Not your ordinary subwoofer
Definitive's SuperCubes are a new breed of powered subwoofers which utilize unique technology and components in order to achieve state-of-the-art performance from remarkably small boxes. Remember, it is important to understand when you are evaluating SuperCubes that you can not simply compare them to conventional subwoofers based on driver size. Because of their unique technology, the SuperCubes deliver far superior performance to conventional subwoofers which utilize drivers of 50 - 80 percent larger diameter.
The ultimate ground-pounding bass
Definitive's elegant and ultra-compact SuperCube subwoofers deliver ultimate bass performance from beautiful enclosures that fit anywhere. They combine Definitive-designed, digitally coupled (patent pending) Class D digital switching amplifiers with extremely long-throw, huge magnet, front mounted subwoofer drivers which are tightly coupled to dual side-mounted, pressure driven infrasonic bass radiators. The SuperCubes deliver incredibly deep, high-impact, low-frequency performance which extends to 11Hz (SuperCube Reference) with superbly tuneful high-definition transient response for bass that sounds as good with delicate music as with earth-shaking action movies. The remarkably compact SuperCube features Definitive's signature piano-gloss black end caps and wraparound grill cloth styling.
Top of the heap in low end sound
With the SuperCube Reference, Definitive sets new performance standards for subwoofers, The Reference incorporates a 14" version of the 10" SuperCube Technology driver pressure coupled to two 14" infrasonic radiators. All this is powered by an 1800-watt class D amplifier. The result is astounding high-definition bass performance extending effortlessly down below 11 Hz. Each SuperCube Reference goes lower than and has dynamic impact and output capabilities almost equivalent to that of four smaller SuperCube subwoofers combined. Slam, pace, and rhythm are exemplary as is the ability to actually shake cement slab foundations. A complete complement of inputs and controls, including continuously variable level, high-pass, low-pass and phase controls, speaker and line level in and out, and LFE Direct in, are included on this surprisingly compact and stylish cube.
High-definition drivers
The powerful, high-definition drivers used in all Definitive Technology subwoofers were specifically engineered for their task: to deliver rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest subsonic frequencies, with an outstanding quality of superior transient response unequaled in the world. The special ultra-stiff, low-mass cones (for super-fast transient response) are joined to specially formulated surrounds and long-throw voice coils and spiders. The incredibly rigid baskets are engineered to hold the massive magnet structures and large voice coils in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coils are made of aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire and baked in epoxy for superb power handling.
Rock solid cabinet
The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Resonance and vibration can add unwanted distortion as well as drain away important energy from the system. Definitive's subwoofers utilize monocoque cabinets, which have been specifically engineered to be totally inert and vibration free, to ensure you of absolutely pure sonic reproduction. Monocoque means that the cabinet is of a unitized construction where all panels are permanently joined together into one solid structure. The cabinet walls themselves are high-density medite fused together by space-age polymer adhesives. The front and rear baffles are extra thick and the cabinets each incorporate multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity.
Completely adjustable electronic crossovers
The sophisticated low distortion electronic crossovers incorporated in the SuperCube Reference are a masterpiece of design and execution. They contain a complete range of hookups, circuitry and features which allow the subwoofers to be connected and perfectly blended with any system as well as adjusted for optimum performance in any room. All Definitive subwoofers have continuously adjustable low pass filter controls which allow you to choose a roll-off of from 40 to 150 Hz for the high end of the subwoofer. This unique "dual stage" roll-off is extremely quick which ensures perfect blending with your main speakers as well as no unwanted upper bass or midrange radiation from the subwoofer. This is especially important because it gives you much greater flexibility in placing your subwoofer in your room without being able to hear where it is specifically located. The SuperCube Reference also has a separate low-level direct LFE input for Dolby Digital which bypasses the crossover network. All models have a built-in speaker level high-pass crossover preset at 80 Hz and, of course, a precision level control allows you to perfectly adjust the volume of the subwoofer to match your system and room as well as to fulfill your own personal sonic preferences.
Full range of inputs and outputs
The SuperCube Reference has a complete range of inputs, outputs, and features to allow easy and effective hookup to any system either singly or in a stereo pair. Both (high) speaker level and low-level inputs are provided in case you don't have a subwoofer output. In addition, all models have a separate direct-in LFE low-level input (which bypasses the crossover network) which may be used by itself or in combination with left and right channel high- or low-level inputs for the ultimate in subwoofer flexibility and performance. With a single subwoofer, the subwoofer signal, Dolby Digital LFE signal and/or both left and right signals are sent to the subwoofer and combined via the electronic crossover into one composite signal. With stereo (two) subwoofers, the left and right signals are reproduced by their own respective subwoofer (and the LFE signal is reproduced by both). Very advanced systems may also use a separate subwoofer hooked up to the rear/side surround channels as well as one to the center channel.
