Bass worthy of the source
Speakers reproduce sound. In the real world, the deep rumble of a helicopter's blades or the low groan of a standing bass occur pure and unfettered. When those sounds are recorded and then reproduced using a speaker, however, they are susceptible to distortion. When playing back a sound, the natural movement of a speaker's parts can result in resonance that alters the sound you ultimately hear. Bent on making sure that you hear that chopper blade's rumble and the bass's moan, Polk has designed the Monitor Series PSW10 subwoofer with a series of distortion-reducing technologies. Let's start with the PSW10's Klippel-optimized driver. The folks at Polk use a laser Klippel Distortion Analyzer to optimize motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to achieve symmetrical driver movement. The more symmetrical and consistent a driver's motion is, the less distortion of sound that results. Klippel analysis assures a consistent, symmetrical driver movement for cleaner, clearer low-frequency performance.
Dynamic Balance for reduced distortion, enhanced performance
In our exploration of the multitude of ways in which the PSW10 combats distortion, let's look now at another laser-based technology used by Polk — Dynamic Balance®. This technology uses laser imaging to create the right combinations of materials, driver geometry, and construction techniques to dramatically reduce the 10" driver's resonance while also producing flat frequency response, sharp detail, transparency, and dynamic wide-range audio reproduction.
Brace yourself
As a final measure toward controlling sources of distortion, the PSW10 features a non-resonant MDF (medium-density fiberboard) cabinet construction using internal bracing for low distortion, deep bass impact, and superior detail, accuracy, and musicality.
Power and versatility
For bass performance that seamlessly integrates with your home audio system and delivers clear, impacting low-frequency reproduction, look to powered subwoofer systems with multiple input options. The Polk Audio PSW10 uses a built-in high-current amplifier, offering 50W of clean, low-distortion power for all your bass needs. Featuring both line- and speaker-level inputs, the PSW10 gives you versatile connectivity options for incorporating this Polk subwoofer into your current system. Finally, a variety of features, including adjustable low-pass crossover, phase switch, volume control, and auto on/off circuitry give you control over bass output and the sub's blending characteristics with your front stage speakers. Finally, a forward-firing flared port extends bass efficiency and performance.
The finishing touches — cables
Go one step further in your quest to reach the pinnacle of home audio. A high-performance sub like your new Polk Audio PSW10 can only help your home audio system reach its full potential if it is receiving a quality, high-integrity audio signal. Audio cables — chosen specifically for the needs of your system — deliver the ability to maximize your PSW10's potential. View the accessories list attached to the PSW10 at Vanns.com or call a Vann's customer service representative at the 800 number at the top of this page for assistance in selecting the right set of cables.

When I first unboxed this subwoofer I was very impressed with the quality of appearence, the cherry finish, I think, is so much more appealing than standard black. Next step was to get it up and running, which took all of thirty seconds. Immediately, I was impressed by the tight clean sound and not boomy, only slight adjustments were needed. For sporting only fifty watts this sub kicks, I use it mostly for listening to music but also for home theater. This is no 15 sub with 400 watts behind it but for a hundred bucks, it sounds like a million, 5 stars!!

This was a great choice for a quality, affordable speaker. Easy to set up, and it sound great wherever I put it in the room. Versitile, with a variety of connections for different types of connections to the amp. It even has a pass through so if I want to put it on the other side of the room, I can add an additional pair of speakers, connecting them to the outputs on this subwoofer. Nice to not have to drill too many holes in the hardwood floors - so the subwoofer, not only sounds great, but it helps me preserve my marriage.

It is only rated at 50 Watts, but its output is greater than some others that I have tried up to 200 Watt output. So, dont worry about that figure.

To be honest, I was a little hesitant in purchasing this subwoofer at first ultimately the extremely low price from Vanns helped influence the final decision, but after setting it up and experimenting with different settings on my receiver it works great. Keep in mind i have a pretty small studio apartment 6-700 sq ft, and this sub is probably on par with the size of the room. Anything bigger would probably require more than 50W. All things considered, however, this sub has a great tone, adequately stylish craftmanship, and easy compatibility with any home theater system.

