Careful what you wish for . . .
It pays to be selective with digital readers, considering sourcing options for downloadable reading material can be limited with certain brands. Those that source book titles from a single library of titles leave few options &mdash particularly when copyright infringements prevent downloading certain books or preclude keeping the ones you've already purchased. By supporting both industry standard formats &mdash ePub and PDF &mdash you'll easily access books at eBookstore.sony.com, check out books from public libraries, cull public domain titles, and locate books from online sharing sites, and personal publishers. Additionally your Reader Touch Edition supports Adobe PDF5, Microsoft Word, BBeB Book and other text file formats, as well as ePub / ACS4 and connection with Adobe Digital Editions 4.
350 titles at your fingertips — literally!
Your vacation to Europe means hours in the air to catch up on the books you've been threatening to read for years. Worried your Touch Edition won't go the distance across the miles without constant charging? It'll take more than a Trans-Atlantic flight to topple this tome. Try 7,500 quick page turns — navigable either with your finger, with the included stylus, or by advance buttons on either side of the reader. With 512MB of onboard memory, the PRS600 will stock up to 350 of your all-time favorite books so you can reread old classics, or catch the latest bestsellers. Skip between reads or focus on one, whether it's Nicholas Sparks' "The Notebook" or Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five," on-the-fly reading has never been as fun.
Paper-like display for easy-on-the-eyes readability
The Sony PRS600 intuitive touchscreen reader features a large 6" screen with Vizplex technology not only makes the reading experience more like a book and less like a digital device, it allows you to manage your collection, make notes and create texts in a single touch. A high-contrast ratio means its paper-like display delivers amazing book-print quality easily read in sunlight, or low light, without eye-strain. Five adjustable font sizes on the PRS600 means your Reader Touch Edition texts can be re-sized to improve readability. Lightweight design means you can slip your digital touchscreen reader into a purse, or jacket pocket. Easy left and right side-button navigation enhances touchscreen capability.
Library management on your own terms
Compatible with PC or Mac, intuitive eBook Library 3.0 software makes it easy to download eBooks, manage your collection and transfer titles to your PRS600 Touch Edition. A simple USB 2.0 cable transfers eBooks and charges your reader. Your own internet connection means you won't ever be limited in sourcing reading material, and you choose which companies get your business. And if you ever lack for the definition of a word in some scientific journal, the built-in Oxford American English dictionary can help!

If you dont have an ereader the Sony touch eddition is great.

I love it because of the huge screen. The nook is bigger because of the color screen on the bottom. The kindle is big because of the keyboard on the bottom. I carry it around everywhere i go. For the comment that the charge doesnt hold, I recently found out from a friend that I havent been shutting down. Instead, Ive been putting it in standby mode. So when you shut down, youre supposed to hold the button longer before letting go. Theres an option to shut down and confirm with yes. Ive been putting it on standby all day and the battery would drain. It only tells you this in the manual that i didnt read.hahaha I only wish for this price it came with wireless!

Sony reader is a pretty good e-reader if you are reading novels/entertainment books, the reader is small and comfortable, but the small screen can not display too much of the page if you have a larger font enabled. So three page on the reader 1 real book page. Overall i am pretty satisfied with the product.

This is a great device. I love how you can check out books from your library, unlike the Kindle, where you must buy books. The touch screen works great, except you have to do a fingernail scrape to change pages very hard to swipe finger across screen. I had recently bought a Kindle, and was disappointed to find that you had to buy books to be able to read them. Every once in a while, you might run into a small technical glitch, such as a screen freeze, but its very easy to deal with just press the reset button and slide the power switch. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product and how it operates. If youre looking to save money, the Sony PRS600 is definitely great for you.

I had been looking at various eReaders for a months before finally settling on the Sony Touch Edition over the Sony Daily Edition & Pocket Edition, Amazon Kindle 2, and the B&N Nook. I chose it after using a friends Kindle and another friends PRS-505 a larger, older Sony Pocket Edition. I decided I did not want or need the wireless service provided by both the Nook and Kindle to prevent privacy issues, to avoid impulse buys of books, and because I couldnt really think of a situation where I would need a book so badly I could not wait to get back to my computer.
PROS
After using the others, I was really happy with the size of device compared to the size of the screen and the interface. Having a touch screen really allowed Sony to improve the interface of the device and create something thats very easy to use. Additionally, the e-ink screen is quite nice and refreshes quite quickly for e-ink allowing for smooth interaction with the device.
The built in dictionary works quite well, but it requires a very precise touch with smaller font sizes sometimes meaning a fingernail wont do it and you need the stylus.
The touch screen is resistive like most GPS systems not capacitive like an iPhone and I see this as a positive. It allows you to lightly rest your hand finger on the screen without interacting with the device unintentionally.
Great format support. The device has been able to display any format Ive thrown at it with acceptable results. Sometimes the font resizing doesnt seem scaled quite right going from small to medium is too big of a jump, but I almost always use small.
Great design. The device is very solidly built and the perfect size. No bigger or smaller than it should be and it looks beautiful.
CONS
The screen isnt big enough to really use for full 8.5x11 PDFs and maintain formatting. Because of this, most textbooks are also not formatted well enough for an experience comparable to the physical book. However, the screen is the perfect size for novels and reading without a large number of graphics in the reading.
The Reader Store, while it has pretty much all the ebooks Amazon does have, sometimes costs more than the Kindle versions. While almost all of them are the exact same price, its disappointing to see the ebook cheaper on Amazon.
The screen, since it is touch, is more reflective than other eReaders. Its not nearly as bad as the Sony PRS-700 from a year or more back, but its definitely not as glare free as the Nook, Kindle or Sony Pocket Edition. However, I was happy to give that up for the touch interface and sleeker design.
OVERALL
I would recommend the Sony Touch eReader to anyone that does not value the wireless services and who would like the touch interface that the device offers.

Great E-reader. Did research online comparing the Kindle to this product and this one came out on top. Purchased one for my wife for Christmas, after I had hers all setup, I thought, WOW, this is cool. So I purchased one for myself too. I would purchase an AC adapter not included from Sony which allows you to read while the unit is charging. Sony furnishes a USB cord to charge while plugged into your computer, however, the reader is not operational in this mode.

I have used the E-reader for two months now and I am very happy with it. I have purchased a couple books, gotten free books from Google, and download ebooks from the local library. All of the communications worked great.
One thing i really love is the ability to magnify print size. I dont like books with small print so the E-reader is much better than reading printed books because of the ability to increase print size.
One time it locked up and I couldnt even turn it off. After pushing the reset a couple times it was possible to finally turn it off. I was on an airplane at the time and didnt use it for the rest of the flight. When I turned it on in the airport it worked okay and has ever since.
Currently I do some reading with the E-reader every day and enjoy it very much.
