels just like the wave of pressure you experience when someone fires a hunting rifle near you! The following tinnitus depends on how powerful your front speakers are though.I plan on buying a third for my living room.I am able to hook it up in my truck with a power inverter and a long rca cable, which I do so very often, and remove it when I go inside my house so it wont be stolen. It is very easy to hookup and I did not have to read the instructions to understand how everything on the back worked. I would not recommend this subwoofer if you plan on putting it into a large room, I have my pair in a 12x20 room and they fill it perfectly but the effect is greatly diminished by a 20x30 room in my house.

It delivers the bass as advertised with a lot of punch to spare. The Bass is solid and not boomy at all. The unit is very clean looking and fits my home theater setup perfect. Hookup is a snap with multiple input connectors available....you cant go wrong with this one. If you think you need a huge subwoofer for great bass you need to take a close look at this unit...it really delivers. The performance of this subwoofer plus the great service from Vanns guarantees me to be a returning customer.
