Where does the AppleTV sit? Anywhere you want it to
Apple has always produced devices that change the way we interact with our electronic devices, and the Apple TV is no exception. But first, let's talk about the elephant in the room. The Apple TV has gone through some changes. First, it's gotten a little smaller. And by a little, we mean a lot — it's small enough now that it can fit in the palm of your hand. Of course, better than the palm of your hand, it can fit easily into even the stingiest of home theatre spaces, being only 3.9" on any one side and being less than an inch tall. It's also got HDMI on it, so you can enjoy high definition movies and television on your HDTV. Plus, if you've got a wireless internet network in your home, then that HDMI cable, and the power cord, are going to be the only wires coming from it. So how does this ultra-small device with HD capabilities and very few wires change the way you interact with your HDTV? Read on.
Streaming
You might have heard about something called iTunes from Apple. You remember, it allows you to purchase music and store it on your iPod or iPhone? Did you know that you can also rent movies and television shows through it as well? It's true. Once you've gotten your Apple TV connected to your home Internet network, you can access iTunes and, with the click of a button, rent movies and television shows to be played from your Apple TV on your HDTV. Sure, you could watch them on your computer monitor, but most computer monitors aren't large screen flat panel televisions near your most comfortable seat. With HD movies starting at $4.99, and television show episodes starting at $0.99, there's no reason you should ever find yourself without something to watch. Plus, you have up to 30 days after you rent them to start watching, and once you start, you have 24 hours for movies, and 48 hours for TV, to watch, re-watch, or re-start, just in case one of life's little obstacles stop you from watching right away.
Streaming
Your computer is a great place for a lot of things: looking things up; doing your taxes; buying electronics. But watching movies, or showing off photos on its monitor, and listening to music on the speakers, are probably not high on that list. For those types of things, you may want to utilize something a little bigger, like your home theater system. The Apple TV can act as your streaming hub, taking movies, music, and photos loaded into iTunes, and putting them on your big screen or through your home speaker system. Not only is it going to be a better way to watch and listen: you've got a way more comfortable seat.
. . . and more streaming
Of course, iTunes isn't the only place you can get content. Apple TV gives you access to Netflix, so with a streaming account, you can get access to over 17,000 movies and television shows from your instant queue sent directly to your television. You can also stream video from YouTube, so all the user-generated videos you could want are at your fingertips. Beyond video, you can view photos through Flickr and MobileMe galleries.
Enviro-tainment
The size of the Apple TV isn't the only way its footprint is small. Ecologically speaking, we're dealing with a device that barely leaves any tracks. When it's on, it uses only its six watt built-in power supply, and when you're not using it, it consumes less power than a nightlight. And, because it uses so little power, it doesn't need an oscillating device to move air and keep it cool, so the Apple TV remains quiet while running. Who wouldn't be a fan of that?
Made for each other
Unless you've been stuck in some Podunk town for the last decade, you've probably heard of a few devices that Apple has released: the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. More than just for on-the-go, you can also turn these devices into control devices for your Apple TV. Use the easy touch screen capability and familiar interface to scroll through movie and TV rentals, browse the Netflix library, and even browse your own media. Once you've found what you want, you can play, pause, fast forward, and rewind to your hearts content. Plus, with Airplay functionality (coming soon), you can start watching, listening, or viewing on your mobile device, and with just the tap of a few buttons, transfer the content to your AppleTV and stream it from the iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch without losing your place.

I really loved the interface on the Apple TV. It was very stylish and user friendly. I thought it did a good job with Netflix. I had a couple of problems with the Apple TV. First, it took a very long time to load pictures. Once they were loaded it was great, but it took to long when I wanted to show my friends photos from recent trips. Also, I have lots of videos Ive saved. The Apple TV only read one format which isnt a format I have previously used. I dont want to have to re-encode in a new format, so Im going to try something that can handle a better variety of formats. Also, there is no USB port, so you cant plug in a USB flash drive or external hard drive which is my primary location for my photos and music. I like the items that the Apple TV offers and if I had an iPhone or iPod I might be satisfied, but Im looking for something that can handle more formats.