I must say when I saw the price I could not believe it. I have been looking for a sub for sometime now and wanted one but did not want to break the bank. I have heard Polk speakers in stores but never in a home but for the price I knew I was getting a deal. I am not the one to hook up speakers but this was too easy ,a 10 year old could do this. The install was very easy and straight foward.I played some music and it was okay I was not impressed but glad I had it. I read the rest of the book and placed the sub where they told me and BOOM!!!!! I could not believe the sub I just bought. I have a 1,948 sq ft two story home and I placed it in the corner of my family room. I can hear it upstairs and I have not maxed out the volume on the sub. The delivery and customer service was top of the line Thanks Vanns. With some of my CDS it sounds like a car but I am sitting in my house. If you are looking for a sub and not wanting to break the bank dont pass this up. Polk makes a good sub it wont over power you with bass but it is more than enough to get the job done by far and its good looking to. Vanns custmoer service was right on the money when they told me what I was getting and they will see my money again. So if you are looking for a sub and dont want to break the bank dont pass this up.

I bought this PSW10 to replace a 10 inch Velodyne that went out prematurely. The amp in the velodyne gave out after 4 months, imagine that! I have owned Polk Audio equipment in the past and have been nothing but pleased with their performance. This is no exception! With the right source signal and proper amp settings this sub hits HARD and clean. It is very tight and controlled not muddy or excessively boomy. The trick is to calibrate your sound system and match the intention of the artist or director...Setting this sub way too high in an attempt to compete with your neighbor is going to create a boomy effect. Dont get me wrong, this sub can hit hard enough to knock my pictures off the wall in the kitchen three rooms over, but that is not my intention.
I would like to shed some light on subs and home audio. First of all, a subwoofers job is to channel all the lower frequencies your main front speakers are not meant to produce into the subwoofer. To do this you need three things, a crossover, a mono channel amplifier and a driver. None on these things should add up to 4-500 dollars! This subwoofer produces the same sound my 400 dollar velodyne 10 inch produced at one fourth the price! Why pay more?
This sub sounds absolutely amazing in both music and movies, I would highly recommend this sub to anyone looking to complete their home theater.
As a side note, if your receiver has a subwoofer pre-out make sure to get not only a subwoofer rca cable but also get a female to two male Y adapter. This will improve signal strength to your subs amp and allow it to hit harder.

This unit is well built, and adds a dimension to sound quality that is immediately apparent. The PSW10 is easy to hook up, and attractive I chose the cherry finish. For home use, I would strongly recommend this product. Vanns customer support person was also knowledgeable, and it was clear they were not trying to sell me on a unit, but informing me about a product that would best meet my needs. I would recommend contact with Vanns as a part of your research. Vanns prices are the best around as well. The product was shipped rapidly, and arrived on perfect condition a day early!

Bugdet sub that looks great in cherry finish, but doesnt sound that great. Weak 50 watt RMS amp just does not push this sub hard enough to generate any substantial bass. Front firing ported design creates noticable deadzones throughout even the smallest of listening areas, where the bass sounds non-existant. Has a great deal of trouble reproducing certain frequency ranges, in movies and music, even after hours of fiddling with the low pass filter adjustment. All in all, a great looking sub for around $100, but really doesnt add much to any good reference tower speakers. Decent addition to a lower-end set of 2 ways speakers where any bass addition is welcomed I would imagine. Does not add anything to my reference setup. Not recommended for midhigh quality home audio setups. Decent entry level sub if looks and price are the most important factors.

Let me start by saying, for $100 this sub looks fantastic in the cherry finish but the sound is far from impressive. Many users complain about the lack of power, and I completely agree. It is significantly underpowered with only a 50 watt RMS amp paired to the 10 driver. As for many users complaining about port noise, I have had none of that but I am assuming that is because this sub simply doesnt get loud enough to generate port noise! The overall output is very disappointing and even at this price point, I would expect better. The bugdet Paradigm and Jamo subs destroy this sub in practically every aspect and can be had for a bit more near $200 online. Even though it is inexpensive, I will spend a bit more in the future and get a sub that puts out some actual bass. Some frequencies are barely audible and it is downright terrible as a home theater sub. Music sounds better, but still creates soft spots throughout my small living room, even with recommended placement. I am embarassed to say that I was heavily swayed by the review on cnet, in which the cnet editors gave this poor little sub 3.5 out of 5 stars. In my opinion it deserves about 2 or 2.5 out of 5 at most. Overall, a decent sub for $100 and in the cherry finish, is almost worth the money as a piece of furniture. Unfortunately, compared to other quality subs, it is basically just that - a piece of furniture and not a very good home audio subwoofer.

