I ordered a pair of MM8s from Vanns last Fall to fill out the bottom range of my much-loved OMD-15s. They are an excellent match--they fill in where the OMD-15s bass starts to roll off, the subs are lively and quick, able to add lower fundamentals that integrate well with the OMD-15s upper bass, which is quick and responsive. the MM8s wide range their controls--volume, phase from 0 to 360 deg., and crossover from 50 Hz to 200 Hz or none--enable you to blend the subs seamlessly with your main speakers if you take the time and listen carefully. It helps that the cones are very lightweight and stiff aluminum with Mirages patented and very effective ribbed surrounds, and theres plenty of power on tap.
Remember, these are *little* subs. They can put out meaningful bass to around 36 Hz, but dont expect even two of them to make you jump out of your seat for home theater. They have excellent output and bass extension for their size but they wont likely shake your room. If you have a smaller home theater and use something like OMD5s, NanoSats, or OmniSats as mains, these subs will blend very well with those speakers in home theater in a small-to-mid-sized room. They are at their best in a music system, filling out the 36-100 Hz region for bass-shy or stand-mounted speakers to give more body to kick drum and bass for rock, pop, and jazz, and more fullness and body for symphonic. They make my system sound bigger and more dynamic.
At their list price of $799 you can get harder hitting and deeper subs, but not in a 9 cube. When on sale the MM8s are an unparalleled value.

I didnt expect a whole lot from a cube subwoofer however i couldnt even really tell when it was on. It basically provided no low end bass at all. For a sub that advertises 1200 watts and had a ~$700 price tag on it at one time the performance was poor at best. Even after adjusting my cross over frequencies for my mains and messing with the phase it didnt really make a difference.
I ended up sending it back even though i initially thought it was a great value at $279. Not even worth $279 if it doesnt really provide low-end.

I just received this speaker that I bought from Vanns. Im very happy with their customer service and this product. I tested it with my Marantz Pre-Amp AV7005 and it sounds wonderful and the design is very suitable for the Home Audio System because of its size and the quality. I would give this subwoofer 5 stars with an A customer service for Vanns.

I have a zVox 425x and was looking for a subwoofer that could round out the lower end. This fit - literally - into my plans since the small cube allowed me to completely hide it. A shame since so well constructed. The polishing cloth for the enclosure was wasted on me but a classy touch and in line with the Mirage reputation. Controls and adjustments are simple - hookup was plug in and power up - voila! Vanns packaging and delivery superb as expected.

If you like tight controlled bass, the MM8 is a nice subwoofer. I have it paired with 5 x OMD5 and it does a nice job of rounding out the lower frequencies. Sound is clear and tight without excess distorted boomy sound. The room size is 14x30. It sounds good with house, hip-hop, pop and movies. The only concern I have is the passive radiators on the sides do not have covers and im wary that they could be easily punctured, which is much less of a concern if there re no pets or kids in the house. I would not have purchased this at retail price, but I got a great deal through Vanns.

I purchased the MM8 in February, through Vanns, and amazon. I like the seven layers of hand-sanded polyurethane. I took the time to break it in for the 50hours as recommended. This is used as a second subwoofer in my set up. It performs remarkably well. It gives clear tight bass. It blends well with my Paradigm PW2200, a subwoofer significantly more in stature.
The added bass the mm8 offers is timely, accurate and not boomy. I run the low pass filter with the bypass on. The phase control is set at 180 degrees. Volume level at mid range. I ran it thru the tests using Sades soldier of love song. This takes the bass to very low frequency. If the sub only goes down to 36hz as advertized, i did not hear any distortion. Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology provides true depth without distortion. I also ran it against the sound and vision magazine recommendation of the blu-ray kick ass which has a great 7.1 dolby digital master audio soundtrack, the mm8 performed very well.
I have my large paradigm speakers set to small, which allows all the bass to be routed to the subwoofers. I think the mm8 would do well in a small to medium room. A large room i would use it as a second, third, or fourth sub.
I am very satisfied with my purchase I bought this during Vanns half price sale. Vanns is excellent to deal with. I use a US address and only hope they will start mailing to Canada in the future.

The MM8 is a beautifully made, compact sub, and with a significant discount the price was good. However, without an extremely powerful amp like in the similarly sized Paradigm or Sunfire there is only so much bass you can coax out of a 9 inch cube. The sound is clean, but only extends down to 36Hz according to the specs.
If you have a small room and are space limited, it may be for you, but it didnt do it for me. I sent mine back and pulled my 75-watt servo-controlled Velodyne out of the basement.

Although you shouldnt expect to knock the walls down with this little sub, its deceivingly powerful for its size. My wife was tired of my 12 JBL sub taking up space in the living room, so I shopped around for a long time to find a suitable replacement that was small enough and yet powerful enough for a home theater setup.
Let me tell you, this is it.
I have it sitting under a chair in the corner, completely hidden from view which makes my wife happy. Even though its completely hidden, it still has just as much impact as the old JBL did.
Another reviewer knocked it for value because of its price. I found it on sale because Id waited a long time, so I paid well under the full $799 list price.

I have not used the subwoofer more than 50 hours, the manufacturers recommended breaking period for the subwoofer, so I cannot comment on the speaker. However, I can say that Vanns was very helpful when my frist delivery of the subwoof was mishandled by the shipper. A credit was provided in a reasonalbe time frame. The second shipment arrived in good shape. I will buy from Vanns in the future.

I had very little room for a subwoofer - this is the only one I could find that would fit on the bottom shelf of built-in bookshelves.
Performance seems good, though I havent really been able to test it out to the extent Id like yet. I will do that the next time the family is out of town.
It would have been a nice touch if the power cord and RCA jacks were angled down or to the side or something. The way it is now, the cables add another 2.5 inches or so to the depth. You can add an elbow to the RCA jack, but there is no way to address the power cord sticking straight out. Given the space-saving design, that would have been a nice touch.
I knocked them on the value a little, just because this seems like a pretty high price for a little sub. However, its really the only game in town if you need something small.
I do not know how it compares in performance to similarly priced models, as this was the only one I even bothered to listen to given my size limitations.
At the end of the day, I am not disappointed, and it adds depth to the sound.

I ordered OMD 15 series speaker system but Vanns did not have Prestige S10 in stock. So the customer support worked with me to get a replacement and I got MM8 as the replacement. I am happy with this sub. It is a small cube easy to tuck away and has great sound. My furniture vibrates with good music or movie. Feels like the room is moving. Happy with this purchase.