The Apple TV is an excellent product! The set up was simple and fast. The graphic user interface is superior to other compnents I own. The netflix connection is easy to maneuver and the home sharing feature allows me to transfer music, photos, etc. from my mac computer. Very versatile and well worth the modest purchase price. Highly recommend this great Apple product.

The Apple TV came very well packaged, but it is an Apple product, so what else would you expect. On the plus side of the equation it is nice and compact, attractive, and fairly intuitive to operateof course, its an Apple. The picture quality it provided on my HD LCD 47 TV was very good. The only negative that I would give it is that I would prefer that all of the internet component providers would give the owners open access to the internet so that as new content and sites become available we can link to them.

Bought the Apple TV mainly for streaming Netflix and it works great. The airplay feature also works great with my iphone, ipad, and MacBook Pro. The remote is little jenky so I recommend using the remote app for the iphone, it makes typing so much easier.

I decided to give this a try since I basically only use itunes for music, digital movie copy redemptions and recently tv shows. If you have a nice itunes library or do not mind starting one, then you will love apple tv. I love it because its easy to set-up, just press a button, turn onoff and access your library. The one downfall may be if you cannot keep a computer running itunes while using apple tv, because you do need to have it running in order to access your computer itunes library. I have not yet tried the ipod apple tv remote to see if you can just use that to access your itunes library without the computer running itunes, but for me its not a big enough deal to be a con. I love that I can listen to music, switch to watching a movie or a tv show instantly, no loading of menus or long wait times. If you are looking for live tv, probably not the best choice, but you can rent available shows off itunes with the computer or the apple tv directly, except you have larger selections if you go through your computer I noticed rather than the apple tv. I find this easier to deal with than all my other devices blu ray player, ps3, xbox 360 because as much as I love them, there is the typical loading times of movies with previews and warnings, etc when you have a young child you will understand why instant viewing is important sometimes and i constantly have to switch out if I want something in HD my blu-ray discs I have to shut off xbox and switch to PS3, but if its on apple tv, its much easier. The main problem I see would be no built-in harddrive, but since most of what you buy is from the computer, you can easily buy an external harddrive and set up itunes to access files from that permanently and that problem is solved, in fact I think that is far better than apple tv having a built in harddrive because it would never be big enough and it would only add a lot to the price. I have had zero problems with streaming and I have bought everything in HD, very large files, and they look amazing streaming from my laptop itunes. Ive found for my situation, this has been beyond handy, ive been able to listen to music more often and watch more tv shows then I have been able to since the shows are there for good once you buy them, for me apple tv is like tivo and all my devices combined and it has made my life easier, assuming like I said in the title, you are a primary itunes user and will be in the foreseeable future, otherwise a different device might be better. I am very happy I gave apple tv a chance.

Overall I love Apple TV. I love the integration with my iTunes environment, I love the simplicity and ease of use, and I love the simple, clean design and minimal power use ~6w. What I dont love is that there are a few important services missing Pandora, for example and that Ive had some connectivity hiccups with my iTunes library. Its a bit of a bummer that iTunes needs to be open at all on the host computer, and occasionally I cant see my library at all, which must be solved by quitting and relaunching iTunes, unplugging Apple TV, or both.

I have Internet built in to my tv and I never use it because my Apple tv is so much better. Also I really like that it can connect wirelessly to my computer and access my iTunes account to watch movies, tv shows, and listen to my music instantly. I also enjoy looking at my photos as a screen saver while my music is playing. I have an iPad that I downloaded the free app to use it as a remote control for apple tv which makes searching much easier because the keypad comes up to type with instead of selecting each letter individually. This is a great product!

Bought the new apple TV maybe a month ago. This product is worth the price if you watch netflix or itunes videos. This was my first buy of any apple TV and I use it almost every day, I can play music through my TV speakers or watch youtube videos. The product is easy to use with simple instructions that anyone could figure out. It doesn't come with the HDMI cord needed to connect to the TV, so make sure you buy one when you purchase or you already own one. I have only two problems with this product, 1 The remote is way tiny and I have a tendency to lose it and 2 I wish there was internet browsing so I could make use of all the other video resources on the internet.