The Polk PSW10, while by no means a high performance unit, is a great value. when my PC speakers sub-amp combo-box died I decided I would be getting more bang for the buck just replacing the sub and using my existing speakers. The problem was that the receiver I had available had no line level sub hookup and so I needed a sub that supported speaker level input. Having been satisfied with Polk equipment in the past and with a preferred budget of under $150 I narrowed my search to the PSW10.
The speaker level inputs work just fine as far as I can tell. The bass isnt overly crisp but I honestly think that that is more of a shortcoming of this particular sub than it is an issue with the input method.
One area where Im very pleased with the PSW10 is in low volume situations. Ive owned other, slightly more expensive, subs that dont scale well for quiet listening environments and since I live in an apartment, good sounding yet quiet music is important.
One issue that Ive noticed with this sub is that it can be overly boomy. Generally I listen to my music with the sub at around one third of its full volume with the crossover set to around 150hz I say generally because I can easily change its settings from my desk. The sub would behave better with a much lower crossover but due to the limited low end on my speakers Im forced to use this setting. Using a lower crossover pretty much mitigates the boomy aspect of the sub though, so if your speakers go a little lower this probably wont be an issue.
It also seems to handle less bass heavy music far more gracefully than it does genres like hip-hop. After a few weeks of ownership I still find myself turning it down every now-and-then when certain songs come on my playlist. Its not so much that there is too much bass either, its more so the horrible port noise it can make at high volumes.
While several of these issues may seem severe, they are really not as glaring as they sound. And really, I doubt youll find a sub without them in this price range. In summary, if money is a factor, the Polk PSW10 is a great choice.

Good subwoofer. Easy to hookup and beautifully designed and finished. I would call this a budget level sub-woofer, as it runs in the $100 range. For that price, it works fine. But it cant rival more expensive models. It misses some of the truly low bass, and tends to rattle a bit at high volumes. Its probably great for rock music where louder is better, a bit less suitable for classic and jazz. Still, I like it and it works well with my Polk speakers, looks great, and at reasonable volumes performs quite well.

Great with any system, I paired the polk with a pair of B&W 8 series speakers hi end audiophile delight and was surprisingly not disappointed. The cross over and fine tuning was easy enough to tweak to my needs, and it seemed like the variety of input options would fit just about anyones system requirements. I bought this subwoofer to match another one I already had, which was the same model but in black, in my home theater. I have read that one should have two subwoofers in any reasonable sized home theater. Mine is about 15 by 17 feet. This will balance out the bass and reduce standing waves in your room. This subwoofer fit the bill and I am very happy with its performance. It does not go as deep as the more expensive subwoofers, but matches my Polk speakers perfectly.

This Sub came up on special on Vanns few days ago,.. I snatched one,..I did not know what to expect at first, having owned the Yamaha yst SW315 & the Sw-215 and the Polk psw 505, i thought I am settling for smaller sub to compliment my office audiovideo system Polk 2 MoniorM-60 Front and CS1 center and 2 in ceIling 150 weach pair of speakerS for surround,.
As this sub does not have and LFE input I used a Y splitter and connected it to the coax cable coming out from my preamp sub av receiver Sony str-dn1000.
This sub brought my system to life, the muscic coming from my cd palyer and squeeze box receiver were awsome. i tried it with movies dark night, not BD but played on BD player, LG-370,.. wow, wow, wow..... The sound of the subwoofer blended in with the rest of the speakers and gave it a different dimension,.. very tight and powerful punches,.. what an experience.
Just make sure to turn the frequency filter knob next to volume knob all the way up , as per polks audio recommendation, i did and the sound was just, excellent....
This litte sub rivals the 12 psw505, as it delivered very similar and powerful, clean tight base.
I was so excited about it, i bought a second one to run them together,. yeah, it is that sweet...
Get it, trust me you will be gade you did.
as usual Vanns service rocks, excellent customer service and very curtious sales rep.
