Swarming The Skies
The pod and boom style of park flyers has become increasing popular in the past few years and Hot Bodies Skywave joins the pack. It features a conventional rudder and elevator as opposed to the V-tail design. The advantage of the conventional construction is that the plane will turn easier and be easier to control. When a plane is flying nose up and begins to lose flight speed the controls become less effective and so you have to input more left or right to get the plane to turn, well when the nose drops (plane stalls) it picks up speed and suddenly that extra input that you've been sending to the plane puts the plane in a spiral dive, not a good thing when you're just getting started in this wonderful world of radio controlled airplanes. The Skywave with it's conventional rudder and elevator greatly reduces the chances of the plane spiraling out of control.
Quickly Now
The Skywave is designed to get you in the air fast. In less than a 1/2 hour you can be ready to head over to your favorite park or ball field and put it through the paces. With the included landing gear you can take off from any hard surface, but you may find that it is just easier to give it a toss with a hand launch. For the first couple of flights you may find that flying with a buddy may be helpful, let them launch the plane for you, while you concentrate on flying. Landings are predictable, set up your approach with the plane flying into the wind, cut the power and let it glide in, a little up elevator just before it touches down and you can get it to set down in the grass or settle gently on any hard surface.
This Is Different
"Hey, this transmitter is different than my friend's transmitter." The right stick on the Skywave transmitter controls the elevator while the left stick controls the rudder (on most 3 channel planes both functions are on the right hand stick). With the rudder control and elevator control seperated there is a reduced chance of "accidentally" giving it up or down inputs when all you really want to do is have the plane turn right or left. When you move up to 4 channel planes they are set-up the same with elevator on the right stick and rudder on the left stick (the 4th channel is the ailerons on the right stick). One advantage of the Skywave is that it gets you used to the idea of being able to control the rudder with your left hand which will be helpful when you move up to a 4 channel airplane.
Seperate Components
Another advantage of the Hot Bodies Skywave is that it uses conventional electronics. Many of the "pod and boom" style of planes use a single control board for the servo, receiver and speed control functions. The Skywave uses seperate components which will allow you to use those components in another plane at some point in time in the future. With competitors planes if something goes out on the board or the plane is damaged beyond repair the components are not reuseable. Just one more reason that the Skywave is an exceptional value.
Why Two?
You may have noticed that the Skywave comes with 2 different chargers and be asking yourself why? One is a DC (12 volt) charger and allows you to charge from the cigarette lighter in your car. The other charger is AC (plugs in the wall) and allows you to recharge your battery at home. This adds a great deal of convenience and flexability to your charging needs so you can be ready to fly anytime, anywhere.
